Thanks for watching Everyone! *Please stay safe, but also please think of your neighbours who may be in need. Check in on those who may be most vulnerable in this time of need.* As always the recipe is in the description box, and The 1 Gallon HomeBrew Recipe: ua-cam.com/video/C0s4cS_m5JM/v-deo.html
A grilled cheese sandwich on the side?
"If you're watching this in 2050. . . "
I hope your channel has that type of staying power and impact.
Two videos in two days ... you're making the Italian "lockdown" bearable! Grazie
I love these keep calm videos a year later with the breakthrough infections and the delta variant. Thank you.
Glen, all of those depression era recipes were just your training for this panic buying frenzy! I haven't gone to the store (I have heard the horror stories around town, though) but I always plan a list of meals in advance and went 2 weeks ago. I thought the exact same thing as you. There is a lot in my pantry that I might not normally combine into a meal, but it's perfectly doable if need be. They might not be as luxurious meals as normal, but it's a great time to take inventory and use the ingredient you own that just sit in the pantry/freezer. Thanks for reminding me that I have dried beans!
Yes! Soup shouldn't be smooth. Give it some texture and add the beans. I'm all for that. Thank you for keeping us entertained and fed during the excitement.
As long as it has no barley in it. Because then it's called flying bowl into dog bowl soup aka na I'm not hungry soup.
Glenn 3 weeks into the pandemic: "Hello friends, today we're making a squirrel stew I found in this Appalachian cookbook..."
Squirrel Hash is a real breakfast food around the hills of Appalachia.
I have seen squirrels in the neighbourhood, might come in handy.
hello, I am making a family favorite this morning, rock soup.
start with water add rock. boil til tender..
Probably easier to catch a raccoon in Toronto.
@@SylviusTheMad "...today we're making Trash Panda Goulash...."
I like how your intro was a sort of time capsule-esque message. Like the start of some movies.
Edit: That soup would be good with a grilled cheese.
Thank You for doing this. It really lifts my spirits to see you two being upbeat and resourceful during a time that’s hard for lots of folks.
I really appreciate this. Thanks for keep a little bit of normal in our lives right now!
Who cares about authenticity?! Not me! As long as it tastes good, it's fine with me. I'm not a food snob! BTW thanks for the great recipes for this point in our history. Definitely needed and appreciated. This look fab! Thanks again!
Made this with some chipotles in adobo sauce since that's all I had, came out great! Thanks for putting together these pantry friendly recipes!
Stuff in the Pantry. Simple and to the point also a pun perhaps "stuffing" the pantry. You do you boo we'll all be here watching no matter what you call it lol
Watching this so much longer later at him freaking out he touched his face was such a giggle for me
You are a fantastic chef-you should have one million subscribers. Thank you
Glenn, keep these recipes coming. Your helping people on many levels. Great recipes for the coming days. Soup is economical, available and comforting. Thank you for providing us with some useful information as well as entertainment. Be well
Once again, thank you for bringing an odd sense of calm to this pure insanity. It's been so stressful...afraid to open facebook and get more stressed but afraid to not open it and miss some important information. What a rollercoaster.
Thank you for this series...we could all use recipe ideas for the canned items we have in our pantries 😊Be well and safe everyone
This isn't just thrifty and a great lesson on pantry cooking, I made for dinner and it is awesome
I am also feeling like this would be a great way to use up the 1/4 sack of any kind of pasta you have laying around as well. I am going to toss in some cooked elbow mac into this...looks great!!
I am very much enjoying this accidental series! I love your explanation of why you are doing this, for the future to understand.
Tonight I came across your channel while I was browsing UA-cam and saw your Depression-era recipes. I clicked, hoping to find food I could make with very little because the markets in the US are very empty as well. I was only able to get my hands on some yogurt on my last trip, and multivitamins just in case I can't get what I need from less food. Right now I'm trying to ration my food intake and have also been trying to make things with fewer ingredients, at least until I can find more food on my next market run. I'm really glad I came across your channel. You show how easy it is to make something using simple ingredients and you are also just very pleasant to watch. I think I may have a can of tomatoes and beans left in my pantry as well as many spices, and will hopefully be able to make a pot of something with it. All the panic buying has been leaving many people going hungry and I hope it stops soon.
We are doing our best just east of you in Oshawa. Things are tight and thanks for the "pantry" recipes. It's making our isolation go better.
Yum! The soup looks like a spicy version of pork and beans...minus the pork. And way less sweet. Big plus! Thanks for the imaginative series.
Thank you Glenn! This sort of content is so calming and relaxing for people like myself who are in incredibly stressful positions right now due to this virus! Cheers from a Brit currently stranded in the US
Thanks for your great channel. Always calms me down and especially so this week. Appreciate ya both.
Grocery shopping this morning was stressful, most things were picked over. Surprisingly there were lots of dried beans and other legumes so I got some even though I'd normally buy those things canned. Thankfully I'll have plenty of time to cook since my university is moving classes online 😅
There were still big briskets in the meat section last night at Wally World.
Great video and recipe!!
I will be looking forward to watching your videos in the upcoming days!! Great way to spend our time at home!!
Grilled Cheese would go great with the soup!! Enjoy the series.
I always new there were nice people on our planet earth and bingo here you are, thankyou for being you and sharing lots of fun recipes. Cheers Tammy
I so will try this. I still got some of grandmas preserved tomato soup i in inherited last year and a can or two of beans. This will be perfect for that.
That looks so good. Bean soup with ham was a comfort food for my dad, he liked to make it himself and mom made the homemade biscuits.
Watched this when it was first posted.. but tonight went back and actually made the soup... it is amazing.. Thank you Glen.
I love stuff in our cupboard. I have been trying to do this. I am making this tonight. Thank you because I could not think of what to make.
Update if you're watching this in 2050 - It's now December 23, 2021 and unfortunately depending where you live your country is now under 4th or 5th wave of the pandemic. Some still isolated, stay inside, self quarantine and social distance and avoid large crowds. Thank god we have Glen to teach us varies ways to cook with tons of flavors ;-) Kidding by but not kidding - Thank Glen!!!!
I'd like this soup with bread, toast, or tortilla chips. Maybe even Doritos. Mainly I'd want something to sop up the liquid component a bit.
And as for the One Gallon Beer, I say you said maybe later today or tomorrow, I vote tomorrow, spread those videos out. Maybe set it up as a premiere like you did with the Taco Soup yesterday so people can get the recipe and ingredients from the description tonight, and tomorrow as it airs you could answer questions in the chat if people want to ask about how to do things for the brew.
I just found your channel, and I'm loving this new series. Lots more please!
WELCOME FRIENDS!
great series, these are recipes i am actually going to use. thanks!
especially considering that i didnt buy food preps as my brother advised me to. however, we're on a tight monthly budget so i didnt really have an extra few hundred dollars to buy extra groceries for preps or pantry stuffing. ...but i do have plenty of random items that im not sure what to do with, that will now work perfectly for these types of recipes.
Might try making this soup this weekend as I have all these ingredients on hand. Enjoying the series, very apropo thanks Glen!
I think I will make it this week. The only chilis I got is smoked Carolina Reaper and some thai chili in the freezer. I think the Reaper would bring amazing aroma 🤔
I’m going to try this soup as I’m vegetarian and it’s full of protein and spice which I love.
GREAT SERIES! Thanks.
Just made a big rice and beans with a very similar flavor profile. This could be a great next meal on my chopping block.
Thanks for doing these extra videos Glen. Now on to that one gallon beer video.
Thank you for this episode. Will give it a try👍👍👍
Quarantine Cooking. Thanks for the recipes to inspire us.
Please continue this type of video in the future, especially with items many people have along with substitution ideas. I love hearing how to "wing it" with a basic plan. A lot of cooking has to do with what we have on hand for dinner after work. Looking up recipes online can be frustrating because they will call for 90% what people keep around and 10% some oddball items I'm not sure that my local grocer even carries. Thanks!
Also... ideas on what to add to soups without any stock.
Love this one! I think I'll try it this week.
LOVE YOUR BASIC SOUP RECIPES.
I will try this tomorrow! Thanks for the inspiration and positive vibes!
Such a great series.
Looks great! Thanks for sharing this Glenn
I make a killer black bean soup that's really simple. It starts with dried beans cooked with onions and spices that I always have in the fridge. Canned would work too. For the soup, I just saute a diced tomato and clove of garlic, then add some black beans (with liquid) and water as needed. Bash it with a potato masher and boil for a few minutes. It's very hearty and flavorful.
Yay, recipe about using that is available in a kitchen. Nice :D.
Thanks for posting...great ideas for recipes
The Hunker Down series. :)
Looks great. Maybe some toasted pepitas for garnish.
Kidney Beans!
i just had salt free tomato sauce for some reason and added equal water and some spices and a bit of cream and it was good, never thought of pureeing beans in it ... ill have to try that
As mentioned, times were hard. You ate what was available.
A diner might call it(to themselves, walk-in stew), on the menu, it's "today's special" with plenty of croutons and parsley(onions, on request)with the necessary orange twist.
At fishing/hunting/we are lost camp, it's called "whatchagot stew."
As mentioned, times are hard. And they did it on a wood or cow chip stove.
love puerto morelos
Let's see what Glen has bean doing
The panic buying phase will probably only last a few days. It did here in Denmark and now supermarkets are mostly back to normal. Everything is more or less back in stock (except for maybe hand sanitizer). Plenty of milk, eggs and even toilet paper on the shelves when I went shopping today.
Great video! Will the beer video be coming soon?
Yes, soon
I like the way Julie just waltzed in with the beer like she brought the party. Lighten up, Glen. lol
Love those recipes: what’s in your cubbord? Like the way i cook myselves.
I just discovered your channel and subscribed. Hello from Hamilton!! 😀😀
I'm going to go binge your channel now!! 😀😀
Coronavirus Bean soup, my favorite! 😷😆😆😋🥣
I hope you make a wheat beer video. That's something I'd love to try and make.
At My local store , the only empty shelves was of
rolled oats! Porridge must be popular here?
“Pandemic pantry prep”.
Great name! Haha
Pantry magic?
You could also add in chips made from tortillas.
Great video Glen. I wonder if there will be a 2050 if this not stopped. 😥
I'm lucky. Here in Oklahoma no one is freaking out. The shelves of all 3 local grocery stores had plenty of everything.
Just made a potato soup with carrots, onions and garlic today. I added some smoked sausages and spices which made it very tasty.
Chinese Cooking Demystified did a great update on Instagram about #cookinginlockdown and I feel ready for this. Thank you so very much for doing this series Glen. It is really appreciated :)
A quesadilla with pickled jalapenos and chihuahua cheese would be great with this.
To quote my late mum....... So it's Been Soup. But what is it now? Thank you. I'll be giving this one a go.
Suggestion..... Try a Cornish Pasty. There great, especially when each end hangs over the edge of your dinner plate.
After it's been soup, about 12 hours later you better be one of those people that stocked up on TP...
I have a smoked hamhock and half a bag of pinto beans.. 😁
This will end up on one of the talking rings of the Eloi.
Social distancing.... I’ve been practicing that my whole life.
Actually easier to get fresh tomatoes at the moment in my local shops as everyone has raided the canned food isle 🏴
Any good ideas for canned tuna? Sure there are a bunch from your vintage cookbook collection 🙂
I scored 2 turkey wings and a thigh during my tour of our denuded local grocery. I am thinking Turkey soup and maybe a casserole from the thigh. I live with and care for my 86 year mom so we are concentrating on the joys of daily life while I go to work each day and wait for my workplace to finally lockdown. Your videos are a happy part of the day 🙂
Coming soon!
Glen & Friends Cooking yay! Had no doubt you’d come through 🙂 now we just need wine and/or beer pairings.
Glen, can you make a nice beef and barley soup please?
idk i kind of like the name "Stuff In Our Cupboard"
Great Video,,I was interested in your kitchen cupboards where did you buy them ? and the handles ??
Mexican or Italian oregano? Looks wonderful!
Yes cumin seed does need the frying stage otherwise it tastes like sawdust.
how about the home brew series? recipes you home brew with what you have.
Hey Glen, what do you do will all the food you cook?
"I don't know what to call it." I say "Pandemic Pantry".
Can you call this series "Pantry Raid?"
Glen: "It's currently March, 2020."
Me, watching this in March 2021: "Ah, yes, the beforetimes."
Glen touched his face. You know what that means... two weeks of sleeping in the kitchen!
OK... IMPORTANT QUESTION... What is that monster blender?
Stressipes
It should be called
Pantry essentials
link to the beer video? Can't seem to find it but sounds awesome
Just finishing up the edit - later today?
For some reason I no longer see your videos in my subscription box. The last video I saw was the lemon pudding cake in December. Thanks UA-cam!
Im almost thinking of adding some boiled carrot.....
