It really is, when I was trying to beat all the Grand Prix cups in single player, I was literally on the edge of my seat in case the NPC in last place lightning bolted everyone or threw a blue shell to the front
As a kid, this track scared the shit outta me. This course is fairly easy to win by massive margins, so being all alone with the unsettling backdrop, the creepy ass music, and the endless lava...terrifying for an 7-10 year old in 2008!
^^^ To me Banshee Boardwalk was creepy as a kid, sure, but it was nowhere near as terrifying to me as Bowser's Castle from MK64. GCN Bowser's Castle I never found creepy, just thought it was a really cool Bowser's Castle track. The music for N64 Bowser's Castle still lowkey sounds like something from hell lol...
The original course is my favorite track in the Mario Kart series, yet I think Wii made it even better. It’s more accessible to less experienced players than the original was, the lava geysers add a brand new obstacle, and the updated visuals and sound effects make the track feel more haunting than it was before. My only complaint is that Marty (the thwomp in the jail cell) isn’t green anymore.
For some reason, ending a retro selection/a whole game with a track like this feels way more ominous than putting it before Rainbow Road, or at the end of the Star Cup.
I still think this is the best Bowser's Castle imo. Really fits its placing in Mario Kart Wii (the final track of the last cup). If you're doing all 32 races at once like me and my brother used to do a lot back then, it really fit for this to be the finale of the whole thing.
That's what I thought, I actually think it may be the longest course of the game but don't quote me on that, I think rainbow road might par with this one
This track is such an underrated gem and I LOVE it! For 5 main reasons: 1. I generally just love the track design. 2. This is honestly one of the most nostalgic tracks in the whole game for me, which always makes me excited to play it! 3. I absolutely LOVE the creepy music in it! 4. I also really like how nice and long it is too! 5. I also just love how the backdrop is literally just an endless sea of lava. So yea! This track is incredible, and I’m VERY glad they brought it back for this game! 👍
This track just nails the “ominous, eerie and empty” atmosphere perfectly. There’s nothing on the horizon, just you in this castle. It has no living quarters or anything that makes it feel like it has a purpose, so you just wonder why it was built and why it is so unwelcoming.
(Thwomps fall to the ground blocking Bowser.) Bowser: Hey blockheads, pull another fast one on me and I'm cutting your pay! Thwomp 1: Hey Smash, how much exactly is the boss paying us? Thwomp 2: Oh Pounder, you're as dumb as a box of rocks! The boss doesn't pay us anything! We don't even have limbs! Thwomp 1: I knew that.
Yea I loved Bowsers theme in this age of Nintendo made me think of Bowser as a dark lord, now Bowser reminds me of eggman with his recent jazzy themes :/
This level was so creepy when I was younger. Just with the music and the length of the course and everything especially when playing it solo. Super lonely, long, creepy, and empty
I always wondered why this track is so unsettling. i mean, is what you say: lonely,empty... But all bowser castles are, but this one is very intimidating and i dont know why (sorry for my bad english 😅)
This bowser castle is close to be my number one pick. Soundtrack is perfect and the inside castle makes you feel like your in a real castle. Edit: Glad this map doesn't feel like a race track. Well kinda does, but still.
Of note is that this is the only course in the Lightning Cup of Mario Kart Wii that didn't return in Tour or 8 Deluxe. The other three courses reappeared one by one in those games
@@spytf2-pb3yo Agreed. Other than the big budget glow-up (which wasn't even MK8's idea, the course was already like that in Tour), SNES Bowser Castle 3 is still a very basic course
The perfect track to end Wii’s retro cups, even though it’s not a rainbow road. It’s just so damn eerie. The difficulty is appropriate as well. It just gives you that intense feel necessary for the final track.
I got really nervous when I saw that thwomp in the jail cell for the first time, cos I thought it was gonna come out in the third lap and then just go batsh*t crazy everywhere XD
Brooo if this returns in mk8 deluxe booster course then Nintendo HAS to put this in, it would be sooo nice to see the Gates lower in lap 2 and in lap 3 the thwomp finally wakes up after you reach the section where it is and it just rushes through the hallway to the end and rushes back to the gates and repeats with 280km/h
Other than the Wii and 8 versions, this is easily my favorite version of Bowser's Castle! I already really love this version on the N64 but the Wii's tricks and updated graphics make this version of the course even better!
I will always have such a soft spot for this track. I loved how intimidating the atmosphere was when I was 8 playing it for the first time, and I felt like such a god for conquering it and getting 1st.

We have Mushroom Gorge now, and GBA Bowser's Castle 3 and Ghost Valley 2 would be easy to implement due to being vatiants of courses already in Mario Kart Tour. In fact, Nintendo accidentally leaked Ghost Valley 2 themselves in the Halloween Tour (2020).
