Thank you so much. Happy family memories thinking back to my childhood. After my father passed, I was packing up his things and came across a Benson car window sticker.
Just discovered this video today and brought back good memories. Went there in the late 1970s and early 1980s with my family. I remember that Gorilla too. Also the Elephant.
Thank you for this tour. I remember the commercials but I did not visit the park back then. Living in Berlin, and North Conway around that time. Was unaware of the 911 Memorial, it’s beautiful. White Castle, by the way, next to Big Boys, was our favorite hamburger joint growing up in Michigan. The T-shirt was a surprise! 😊
I just came across this video from an article that was shown to me in my little Google Recs section, and I am so captured by it. Benson's is one of me and my brother's favorite places to go on walks together, and even though we both knew it was once a zoo, I've never actually taken in the history of the place, so this was such a cool thing to learn more about! Thank you for the video, Jeff and Not-Jeff and Not-Jeff-Jr 😊
I went today to Benson with my granddaughter aaliyah and grandson lennix. Benson park looks beautiful and brought back so many memories. I really enjoyed seeing the gorilla cage. I remembered him always. Thank for keeping what's left of Benson park alive ❤
My parents would take me to Benson’s during the 1960’s, when I was little. I remember riding an elephant there named Betsy. My father had ridden the same elephant with his grandfather during the 1930’s. In its day, Benson’s was a wonderful place for kids. I remember the old woman who lived in the shoe, the gorilla and the big cats. It was wonderful! Such memories! Thank you for this video!
Benson's was an annual outing for my cousin and me for most of our childhood. The picture of the elephant barn reminded me of a sign that was located in the entrance. The sign more or less said (I'm 73, so memory may fail me) beware of shiny objects when visiting this exhibit. I was in my stroller, and an elephant grabbed the handle with its trunk. A good tug of war started between the elephant and my mother, with the keeper telling my mother to leave the elephant alone. I survived, and this sign was their the next we visited.
My brother (RIP) and I grew up on Old Coach Road, which is across the street from Benson. Our family would visit Benson Animals during the Summers of the 1980s. Nice to hear the town has made the place into an actual park.
Brings back child hood memories. I'm 55 and as a small child, my mom would bring us three children to Bensons wild animal farm.
