I actually love when crafters show us they make mistakes. It reminds us all we are human and even after doing something forever, you could make a goofy mistake. I love your channel!
Made this bag today for my girlfriend. It was my first bag that i have made. I made the mistake of trimming my seams after hand sewing them all and didnt leave enough under the tabs so there are open leather edges just at the top. But overall i was pleased with how it turned out for being my first bag. I used a 4 ounce veg tan goat skin and the temper was perfect for the bag. Thanks for all you do. Ive been watching you since the start of my leather craft journey and you have have been a god send as a teacher. I cant tell you how much i have learned from watching you the last two years. Thank you again.
I like how you keep your mistakes in & point out mistakes you made. I started leather craft around 6 months ago & i make silly mistakes and they really frustrate me. So it's nice to see you being honest! Also great video & love the simplicity of the bag!
I love your videos! I’m barely starting out and proud to say that I buy all my stuff from Tandy! I love it because they take the time and show you around and tell you what you’ll need for your project. I will continue watching you since you inspire me. Thanks!
Hi from Turkey, far far away.😊. Your videos inspire the ones who are trying to find out the way to do the leather work. You have a magnificent family. God bless you all. Keep up the good work.
Your enthusiasm for leatherwork is contagious. Your projects employ techniques and features that give a good foundation for for future growth. I think it would be helpful to use beginners if you desribed the type and weight of leather you choose for a given projesc. Yes, veg-tan is pretty. obvious. when used, but some of the other types are tough to tell. Knowing the weight and type would help give guidelines as to wear and strenght for a given use. Oh, BTW, "In like Flynn" refers to the old actor Errol Flynn, who was quite the ladies man, and "dated" many of the famous actresses of that time. So, "In LIke Flynn" means...a slick entry!
Thanks Parker! Working on this same pouch today using your most excellent teaching skills! But have to stitch it with a sewing awl, no fancy Juka machine here! Sure appreciate your channel.
Another great video and a great looking bag. I always get a kick of watching you work with the tiny bits like that zipper pull. That tiny little piece of leather and those big ole hams that you have for hands. hehe. Keep the great vids coming.
This video never gets old. I also think its awesome you keep your "mistakes" in your videos because it makes the rest of us feel better knowing the pro's even make "boo-boos". :)
Hello! I just found your Channel but I’ve been binge-learning from it all day. I am also based in Utah and was extremely happy to see you’re based in Ogden, I have been looking for a local craftsman to learn from.
I love this! My clients need a bag like this only lined....I'm having trouble with the zipper closure getting it to look good with the lining right now.
@@sunellourenco8063 I finished my project lined and it turned out beautifully! I lined it because they needed a pocket for their cell phone and they were also storing their sunglasses inside.
Im going to buy my first leather tools and scrapleather next month thanks to your videos! First video i saw wa the one with the holdster for your dad and i instantly got hooked on your positive attitude and passion for leathercraft. Thanks you for your videos and im pumped for next month. Blessings to you and your family :)
I've attempted this bag twice now and it has come out ok. My zipper ends don't quite come up where I want them to. I need to tweak it a bit. My hand crank sewing machine is nothing compared to your Juki but when I saw what they run for, I think i'll have to make due with my hand crank.
I have wanted to do leatherworking for some time, this video helped me make the leap into the craft as I thought it was simple enough but still looked great and had alot of utility. Thanks for sharing your videos, I'm learning alot from them.
Thank you for this tutorial! Just used this video to make a small lambskin (soft temper) makeup bag for my mom's birthday coming up. I'm using hand tools for sewing but managed to get the job done 👍 I really appreciate your videos and insight...You've been a massive help in teaching me and others the "craft" in leathercraft!
I liked how you showed your mistake with the zipper. Keeping it real. Kudos! Also, I'm totally going to steal your leather zipper stops on my next project. Nice design! 😉
Fabulous, as usual! As a newbie, I greatly appreciate hearing what weight and kind of leather. It’s helping me to learn what to use. You’re a great inspiration. Also, thanks for sharing info about the affiliate link. I’m sure most of us want to do what we can to help support you since you support us!
When I bought my starter kit from my local Tandy, I wound up hating to go to it because the manager was a condescending jerk who refused to answer my questions about tools, pattern kits, and Leathercrafting, itself. Now that it has moved from out west of Ft Lauderdale to North Miami, it's under new management with a totally different staff, and it's now one of my favorite places to go, too.
awesome.... I live in the Bahamas, I make straw bags, (as a hobby) and have been dabbling with vinyl in my designs. I love your channel and I have a ton of questions, your video on sew machines was great. would like to work with leather, but dont really know were to start.
In love with every single thing you teach us about everything you guys made! Hoping to see new stuff in your channel. Thanks :). Cheers from Chihuahua, México
Lovely looking bag. Totally noticed you cementing up both sides! 6:06 hahahah. Awesome that you cleared that up for us anyhow. 👍For learners this type of transparency is invaluable. Congrats on the commission!
Hi. I'm Luis from New jersey, thanks to show step by step even the mistakes. Nice work. Question can you tell me what brand and model is your sawing machine
Hi Parker, I love your work and your videos! I was just wondering, how come you don't line your bags with anything? I guess it doesn't matter as much for bigger bags, but make-up bags could probably use some? What's your view on this. Thanks for your answer and thanks for the videos and inspiration!
Mate it was playing like a horror movie in my mind, and I was screaming at the screen "Parker, no! Go back!" Hahaha I've done that with the zipper more times than I'd care to share.
Hey Parker! Would there be any difference on having the leather in one full peice insted of two? Ro eliminate the seam on the bottom? Or does that seam add rogidity?
I've been a leathercrafter since 8 years of age. My dad bought me a Tandy Deluxe kit for all of $50 in 1976. Almost a half century later, we're starting a business! So... weird question... we are getting ready to build our workshop behind the main house and I'm wondering if yours is by chance a Tuff Shed? What size is your structure, and do you feel like you have enough room to suit your needs? Love your videos!
I’m new to leather crafting and don’t have all the machines. To start out you ran the edges through a machine that I’m guessing thinned the leather on the edges. What hand tool would I use to do that and please explain why you do that.
How are you sewing the sides, along the zipper tabs? My new Leatherwork is not impressing me so far, and the walking foot does not like walking over the thicker leather.
Absolutely love the videos and the products you make. Thanks for taking the time to share with all of us your passion and skills. I was curious at 7:04 you lifted the foot and restarted the seam rather than backstitch. I had never seen that before and was just curious why do that rather than backstitch? Is your reverse not in-synch with your forward stitch length?
50 bonus points if you can tell what color my fingernails were painted last week;) couldn't get it all off.
Pink :)
Pink!
😂🤣😂🤣😂
You're a good daddy!
Pink
Hi Parker, im from Denmark so i have no idea what 3-4 onuces is sadly, so do you know how thic it is in cm?
I actually love when crafters show us they make mistakes. It reminds us all we are human and even after doing something forever, you could make a goofy mistake. I love your channel!
Thank you for NOT editing out the mistakes. We learn from them. I appreciate you, thank you!
Glad to hear it, thank you!

Loved the VOD segment, you have a beautiful family. This was a really useful yet wholesome video thanks 🙏🏻

I know little about the leatherworking process but, I have to say that you do beautiful work and your passion for your work shows in the results.
Awesome bag... looks so easy, when someone else does it... LOL
Love the way he allows us to see his mistakes and how he fixes them - great guy
Glad to hear you like that, because it's always tough for me to do haha. Thanks for the kind words:)
I like the fact that you show your mistakes, since we all make them. Your videos are entertaining and informative. Love your skiver! Thank you.
Jeez, I'm TOTALLY wincing as you sew over the ends of the zipper...lol!
Hi from Turkey, far far away.😊. Your videos inspire the ones who are trying to find out the way to do the leather work. You have a magnificent family. God bless you all. Keep up the good work.
I'm not into leather work but I really enjoy watching your videos, especially the recent ones, cheers from France !

I was about to asked the question about the lining.. is there any easier way🙈 and is it necessary to line ??
@@sunellourenco8063 I finished my project lined and it turned out beautifully! I lined it because they needed a pocket for their cell phone and they were also storing their sunglasses inside.
It’s beautiful! You are very talented, can’t wait to see it in the softer leather!
thanks a lot bro...very inspiring. Greetings from Bali,Indonesia

Wow thanks for sharing such fabulous info with us all. You are a Pro!
Lining. Satin Lining!!! Im struggling to fit a satin lining into such a bag.
Including your mistakes makes for a much more interesting video. The reality it provides makes the craft feel accessible to the rest of us. Thank you
In love with every single thing you teach us about everything you guys made! Hoping to see new stuff in your channel. Thanks :). Cheers from Chihuahua, México
Beautiful work always and fun to watch videos. Love the mistakes- I’ll remember those parts way better when I try to make this bag!! 🤞🏼
Lol! I
💕 how much you're enjoying yourself!
Just started watching your videos and it would be cool if you made watch straps!
Hmmm good tutorial. Good job 👍

Mate it was playing like a horror movie in my mind, and I was screaming at the screen "Parker, no! Go back!" Hahaha
I've done that with the zipper more times than I'd care to share.
Nice video. Good job keeping it real. Beautiful family too. Look fwd to more videos. Ciao from Canada! 😊
Beautiful. I love a nice zipper pouch! I know the season pass holders will, too.
All the positivity and still dislikes??? Come on!! This guy is amazing!
Slick one, bruhhh :D I'm always intimidated by those type of tucked corners for bags. But the pattern looks totally doable! Thank you:)
Hey Parker! Would there be any difference on having the leather in one full peice insted of two? Ro eliminate the seam on the bottom? Or does that seam add rogidity?
So good quality... May I know what size leather you started with.. I wanna try out..😁🙏tq
Love your style.
Hi from el paso tx I was working for tony lama for 15 years
What kind of cement are you using? I usually use double sided leather tape to hold bits and pieces together.
I love your videos,I’ve learned so much from you guy !!
Great video as always Parker! How do you sew the zipper stoppers without the needle breaking on the metal teeth?
Just sew very slowly and the needle should skim past them! Its the same when you sew them onto fabric. I always use the hand wheel!
How did you stitch over the zipper metal without breaking the needle?
What or if any finish or preservative is applied or is the bag sent raw?
I’m new to leather crafting and don’t have all the machines. To start out you ran the edges through a machine that I’m guessing thinned the leather on the edges. What hand tool would I use to do that and please explain why you do that.
What kind of glue is in your little tube thing? And where can I get one of those tubes?
Both great questions! Wondering the same thing.
and how to treat the skin so that it remains the same color and does not darken over time? is there such a remedy?
Thank you , very helpful
Curious what you used for your zipper pull ?
How are you sewing the sides, along the zipper tabs? My new Leatherwork is not impressing me so far, and the walking foot does not like walking over the thicker leather.
Beautiful family, beautiful job. Love from India !
You really helped me out with this. Life ssems really easy over there judging by how you cut parts out. Haha. Good job. Great video
Absolutely love the videos and the products you make. Thanks for taking the time to share with all of us your passion and skills. I was curious at 7:04 you lifted the foot and restarted the seam rather than backstitch. I had never seen that before and was just curious why do that rather than backstitch? I love bag u made I couldn't make it before but now I can
