About drawing the lewis dot structures of atoms, can I always pair up the valence electrons if possible or should I draw them separately with 1 on each side and then pair up if there are more than 4 valence electrons.

Usually it shouldn't matter, but out of habit I try to pair up the valence electrons whenever I can.
