I love the hurdy gurdy, I love it because it doesnt take a masterpiece to make it sound beautiful. You could just drone on and on doing whatever and itll provide good tunes. Maybe someday I'll put in the dedication and funds to learn the hurdy gurdy myself. :)
Hiya, I'm literally on day one of actually playing my hurdy gurdy and you're spot on. Just droning on and on with the occasional keypress is quite fun. If you're a bit patient and handy with woodworking tools, I can recommend the Nerdy Gurdy Linotte. It goes for 350€ or so and it's not just a toy-version but actually quite playable. Personally, I had a few slight inaccuracies when building but it's only slightly noticable. But honestly, it's more than just "good enough" to find out if you like the instrument and want to invest in a more professional one further down the line.
I'm so glad I stumbled across your channel, I'm in love with the hurdy gurdy and plan on buying one soon. I'm excited to follow along with the video once I have my gurdy :)

Ay, even though I won't have my own instrument before february at the earliest, this was really helpful. I hadn't thought about the specific way to hold the crank, but as a trombonist I know the importance of getting the correct hold down right away. I remember the coup de 3 was not the most difficult to learn. I started learning the regular coup de 3 after irregular ones, and with a good sense of rythm, it was quite easy. Still struggling to get a perfect coup de 4 though...
Yes! Most people skip coup de 3 and it's very important, and don't worry I have excercises that will make you tame the Coup de 4! The challenge on this "more advanced" excercise is to really feel the accent changing on coup de 3. I checked and it's not super clear on the video. But the thing is you have to make quieter copus and really HIT on the accent (and it moves on every bar :P )
