I have so much respect for you to volunteer your time to help young people learn the sport. It could be an amazing part of their life. Bravo to you dude.
My first resto-mod was a '96 Marin Muirwoods I turned into a gravel beast. Got inspired by your videos over lockdown and have been working on bikes since!
Not to knock on Marin, because they make awesome bikes, but how cool would it have been to partner w/a local bike company and build a pair of Fezzaris? But, kudos to Marin for stepping up and bringing more recognition to NICA and all the opportunities it provides for kids. This is my son’s 5th season, he’s riding JV as a junior on the Desert Hills team down in St. George. About halfway thru his first season, I realized he was having so much fun that I bought an older Trek hardtail, got my level 1 coach certification, and am having the time of my life helping coach these kids. Just love watching them develop from timid 7th or 8th graders to trail-shredding, confident athletes who leave this old dad in the dust. Thanks for doing this!
Marin is a great company. For people on a budget you don't have to send money for a bargain to China to help them conquer the globe, you can get great bikes from Indonesia. Thanks and all the best.
Yeah, when I received my Bobcat Trail recently, I realised some dude in Indonesia failed to install the bottom bearing in the headset, I had my dealer send me a replacement one 😊
Marin still make great looking bikes. The black frame / tan wheel thing never fails to impress. I must have rebuilt 5 of their old ones (Bear Valleys, Muir Woods) - all because of watching your videos. Thanks for my great new passtime :)
Our journeys are aligning - so happy to see this video. Our son will be a freshman this fall and will be doing Colorado’s version of NICA. I also will be volunteering as a coach. We picked him up a mint used Kona Honzo DL/AL, also with a Fox 34, and have been focusing on rides together this summer in that 10-15 mile race range. It’s been wonderful to get that time with him - I’m glad you’re able to do the same with your son. As always, I look forward to your next video!
@@oldshovel @davidwillis4223 I started a team near Raleigh, NC and was head coach for several years. Now with a couple small kids of my own I have had to step down to assistant coach, but truly one of the most rewarding things I have done in the world of cycling and beyond. Enjoy the journey and good luck to the kiddos next season!
I bought "back" a 92' Marin Eldridge Grade. It is my Teenage Love Bike .. and it was stolen after a few Weeks of owning. Now i am over 40 and on eBay with oncoincidence i stumbled over the exact same Bike, almost in complete OEM Spec (a "new" front rim Panaracer Dart in Front but timely correct enough) *and bought it back* . The first Love is a Soulbranding.
Purchased a Giant Talon 1 last year. At approximately half the cost of this bike, it is also a great way to get started if you're on a tighter budget. Edit: Sorry, it's the Talon 1 with the inhouse 32, fully adjustable air shock. Paid $1199 Canadian. A very capable bike for someone getting into the sport, who if they ultimately decide they are no longer interested in competition, they still have a great bike and perhaps more importantly $1500 tucked neatly away in their wallet!
I have a talon 0 and it has been a great bike. The deore drivetrain was well worth the extra few dollars. It does has a straight steerer though so not as upgradable as I’d like.
Truthfully this is something I’ve though too much about. I was originally thinking I would redo the paint completely but I really love the current paint job… I don’t have an answer yet but I do want to customize them.
I was really looking at this as my next bike, specially after the same hardtail party video referenced, but I also bumped into a lot reports of Team Marin frames breaking. I see you at least have one of the updated versions (the one with the bridge on the seat stays). I'm looking forward to an update video on the updated frame. Hope Marin solved the problem
It’s a pretty bike and if half of what Steve said is true, should be such an awesome ride. I hope they beat the bad rep they got for the frames cracking
It's awesome you have the time and opportunity to help out with the team. I wish I did, but schedule is always busy. At best I take my boy to one practice a week and attend the four races a hear, not including championship. Last I heard from the utah league guys at the races they said utah had over 7000 riders making it the largest in the states. It will be interesting to hear your point of view about the league and experience your having. I love hanging out at the races. My wife likes walking into the tents/trailers and looking for a t shirt or something for the boy and watching him race than she gets bored lol.
It’s because of first the winter and then the awesome bikes I’ve been rebuilding lately… I do have one I am just getting started on that will get paint, it was half spray painted by a kid before I bought it.
@@oldshovel yes. And I got the first redesign that also broke. Looks like you have the 2nd redesign. I got rid of my warranty replacement because I lost confidence in the bike by that point. I really liked the bike before the issues. Hopefully this latest design has finally fixed the issues.
My sister and my bother in law are coaches for the Mountain Ridge High School team down in Herriman. My 4 nephews and niece all ride for NICA and Mountain Ridge High School great organization.
Greeting from Indonesia, the homeland of the Team Marin 2....
🙌
Glad to see Marin coming back up. I have a Rift Zone one and it’s excellent for the money!
I know right. I think they’re doing some great things.
Blue pedals. My personal favorite upgrade. Well done!
Lol 😂 🙌

Thanks my friend
Been riding a Marin Muirwoods for 3 years now , awsome bikes, built like tanks.
Awesome

I did have them in mind but Marin was too on the list mainly for the team Marin 2 and the good range of well priced and spec’ed other models.
Congratulations! This is fantastic! 👏🏼❤️
I have a Marin Nicasio. Great company and prices.
Totally agree - awesome
I own a pinemountain 1 for bikepacking and riding around (gravel and some very mild trails) and I absolutly love it!
I’ve wanted to try a pine mountain
What a great initiative, and Marin supplied some nice bikes.
I rode a Marin Hawk Hill for two years, love the company and their bikes. NICA is blowing up and i am glad to hear you are getting involved.
Awesome
Awesome! Keep going
Thank you my friend
I bought my "bobcat trail 4" in 2021. Good bike! And u r doing the great job teaching children mtb! Hello from Ukraine!
Awesome 🙌
My first race mtb is a Marin Rocky Ridge in 1996. Happy for you bro 🙃
Awesome 🙌 thanks, I love those 90’s Marin’s
Great looking bikes congrats on the coaching and looking forward to updates 👍🏼
Thanks 🙏

those kids are going to get some great coaching and maintenances tips
Lol yep on the maintenance. Some of the other coaches know and the word it getting out…
Thanks for the video @oldshovel. loved the Team Marin 1. Incredible bikes for the money!
They’re awesome 🙌
Awesome! Looking forward to the rest of the series.
Thanks

Makes me think about my Marin Team FRS from back in 93, hard to beat back in the day. I miss that bike.
The old 90’s Team Marin’s have been on my hunting list for a long time…

🙌🙌🙌 thanks Sam! Looking forward to seeing you guys soon.
Enjoy the new bikes and nica racing

Great news. Look forward in perhaps seeing a Marin Pine dream build. Not many good steel frame builds any more. # SteelIsReal
The Pine Mountain does look like a cool bike.
Great video, the Marin is a great spec. Your right about the paint too 🙂
Thanks
Will you add some styling to the frame and fork? Just a bit, enough not to spoil this awesome mint paint job and fresh holographic decals.
Truthfully this is something I’ve though too much about. I was originally thinking I would redo the paint completely but I really love the current paint job… I don’t have an answer yet but I do want to customize them.

They both have a bridge, the medium has it right up against the seat tube and the large is a little further out.
Congrats! 🙂
🙌🙏
It’s a pretty bike and if half of what Steve said is true, should be such an awesome ride. I hope they beat the bad rep they got for the frames cracking
Agreed. With the two we got it appears they made changes, adding a bridge to strengthen the seat stays.
My first mtb was a trek 800
Awesome
Yeah I was on a difficult trail and broke the rear derailer of and the hanger off
The first thing I would do is upgrade the drivetrain to SRAM Eagle NX/GX/XX1. I never ride Shimano if I have a choice.

It’s awesome how big it’s getting here in Utah. NICA is a great organization.
I was today years old when I realised everyone in the Uk says ‘Marin’ incorrectly 😂
lol... I agree, is that how everyone else pronounces it? I always pronounce it "Maarin"

could you let us know the weight of the bike please ?

Awesome
Not a fan of Shimano gearing , but that’s a cool bike
What’s your preference 😁
@@oldshovel I have sram on Salsa Timberjack, other bike is a Single Speed
Love the channel, stoked about the series...but all I can see in that opening shot is how pale your hands are.
Lol 😂 it’s the glove tan from riding 😁
cassette size 46?
I think it’s 11-51
Looks like a bike I would pass on way to expensive
Marin are like the 3rd cheapest big brand these days
I sold my Marin San Quentin 2 to buy a Marin Rift Zone 1
Awesome
Dang I paid less for my truck
Great stuff! It's a shame we don't have anything like this in germany (europe?), our kids surely would appreciate the possibilities.
It is a great program
Congrats. Well deserved.
Righteous hardtail, is there any other kind 😎
Lol truth
