On the rotation, if you have trouble on the "Ranged card > Oracle" combo due to Oracle needing an enemy *targeted* to cast it, I often cast Oracle *before* the card, as you're already targeting the boss with Malefic before the Oracle cast, which may make it a bit easier to execute that latter half. I used to have some trouble with that part during EX1 and some of EX2. You can also just optionally delay Oracle till the next GCD so you don't double-weave if that is easier, since it's still in raid buffs. Otherwise, great guide as always Cae! EDIT: Also slightly annoyed at how I can't double-weave the cards on this new version of AST. Granted, there isn't a lot of reason why you'd do it but it would have been cool!
That is a good tip and a good point! 😄 Thank you! With the change on 7.05 a few days ago they did make it so we can doubleweave cards again, but that's of course for the defensive cards! 😅
Yeah I do slightly disagree with Ceatsu's suggested opener/burst. For me personally, I always single weave the dps buff cards because it requires re-targeting. Oracle does flat damage upfront and has no cooldown of its own, so you can safely use it late in the burst if need be (just not too late).
13:48 I will say, every healer/tank guide on the internet I've come across usually glosses over dungeon healing because "it's casual content" etc. Without considering that nothing is more threatening to a tank than a wall-to-wall and playing dungeons is EVERYONE'S first experience as a healer in party content. I really respect that YOU respect everyone has to start somewhere, Cae.
13:30 honestly, I haven't done much healing as AST above 90, so I've been experimenting with planning pulls around macrocosmos when it's off cooldown since I feel like it has basically no value as a panic heal 🤔
1 mistake I made was never realizing the AoE for Divination is actually HUGE. I always thought it was the small circle so I would always run up to other members that could benefit from it before casting it lmao
The good news here I would say is that before patch 6.4 (so like, a bit over a year ago), the radius was *only* half of what it is now, so at least running to the center of the room before using it was often recommended! ^^
@@CaetsuChaijiCh It’s honestly become so much more manageable and fun with the elimination of the card RNG. And cue the people who will scream at me for “advocating homogenization,” when I call accessibility a good thing
@raarasunai4896 eh, personally I like the damage cards being more predictable. I do find the defensive cards weird because it feels like being given rather tactical tools and then told "you have one minute to use them, now go!" 🤣
Thanks for the guide, I'm levelling AST and it helped me a lot. I was wondering if you could confirm something i read on discord: The arrow card seems to work well with scholars shields, as it boosts healing received. So, a boosted Scholar uses Adloquium, gets a boosted shield, and spreads it with Deployment Tactics.
Old Astrologian was actually the perfect fortune teller job. No one can predict the future, you just had to plan a separate opener for every possible outcome and pretend you knew that was going to happen all along, just like real-life fortune tellers.
Well yeah, real fortune tellers in real life do that exactly because it isn't possible! That is a really funny twist though! 😂 But in a fantasy world with magic, fortune telling magic surely would also work? 😁
How long have healers requested Piety rework? Right now it is basically the only stat to avoid in gear. Tenacity for tanks, on the other hand, was reworked somewhat for Dawntrail; while it still shouldn't be melded, avoiding it in gear is no longer necessary, as long as the gear has high item level.
Well tenacity was not reworked, it just got buffed so it is like 80% as good as determination! That does happen to have the same result, but yeah 😅 It would be nice if piety offered something more!
AST was my favorite job by far in EW, but I can't come to terms with the card changes in DT. They just don't feel good. I've shelved it for now. I'm hoping if I let it sit for several months, I'll forget enough about how it used to feel that I can approach it with a fresh perspective. I still consider the new cards pretty lame, I think, but maybe I won't mind as much!
That's fair. I do feel the biggest problem I have with the new cards is how they have the same sense of urgency that lady of crowns always had, causing me to often throw them out just so they're used, instead of thinking about it because you only have a minute for those defensive cards 😰
I actually got a question about potion. Is it a good idea to use it for healing? Like when you transition into bahamut from nael, there will be like 5 very hard hitting roomwide. I am thinking about using potion there stacked on top of sacred soil, dissipation, and fey illumination.
If they're an option you have access to, then potions are effective. Especially in lower level content. However, potions are considered "fixed" or "percentage based" healing and will not be affected by healing increasing effects! 😊
How is needing piety subjective? If you find yourself needing mp then aren't you doing something wrong or atleast not being as optimal as you could be?
Possibly. The problem is that sometimes cooldown timing differs between players. And ultimately, even IF you are doing something less than optimally, if you need more mp to do what needs to be done, then that means you, subjectively, need it. That's also why it really is about whether you've tried all other options! 😅 I hope that makes sense, because I imagine part of where you're coming from is "when does anyone need more piety" which also is a common thing 😊
I was ready for this one. Your 90 guide was also incredibly helpful for getting a feel for the abilities as ast has a lot of them. Your guides are the best!
Patch Notes since release of this guide:
7.1 Patch Notes:
Esuna is now instant to cast!
Gravity now is 8 yalms wide!
I can see it in the stars.... Another complete Cae guide delivered at lightspeed !
It's a (sun) sign! 😄
After coming back and beeing confused by the skills, this guide is awesome!
I'm glad to hear that! I also talk more about the new card systems and such in the 30-50 guide just in case you hadn't seen that one yet! 😄
Great guide as always! I'll be coming back as I Ievel astro higher. I'm really enjoying it so far!
That's great to hear! Thank you! 😄
Just came back to ffxiv after 8 years…. Things have changed 😂 I appreciate the videos!
Welcome back! I hope you find your footing with a job you enjoy! 😁

@iPlayOnSpica as long as oracle is used while buffs are still going then that's just as good 😁
2:10 and the nice thing about all of those is they're 60 seconds or shorter so they're there for every pull, usually.

Occasionally, the old habit of immediately drawing a card as soon as the duty's instance is loaded comes around... 😅
That one, and drawing again immediately after playing the first card too 😂
I’m only about 13 mil Exp from 100 Astro. That’s…pretty much just the Leveling duty roulette, so here comes Sun Sign tonight!
Yep that sounds about right! I hope you have fun mastering the job at 100!

Yes the arrow increases all healing received, meaning it would indeed affect a scholars adloquium cast too! 😊
