Small point of interest. I live in Mockbeggar Drive, Wallasey, just a few hundred yards from where the Warren station was located. The original size of the housing development I now live in (completed in 1972/73) was intended to be much larger, and I am told that a new station, between Grove Road and New Brighton stations, was earmarked to have been opened in the early 1970's to service the needs of the residents. But the builders went bankrupt and the final development is a fraction of the originally intended size. So that additional station (or the reopening of the Warren station) was scrapped.
My dad was born grew up and used to live in walkasey/Torrington Road and told me he would look out and see the multi tracked railways up behind Bidston Dock.
There are proposals (talk in high places) of introducing battery trains on the Wrexham to Bidston line (Borderland Line - 27 miles long), so the trains can enter the underground stations of Liverpool and Birkenhead. The service would then be a part of Merseyrail. This has been muted for decades by fully electrifying the line. Also extend Merseyrail from Ellesmere Port to the Helsby junction, with a Helsby Liverpool service. If these two extension happened, it would make sense to reintroduce the Hooton to West Kirby Line with a branch into the Bidston-Wrexham line. Then a more metro like service would be available. The reason the Hooton-West Kirkby line has not be considered is that the areas it runs through have high car ownership. As the population of the country rises (45 million in WW2 to 68 million today) they need to think ahead.
@@TheWirralChannel The new Mersyrail trains, Class 777, can run a mixture of 3rd rail, overhead wires and batteries. They may have jumped the gun buying the old D class London Underground stock. I doubt Merseyrail would be interested in taking into their fleet a different type of train after standardising on a purpose made train, built just for them. Swiss Stadler have a new state-of-the-art maintenance depot at Kirkdale, owned by them - also capable of maintaining non-Merseyrail Stadler trains. I doubt they would be interested in maintaining non-Stadler trains there. If the D class LU trains were bought, then they were transferred to Merseyrail in the near future, where would they be stabled and maintained? Not in Liverpool or Birkenhead for sure. Is this delay to see the outcome of the battery train trials? mmm. If successful, the new class 777s may be used on the Borderlands Line handed over to Merseyrail. Merseyrail do have an option to buy more Stadlers.
@@TheWirralChannel *Geographically* the Wirral peninsular ends with a line from Connahs Quay to Sutton Weaver - the end points of each estuary, with a straight line between the two them. _Arguably_ the line could be further up the River Dee to the point its is navigable. Which is around Saughall, which would mean the northern suburbs of Chester are in the Wirral peninsular.

It would be nice if you could find photographs of the stations when they were in their original glory.
