Retired dental assistant here. I've only seen one patient come into our practice who was in a state similar to this. Absolutely horrific, and the patient was in so much discomfort. Even after the procedure - which was very necessary as the patient's life was in danger - it was sad, because with the calculus (tartar) gone, the patient's teeth were just flapping in the breeze. @@dee23150 Very good question. The patient wanted the minimum done to resolve the serious infection in the mouth because there was a risk of the patient going septic (having the infection spread from the mouth to the rest of the body). We felt terrible letting the patient leave the office in that condition, but that's what the patient insisted on.
@@mistiffiecation There are more factors than just hygiene, though that's a big one. There are also genetics. Everyone has slightly different chemicals in their saliva, and that means some people are more prone to forming calculus (tartar) quickly. The patient I mentioned above and one other who was almost as bad were both just in their mid-twenties. There were serious hygiene issues and neither had ever been to a dentist before, but to have such an enormous amount of calculus at that age, there had to have been genetic factors as well. So a person can have teeth like this as early as their 20s, but they would need to have no dental care, minimal hygiene (there are a lot of people who do nothing more than rub toothpaste on their teeth with a finger - seriously), and saliva that calcifies quickly. People who aren't dealing with a genetic predisposition to form calculus quickly may never get to this state so long as they practice acceptable dental hygiene and visit a dentist regularly. People who do form calculus quickly can still keep their teeth and not get into a dire situation like this as long as they are rigourous with their hygiene - brush AND floss everyday - and visit a dentist for a check-up and cleaning every 6 months.
Answer me this please, because I’m confused. If this person has such horrible dental hygiene then why are his teeth and gums in great condition. Look closely, those teeth look very healthy. No bad spots or dark areas and his gums are nice. But then there’s this epic stuff on his teeth that’s supposed to be plaque. I’ve seen a hundred videos on here with people having the most rotten, poorly taken care of teeth you’ve ever seen and they don’t have plaque build up at all. I don’t see how you can not brush your teeth and have zero cavities, healthy gums but with epic levels of plaque build up. I wonder if some of these videos are fake, where they put something on their teeth to look like build up. I mean look at how perfectly clean those teeth are
@@memphiswaspmafia Ooh this is such a good question! I apologize in advance because I get real excited about these kinds of questions lol. Tldr; cavities and tartar buildup/periodontal disease are two different disease processes caused by different things (like type of bacteria). You can have one without the other, you can have both, or if you’re really lucky you have neither. I guarantee you these videos are not fake, as crazy as they are! The longer answer! There’s a couple main facts to know to understand this: 1- Plaque is mostly bacteria and food debris. It’s soft and sticky and it hardens into tartar over time. 2- Tartar is mineralized plaque build up on the teeth, like a hard water stain. The minerals come mostly from your saliva. 3- Our teeth are strengthened by minerals. 4- Cavities form when bacteria turn food we eat into acid, which then pulls minerals out of our teeth. Some people have more minerals in their saliva. This leads to more buildup and sometimes fewer cavities because the minerals are strengthening the teeth. This isn’t always the case though. Some people have more acidic saliva which causes more cavities. Different bacteria cause cavities than cause gum and periodontal disease and not everybody has the same exact bacteria in the mouths. Cavity risk can also be affected by diet. You’re right that the teeth themselves do look in pretty good condition. However, the gums are not. The redness, swelling, bleeding and the loose/floppy appearance all tells us that there’s a major infection going on in the areas of tartar buildup. Probably more important though is the bone that’s actually holding the teeth in place. This level of infection causes the bone to basically disintegrate around the teeth, which is why you can see some of them moving as the doctor is cleaning. In this case the person has so much bone loss and so much periodontal disease that even though the tooth on its own is healthy, they’re probably gonna lose some of them because of the condition of the bone, there just isn’t enough to hold them in place.
I thought that too but figured maybe the plaque somehow protected the teeth. This gums are not healthy, though. The swelling, bleeding, and receding says a LOT.

My housemates teeth are like this, front and back. His hygiene is shocking. Ngl but I've never gotten a dental cleaning but it's really not that hard to keep your teeth clean by brushing and flossing. Avoiding sugar helps a lot too which is probably why his teeth are so bad as he only drinks soft drink and eats junk food
Applaud to all dentists because they have strong stomach, patient and faith because i can tell the smell from my flossing so imagine after taking off those tarter.
It can be horrendous indeed....and sadly for the patient can be extremely painful especially when the gingiva recedes so much due to the tartar stacking against the tooth and just increasing like a huge cyst that just increases.....I would not be too surprised if that patient had issues while he ate food.
Dental assistant, but yes, an amazing job!! Hygienists don’t assist the dentist, they work independently or occasionally with the help of a dental assistant.
I think dental hygienist completed that cleaning actually. Dentist usually do not do cleaning ( at least in USA) . By the way the procedure is not completed yet. This patient need at least one more - fine scale.
This is like a car accident. You don’t want to look but you can’t help but to keep on watching. I’m just bewildered how people can let their teeth go like that! I’m watching from Southern California USA
You would expect that the teeth would have been in very bad condition but it was the gums that took the beating. If those gums cannot be healed, all of those teeth will be gone!
I'm assuming with time they will shrink and form around the teeth. just think when you get a tooth oulled eventually your gums cover the hole, almost like it was never there.
This dentist was quite gentle, given he had huge chunks to remove, so, bravo! Well done! Dentists are unsung hero’s, in my book! They spend years hunched over, doing their work in a tiny place. Last thing - I feel so sorry for this young man, he’s going to really hurt, the next day! He’s so brave having it done, and am tickled they could afford to get this done!! Whew, dentist are SO expensive! Maybe it’s why this boy waited for so long to have it done!!
My husband had tarter almost this bad & he was in his 30's at the time. He is now 60yrs & still doesn't take care of his teeth. He does brush them once a day in the morning but that's it. I wore braces for 7yrs as a child & I take very good care of my teeth. My husband can't understand why I won't kiss him anylonger. His teeth make me sick!!! Once some tarter broke off the back of one of his lower front teeth & he thought his tooth had broken. I told him it was tarter but he wouldn't believe me. He did go to the dentist finally. The dentist cleaned his teeth it was the first time they had EVER been cleaned (I blame his parents), he cried & wined about the pain afterwards for 3-4 days. I told him that if he would just go to the dentist twice a year he wouldn't have been in so much pain. He has now gone to have his teeth cleaned a total of 2x's in his entire 60yrs of life. He still won't listen to me, it is so sad. Thanks for reading an old woman's (62yrs), bitch about her husband & his teeth.

I don’t brush every day, and once I didn’t brush for five months, but I never get this hardened buildup, because I am plant-based - dairy / meats / eggs etc are the main cause of cavities and moving teeth and hardened buildup and tonsil stones and most other h-problem, and it isn’t sugar or carbs, like, I eat a lot of sugar and carbs almost every day, and I never get new cavities or hardened buildup, only a bit of soft buildup which can easily be scraped off, and it also comes off after eating apples, and, the only thing that sugar can cause is temporary toothache in sensitive teeth, as it irritates the nerve a bit, so I try to brush regularly because I get ache in my broken upper wisdom tooth after eating most types of sweets and granolas, as it is very sensitive, but luckily no new cavities and no moving teeth in over a decade, since going plant-based! (Also, I haven’t washed most of my body and my head in over one year, even though I am OCD, and I don’t even have smęlls because I am the pure being, and my breath also never has smęlls, even when I wouldn’t brush for months, but, the reason why I haven’t washed myself is, because I cannot do anything, and I am stuck in an impossible situation at the moment, so, many times, not showering and not brushing can be due to a mt block, or due to not having proper conditions and a proper house, and not necessarily due to fear, though it can also be due to fear or due to a combination of multiple other factors!)
That's amazing ì couldn't stop watching. Does that hurt. Is that person fully numbed up? The teeth underneath look so white compared to the tartar. They also look loose. None of them seem to have solid roots.
All I can think of when seeing these videos is how proud I am of them to finally seek help. Very brave. It is not easy especially if it is this bad. It might be late for some of the teeth but it won't be causing any more serious life-damaging illnesses/pain.
I was just thinking the same thing. I don't know how these people reach the points we see in the videos, but I'm always glad they're in a position where they can get the help they need.

Honestly, ppl have a breath / body etc that naturally smęll, so even brushing / showering won’t make it go away, and maybe just reduce it, and most cannot tell that it still has smęlls, but I can immediately smęll it if one is too close to me or if one talks or breathes and is one meter away or two meters away or half a meter away, because I have a very developed sense of smęll etc, so I don’t get too close to ppl as I am very sensitive to smęlls - however, I never have smęlls in my breath, not even when I don’t brush for months, and even my sweat and the other things that come from my body have no smęlls, as I am very pure and I also am plant-based, and, by the way, I used to not brush for months in the past, but now I brush regularly, at least every few days, or after eating sweets that give me a toothache in my broken wisdom tooth, but even when I didn’t brush for five months I still had no smęll, like, my breath just naturally has no smęlls, which was also tested and confirmed by others, not just by me testing it, and right after having something it smęlls just like the food or drink that I had, so right now my breath smęlls like Alpro blueberry yogurt with peanut butter and orange / mango juice as I just had those foods and drinks, and an hour later it shall have no smęll at all, as usually about one hour after eating and drinking it smęlls like nada (warm air without smęll) again!

Wow geez. Their poor gums look PAINFUL!!! I really seriously expected more decay and cavities and just damage to the teeth overall but they surprisingly looked pretty good given what you started with.
The odd thing is that tartar generally does not result in cavities. Cavities form where there is no tartar. The patient will now have to make sure he brushes his teeth with a flouride toothpaste twice a day, floss, and use an antibacterial mouthwash after flossing to prevent these newly exposed areas from getting cavities now.
Oh there’s decay.. in fact a root canal is needed on the first set of molars. The front teeth don’t rot like the molars. I’m surprised his wisdom tooth came in healthy and without impaction. I really hope this person learned that even if you can’t afford a toothbrush a homemade toothpick can help you scrap old food away. Humans have been cleaning their teeth in some fashion since the beginning of time. This person has totally neglected his mouth. I dont know how he lived with his breath. I feel bad saying this but his mouth likely smelled like a garbage disposal
Ikr?! it’s like all that tartar just protected the teeth underneath. How is that possible? How do they not have more decay in their teeth underneath all that?! Was that old food, or actual tissue from the mouth coming out from the bottom? I don’t even understand how you can build up that much tartar… just never brushing or flossing? It’s so wild to see the mostly healthy teeth underneath. Yah, the gums are jacked up, but they’ll eventually heal back around the teeth. So fascinating to watch. 😮
It was watching videos like this as a form of exposure therapy that got me over my fear of the dentist. :) 1 root canal and 5 fillings later and it's just routine visits for me now! If you are afraid of the dentist let me first note that my root canal was not only painless, but it felt like a much needed flossing, as though I could --while numbed--tell there was some relief going on. It was a spa day and a half, and I absolutely love visiting the dentist now. I wish you all the best on your road to dental health!!

Mind you, girl, the Tartar works as a protection wall, and its peculiar chemical composition serves to neutralize exactly the sort of acids that cause karies. In more extreme cases, the teeth have loosened to the point of falling out if it weren`t for the Tartar keeping them in place.
I am very sure relief would not describe how this patient for for a few days after this. I am sure there was pain and discomfort involved while healing.
Who knows where this procedure was done. A lot of countries do not have nearby dental clinics or clinics at all. And if there are clinics, sadly maybe money is an issue. Once plaque turns into tartar, it cannot be removed by a toothbrush but with tools that a hygienist has.

This is in the top 5 of the most severe cases that Dr. Gigi and his staff have placed on his UA-cam page. The only problem: those who should be seeing this probably will not see themselves in this until the pain gets so bad that they are forced to seek dental care. I would hope that some of these severe cases would have follow-ups and be easily linked for those of us who subscribe. This is just the first chapter in the complete dental plan. I would also like to know: are the patients indigent, uneducated, unaware of the ramifications of their lifetime of neglecting their teeth? Have they been prevented from seeking care due to financial constraints or fear of a visit to the dentist? Dr. Gigi is doing a tremendous service for the cause of preventive and maintenance dentistry. This is the real stuff, not sensationalized. Hats off from the kid of a dentist.
Even in extreme cases they still won’t go to the dentist and will prefer to lose all their teeth. My father was one of them, he neglected his oral hygiene up to the point of losing all but three teeth. And it’s a family thing. My first visit to the dentist was when I was 27: a molar had to be extracted due to cavities, severe crowding that was difficulting the (little) hygiene I had, a significant amount of tartar along the gumlines. Now almost 3 years later I’m getting my braces off in a couple weeks and I already have saved half of the amount needed for my implant. Most people would tell me ‘but you could have gone to the dentist since you were 18’ and the thing is, it’s really difficult to do things you’re not taught to do/used to do. Like some families go to the church on Sundays and others don’t, the ones that don’t go to the dentist cannot expect their children to take care of their teeth even in adulthood. And to think that I first went to the dentist out of my own curiosity…
I believe it's a combination of several factors, some of which you have mentioned. Complete oral hygiene is also not common knowledge (most people are only aware of having to brush their teeth twice, but not of scaling and/or flossing, or even proper brushing techniques). That said, things are changing, I believe that at least the middle and upper socio-economic class are becoming more aware and dilligent regarding flossing and routine scaling. Btw, _gigi_ is not his name. It's Indonesian for "teeth" (_dokter gigi_ literally translates to "teeth doctor" aka dentist.) In Indonesian, he would be referred to as Drg (or dokter gigi) Tri.
Thank you for sharing. Greet dentist and dental assistant! Wishing the patient the best of luck on their new tooth journey. . Hopefully now they will stay in schedule.
I'm just thinking of how bad that must have tasted and smelt as well as hurt. I can't stand it when my teeth feel even remotely slimy, I don't know how people let it get to this point. Goes to show how important effective and consistent education around dental hygiene is.
Not always, someone can have insurance and money to pay and still won't go due to phobia or, worst, laziness! I've seen it in my own family! I've tried shaming, telling them it's for their own good health, no change! Very frustrating!
Holy moly, the pain this person must be feeling. I can't even imagine. I really hope you gave them something for the pain during and after this fascinating procedure. Also antibiotics bc, while I'm not a doctor, I'm gonna guess they will probably develop an infection with all that exposed tissue. I'm also guessing this person might lose a tooth or two, bc I saw at least one tooth wiggling while you were blasting it, and then you had to hold the tooth to finish off that one tooth. And then I continue to watch and there is a large amount of, I'm guessing semi rotting not attached flesh that you just moved out of the way. Makes me realize how lucky I am, my teeth aren't perfect and neither is my oral care routine, that I live where I live. While there are lots of people who don't take care of their teeth, they usually have excessive cavities/rot out due to the amount of sugar in most peoples diets. Anyways, amazing job. This is probably a life changing event for this person.

The longer answer!
There’s a couple main facts to know to understand this:
1- Plaque is mostly bacteria and food debris.
@@Ray.of.the.Remnantyep! In addition to the minerals, it can kind of act like a protective cover around the tooth as well

A reminder that this is also what dental hygienists are also trained to do. ✌
that smell is tooth decay, pop some mouth wash after you're finished.

This dentist was quite gentle, given he had huge chunks to remove, so, bravo! Well done! Dentists are unsung hero’s, in my book! They spend years hunched over, doing their work in a tiny place. Then, once they’re near retirement, need back surgery, or need help with their bad backs later on! From those of us who care, thank you!

That's amazing ì couldn't stop watching. Does that hurt. Is that person fully numbed up? The teeth underneath look so white compared to the tartar. They also look loose. None of them seem to have solid roots.
The gums were so far pushed away from the teeth so I think that's why. Gums will shift back pretty easily though.
Yes they are numbed but it will hurt later for a few days.
The teeth are loose because the bone has receded due to infection and inflammation.
All I can think of when seeing these videos is how proud I am of them to finally seek help. Very brave. It is not easy especially if it is this bad. It might be late for some of the teeth but it won't be causing any more serious life-damaging illnesses/pain.

I really seriously expected more decay and cavities and just damage to the teeth overall but they surprisingly looked pretty good given what you started with.
thats what i was thinking!
I feel bad saying this but his mouth likely smelled like a garbage disposal
bby tree you are stunning 😍
Ikr?! it’s like all that tartar just protected the teeth underneath.
1 root canal and 5 fillings later and it's just routine visits for me now! If you are afraid of the dentist let me first note that my root canal was not only painless, but it felt like a much needed flossing, as though I could --while numbed--tell there was some relief going on. It was a spa day and a half, and I absolutely love visiting the dentist now.

The feeling after your teeth are cleaned is the best.

I used to work as a dental nurse with a periodontist, that has to be the best tartar I've ever seen!
What was the grayish tissuey looking stuff under the heavier tartar sections?
@@rvrotter1 periodontal gum disease. its dead tissue (necrosis). pretty gnarly.
@@nokuma I’ll say. That’s what I thought it was but couldn’t wrap my head around it!
@@rvrotter1 It also looks like all their teeth are mobile which means they wont be sticking around much longer.
Can you even imagine how horrendous his breath had been?
I love the location of their dental clinic next to an actual flowing river. So peaceful.
🤣🤣
😂
I'd say that sound is someone wading in wellies pot holing😂😂😂😂😂😂
I like to imagine it's hidden away behind a waterfall
Makes me have to pee……..
I can’t imagine being awake for this scaling 😰
Kl ngerjain yg tebel gt dianastesi dl ga sih dok?
Kasihan gusi si ibunya sampe meradang gitu 😭 tapi seneng juga karena si ibu bakal bisa menikmati mulut dan gigi yg sehat 👍
Kiss him
Ngeri lihtnya
I'm just thinking of how bad that must have tasted and smelt as well as hurt. I can't stand it when my teeth feel even remotely slimy, I don't know how people let it get to this point. Goes to show how important effective and consistent education around dental hygiene is.
It's usually a mental health issue, not a result of not knowing how or why to take care of the teeth
Poverty. Count yourself as fortunate.
Not always, someone can have insurance and money to pay and still won't go due to phobia or, worst, laziness! I've seen it in my own family! I've tried shaming, telling them it's for their own good health, no change! Very frustrating!
@@missmouse20it’s costs nothing to brush, even without toothpaste
@dcg590 not true. A tooth brush in some countries are nor easy to get or afford.
i love how in everyone I've seen so far the dental assistant comes through with the suction RIGHT when my anxiety finna go through the roof!
Como alguém pode deixar os dentes chegar a esse ponto. Brilhante esse profissional. Parabéns
Pode ser depressão já ouvi falar desses casos infelizmente 😔
Eu me perguntei a mesma coisa
Meu Deus que que é isso?
da uma agonia os buracos q ficam depois 😣
It was already infected
you can develop something called endocarditis when you have dental work done so good call on the antibiotics!
It’s so satisfying to watch these kind of videos. I hope the patient feels a lot better after this procedure.
Itu penyebab nya apa sih dok?
Klu cuma krna gk rajin gosok gigi gk sampe kyk gtu juga kyak nya
Baru liat channel dentist indo emang satisfying liatnya
Absolutely beautiful job done by this Doctor/ Dentist!!!!!!! WOW!!!! HE IS VERY PATIENT WITH HIS CLIENTS. 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
It's fkn fake!
Did you give him.her a free brush and toothpaste?
Estou impressionada!!

😂😂😂😂😂😂
You know that had to be painful and a big relief when it came out. Great job 👏
Hi dear, how are you doing today I hope everything is going absolutely perfect with you?
Omg this is horrific 😱
Thank you, this will encourage me to go get the procedure done ASAP before it gets this bad

😊
I bet they won't
Verdade... misericórdia que situação hein!
Exactamente! Ojalá que si. 🩷
I'm sure this young man won't take care of his teeth since he seems not to have been taught as a child. I know that my husband wasn't taught & he still only brushes his teeth once a day in the morning.
I haven’t seen that rotting gum before and was that corn?? Great video
What was the skin looking stuff?
Chicken from 3 years earlier
Seemed like food to me
He had corn stuck under there also
@@deeree314and then I think gum (tooth) tissue. That corn must’ve been there for years
i thought im the only one that thought it was corn
Necrotic tissue
Anybody can get a little tartar buildup by not keeping up with regular cleanings, but to get tartar buildup to this degree is just a mystery to me.
Looks fake to me. I have watched so many of these videos and they all have a black residue underneath of them and what was that gooey stuff? It must not have hardened up on their teeth before they started scaling the supposed tartar
@@chilipeppa7359So you assume it's fake? So all the bleeding is just red liquid being poured in this mouth? RIGHT...let me know when you stop being so delusional 🤦
You'll believe in your own BS as truth 🤣
@@chilipeppa7359 It's dead tissue from the gum line being eroded by the severe tartar. I've seen tartar like this before...it's very possible.
@@chilipeppa7359It never occurred to me that this could be a “fake” video. The fact is: you know what I DID NOT SEE? I didn’t see a single cavity.
I stand corrected. At the end I saw a tooth with some decay. Still thinking this could be a not too real video
Beruntung sekali si ibu, jadi pergi ke dokter gigi untuk bersihin karang, good job bu👍👍
Это не зубной налет , это зубные глыбы !!! Завалы
And that's right before toothbrushes were invented.
The way my floss smell at night and the morning after eating everything I want. I could only imagine the SMELL from all the tartar buildup. 😷 Good job team!!
there's literally a corn farm in the patient's mouth
great work by the dentist
Omg this was unreal! Well done Dr!❤
Amazing dentist you are. Thank you for your compassion.
This person must not have had access to dental care for a very long time. Great job!
A toothbrush?
