  • Colleen is a former elementary educator with over twenty-six years of experience teaching, creating curriculum, and designing and implementing youth educational programming across a variety of age groups. In addition, she has developed and presented multiple professional development and design thinking initiatives serving educational staff and community members. .
    Ten years ago, Colleen and her partner Ted, founded the climate planning firm paleBLUEdot, now a leading provider of comprehensive carbon, climate change, sustainability, and renewable energy planning and services. As part of paleBLUEdot, she spearheads community engagement efforts as well as educational materials focused on youth climate awareness and action.
    In addition, Colleen is currently a PhD student in Literacy Education at the University of Minnesota studying the impact of eco-grief on youth and how the concept of hope shows up in stories. Colleen is also a graduate instructor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction as well as Coordinator of the U of M Curriculum and Instruction Library. She is passionate about exploring literature and storytelling with children and young adults, as well as the powerful roles hope, grief, and collective action play in the lives of young people as they navigate growing up in the midst of a climate crisis.
