    Thank you for your time on the water and your willingness to make an informative video. Sure there is some excitement and comedic traits to your videos but that's why I choose to watch. The way you take the time to explain what you're doing is like being part of a fishing instructors zoom class. I have fished all my life but I still learn something new every time I tune into to you. Sorry for the long comment. You just keep being you. Until next time. Can I get a Whoo.

    Richard, I agree with you. There are times when a fish will hit live bait when you can't get them to hit anything else and hit it quick, too.
    I caught my personal best bluegill while crappie fishing with shiners. I was thought maybe the shiner I was using was too big for crappie and I catch a bluegill! Who would've thought.
    Thanks, Richard. When you show up, I go fishing. End of story.

    i was taught to hook them through the eye socket, from one side through to the other being careful not to hit his eye and blind him. it has always worked and the minnow did just fine. I'm gonna have to try the method of hooking them through the mouth though. but will probably stick with the eye method just because that's what my dad taught me and he has passed away a couple years back. so some things you do out of love. even if they may be a better way. i hope everything I'm learning from RG works on over at pickwick dam and lake area. ;)

    One of the best. Shows out there. Have you seen how 903 fishing, hooks his minnows on a number 2 Aberdeen hook?? I have starting hooking same way, and you can sometimes catch three to four crappie on same minnow, and hookup has been better and miss very few. Get excited always when I see a new piece of a show from yours. Ashland Kentucky up on the Ohio river.

    I believe up here in Michigan we have the same minnows, they call them fat head minnows. Used to get emerald shiners but can’t seem to find them anywhere. I use same hook but usually a small slip float and split shot. Through the ice I’ll use a tiny treble and small ice float, the float will quiver the slowly drop down the hole👍

      Locating them can depend on a lot of factors. Even in this video, because of the front coming in the crappie where somewhat scattered. I have a few videos on locating crappie depending on time of year, water temp and so on. I hope they can help and hope you catch a bigun! God bless and thank you for watching!

    I’ve learned so much from Richard’s videos. But I have a honest question: Can Richard go to an unknown lake, without electronics of any kind, fish the bank and still catch crappie? I have grown frustrated with ‘fishermen’ who catch fish with the crutch of electronics. That’s not fishing… that’s not a practice of applied knowledge through trial and error or fisheries biology to find and capture fish. It’s cheating.

    • @RichardGeneTheFishingMachine
      @RichardGeneTheFishingMachine  20 годин тому

      Yes of course! I have quite a few videos of me doing that in various bodies of water though I don't always specify that I've never fished in that location in a video. I rely mostly on my knowledge of fish and bait fish in areas to locate my target species. I also study patterns on my own lakes across the years. Maybe that would be a good video idea explaining how i would approach a new body of water and finding fish! God bless and thank you so much for watching!
