I agree with you that it's so irritating to listen to streaming that introduces a gap between tracks - I was therefore very surprised that when I bought a little philips CD/Radio player last year that it always puts a break between tracks. I have never experienced this on a CD player before, it's utterly ridiculous.

Hi Hans, I have watched many of your videos and I purchased your book. I was wondering if you could eventually cover Metadata correction software. You rightly point out how important Metadata is, but what happens if you inherit a bunch of music from somewhere and the metadata is all messed up? Will it damage the Music fidelity? Thank you so much.

I use Mac's and the program Yate is ideal for this. It can download data from two sources, including cover art en adventure identify tracks by acoustic fingerprint. And it works extremely fast. I have little recent experience on other OS'ses for editing metadata so I can't help you there.

one of my friends has the squeezebox classic (Nov 2005) from Logitech. Pretty ancient stuff. Never saw one before.

    Great video, thanks!
Have you ever tried PLEX for audio streaming? How does it stand against Roon in your opinion?

It doesn't. It supposedly is fine for video but for audio - and Roon only does audio - it's no comparison.

Hans, now that MQA has gained a momentum and it's becoming more and more popular and Universal are encoding their insane catalogue in MQA as well, then why do we need expensive streamers and local music servers? Perhaps a cheap Chromecast Audio with Toslink output to an MQA enabled DAC plus TIDAL or equivalent would do.

The quality of the reproduction equipment, including the streamer and DAC, still plays a large role in determining the audio quality, also when playing MQA files.

Hans, it would be great if you could compare MQA DACs playing MQA files or streams...Especially interesting would be Audioquest Dragonfly RED plus their JitterBug, which together cost $249 in the US, so it's a super cheap product.

I’d like to ask ... would streaming services such as Qobuz or Tidal Master have quality that is equivalent to a CD? Is there a difference? Assuming a good CD player is matched against a good streamer.

The quality of both streaming services is equal or better to CD. If differences are noticed, it is because of different releases of that album - meaning different 'remastering' - or the difference in. the players. Remember that both services are lossless and offer higher sampling rates than the CD. Tidal uses MQA, to enjoy the higher sampling rates you have to use a player that can handle MQA.
