- Hey pen friends! Leila (IG: @nibs_out) here! Laura (IG: @1003inks) and I have quite the episode for you! In this episode, we talk about our brand obsessions and why we're absolutely obsessed with them (featuring Pelikan, Benu, Leonardo, and Pilot). Laura takes a deep dive into her Pilot wish list! She also interviews Gary Lange, brand manager of Pelikan North America, and they go over some of her favorite pens! I get stuck in a fantasy involving a Benu exclusive (foreshadowing much?). And we've got a silly segment that is sure to get your body moving!
We've got some big announcements ahead! Stay tuned!
We LOVE receiving mail! Write us a postcard or letter and tell us what pen and ink you're using! Our address is:

THANK YOU FOR YOUR GORGEOUS LETTER! 😍
Thank YOU!!! Your beautiful letter blew our minds! 😍🤩
@@LauraPetixPENBOUTIQUE I'm so glad you enjoyed it it always makes me happy when I can use my talents to make someone's day 😀
It's so good to see you happy
Attention Leena! The Boutique Dancers qualify for Broadway! Truly talented--so fun to watch--no other pen-related video on You Tube can match them!👏👯
I'll send your kind words up the ladder!
💗💗💗
Gotta love the cool shades, Leila! Necklace as well. And Laura, Congrats..such a nice 200 w/ a great ink color match-up! Thank you both for your strong efforts in bringing us Penjoyment!
You are too kind! Thank you!!
Thank you so much for your kind comment. ❤ I adore my beautiful M200.
You guys are THE BEST! As soon as you showed that Pelican Twist, Leila, I quickly bought it (and that pretty new TWSBI caffe latte ;). It’s so pretty! And LOVE the silly segment-you’re all 10/10!! ❤
You are so kind! I'm glad we could spark joy (and penable you)!
Aw! This is so cool! Thank you for telling us!
Clever, clever, clever specialty dancing! I nominate the Pen Boutique Dancers for first place in the Talent Pen Show!
Hahaha! Recruiting the girls was the best! Maybe we can talk them into appearing again!
@@LeilaYounesPENBOUTIQUE A must-do! :)
That was a most enjoyable episode. The interview with Gary with all the beautiful Pelikans was just lovely, and I think the "Leila designs Benu dream sequence" qualifies as an additional silly segment. And speaking of the silly segment, y'all got some SERIOUS MOVES, even Laura busted a few as a judge in the background. P.S. I was late to the party to comment on the last episode, in case you didn't read it...
Thank you so much! I love reading your comments. ❤ I didn't see one on our most recent episode, though! Are you sure it posted? I loved being able to do the interview with Gary. (Okay, that was probably pretty obvious.). As for Leila's dream sequence... maybe it's not so silly after all??! Stay tuned... 😃
@@LauraPetixPENBOUTIQUE I went back to episode 13, and sure enough my comment didn't post! Grr! Probably forgot to hit the button. I have done my best to recreate it for your enjoyment.
Leila's dream sequence "not so silly after all??!" -- ooooh! PLOT TWIST!
I finally got to see your comment from episode 13! Thank you!
Lovely episode, ladies. I paused it to put a set of the apatite in my cart, after having bought two Pelikans at the Chicago show (which was terrific, btw). Leila, I really like your hair like that. Laura, excellent interview skills! Gary is so cool.
Thank you! I agree about Leila's hair looking pretty, and also about Gary being cool. I'm so happy you're going to get the Apatite! Yay!!! I'm glad you got to meet Gary at the Chicago show! I wish I could see your flock. 💗
@@LauraPetixPENBOUTIQUE Maybe I'll attend another pen show in the future and bring the rabble for you to see. It's complicated, of course: Hire a dog sitter, find a chicken sitter, get plane tickets, park at the airport, buy show tickets, get lodging and food and then, best of all, see penfriends and buy stuff!
Glad y’all enjoyed hearing from Western Washington! (Good eye on the stamp ID, Lelia. The washi tape is for the cherry blossoms that are another cultural nod to this area.) Hearing the letter, I realized folks may not know that the Husky Clipper I mentioned is the name of the shell the University of Washington team rowed to win gold at the 1936 Olympics.
How cool is that? I had no idea! Thanks for the history lesson!
Thank you again for your beautiful letter, Stacy!
For the dances, maybe the Schaeffer Pop or the Diplomat Aero(plane)? 😉
That is SUCH a cute idea!! I love it!! Maybe this could be a recurring segment... hmm...
Oooo, those are good ones!!
I just emailed you guys about why there isn't anymore Tanzanite right now!! That's crazy haha
Ha! That's crazy! Hopefully you can hold out for a few months! Tanzanite is such a perfect writer in my Pelikans.
@@LauraPetixPENBOUTIQUE Since you are like me and adore anything Pelikan haha I have the Pelikan 4001 Blue-black but find it to be very very dry of an ink. Is Tanzanite more wet? I am hoping so!
@@williamcatalano1762 Yes, Tanzanite is a little wetter, but both are fairly dry as inks go, because Pelikan pens are very wet, so they prefer drier inks. (Yay, Pelikan!!)
@LauraPetixPENBOUTIQUE Thanks for the response, Laura! 🙂
Nice
Fantastic show! I’d love to hear more about the heavy pens (Monteverde regatta and ritma weight) and also about what inks flow well with particular pens and what to not pair.
I can definitely talk about the Ritma and Regatta weights. That's a fun episode idea. I'll think on this!
@@LeilaYounesPENBOUTIQUEI’m such a heavy pen geek. I love my Leonardo, but those are light for my taste. (My purchase history is heavy on heavy pens, and I often give away the ones that are too light, like the Pelican M205.)
@@merijohnston8521 One of our co-wokers, Fana, is REALLY into heavy pens! We may be able to pick her brain for ideas on this... Her dream pens are S.T. Duponts, but she always has lots of opinions on all things HEAVY, at a lot of different price points. I actually considered writing a blog article about this, and I may still do it.
@@LauraPetixPENBOUTIQUE now I’m going to have to hop over and look at STDuPonts. Thank you and “curses” for more temptation! Please let Fana know she’s got a kindred spirit.
Cool
Super
The world ❤ you.

I love the Pelikan inks, but I don't keep their pens around for a few reasons. The cartridge connector tends to be smaller in diameter and shorter on their cartridge pens. You have to install two short cartridges or screw the barrel on to make sure the cartridge or converter stay in. You also need to use a new converter and dedicate it to the pen you are fitting it in. On the piston fillers, they use a snap in piston assembly on the majority of their pens except for the M800 and M1000. I also don't like the trim ring on the grip section of the Souverän models. I've seen it get corroded before even though it's uncommon. TWSBI uses a screw in piston unit on their pens. They also have the Eco with no trim ring on the grip section. I think most of my piston fillers are Auroras though and they use a screw in piston and have no trim ring on the grip section. As far as I'm aware, Pelikan is one of the only ones with a snap in piston mechanism. I had loose ones on some of mine. I've also had the grip section fall off the barrel. All of these issues were fixed, but when I can have other options, it's a hard sell for me. The M200 series has also basically tripled in price since I started with these pens. I was still a little girl back then, and I paid my birthday money for it. My first one was $50 brand new, and that was the going rate for them then. Green transparent, fine steel nib. They were considered a great value at the time. The price hasn't tracked with inflation. If I can get the TWSBI Eco for a good price, then it's a hard sell for me. I have a collection of Ecos and have been collecting them since they came out. I've been collecting Auroras (both Optima and 88) far longer, but I do use both my Ecos and Auroras very regularly.
The Eco and the Optima are solid pens. I love my small hoard of them.
❤❤
I would prepare a Indian dance for my Montblanc writer's edition Kipling 😃
