I have an old VHS copy of this, and it's where I first learned of the Big Boys, though I already knew about the challengers by then after seeing videos of 3985, and I've seen two Big Boys so far, 4006 in 2011 and 4012 in 2022.
Visted the National Railroad Museum in Green Bay WI as a kid. That started my fasination with these mecanical wonders. The production date reminds me of the vintage acedemic movies shown in class. Great stuff, thanks for posting.
Interesting/informative/entertaining. Excellent photography job enables viewers to better understand what the orator is describing. Remember the " Singing Breakman " 🎸🎶 Jimmie Rogers-?🤔. A genuine breakman till changing careers to a singing entertainer ( 1926 thru 1933 ) most memorable song " Break Man's Blues ". Amazing how much maintenance goes into a " Big Boy ". 😲. Only an experienced loyal crew could keep those locomotive Giants working properly-!!!😉.
I had this on VHS. Funnily enough, I was looking for the logo that appears at the beginning because I could not remember the production company that owned it.
I can't imagine what it was like to ride in the cab in those days dirty coal ash everywhere, noise so loud have to yell to one another, the heat in the summer must have been terrible. Having to lean out the cab all the time to watch what was ahead make sure the track was clear and speeds were set. Tough job must have been hard work.
14:45 Narrator: With Big Boy's Size, Two Stacks were needed, Hoods to deflect the smoke confirm it a clear view from the cab often were used by the Engineer. Me: Speaking of the hoods, I've got good news for the Big Boy fans, As of July of 2021 before the Break-in Run to Denver, CO. 4014 has it's Stack Hoods Back!
According to the Big Boys and their heavy freight trains, what does “Every engine has to pull its own freight train,” mean? Why did the Big Boys chant “I think I can,” and “I thought I could,” over Wyoming Sherman Hill? What do you call the modern North American long sturdy streamlined diesel electric freight train at 41:22?
I used to have this on VHS 📼 back in the day! 😊
me too.
I just love to watch Union Pacific Railroad history

This was my childhood
It be nice since the 4014 Big Boy was rebuilt for tours today, I would love to ride a train being pulled by it.

Union Pacific is the only rail road that run correctly.
At least it ride the rails again not on coal but fuel oil.
3985 1243 5511 and 4005 all are preserved
At least it rides the rails again
