The trope of the fallen hero who has lost sight of who they are regaining their powers because a child believes in them is one I will never get tired of. Gets me every time.
Sun Wukong is no fallen hero at all. Before he lost his powers, he was a mischievous being who acquired immortality and basically fought against the armies of heaven. He assault and wreck havoc on heaven. Sun Wukong got so powerful that Buddha had to finally get involve. Sun Wukong was finally defeated and imprisoned by the great Buddha underneath a mountain with a mystical seal for five centuries. This is why he doesn't have his powers in this movie because of the seal. This movie's interpretation of Sun Wukong is a little different. He finally broke the seal and reveal his true power because he lost a friend which is the child. It's similar to how Goku became a Super Saiyan after losing his bestfriend Krillin in Dragon Ball Z. Sun Wukong felt the pain of loss and in turn was able to brake the seal and reveal his true self and power. In the novel Journey to the West, Sun Wukong was given a magical headband to keep him under control because he was such a trickster. For 500 years, Wukong lay immobilized beneath the weight of Buddha's mountain. Eventually, a traveling monk named Tang Sanzang found the Monkey King and offered to release him on the condition that he would repent and become the monk's disciple. During this time, Sun Wukong was still a trickster and mischievous being.

Lmao for real. Sun wukong was so grossly nerfed for 90% of this movie to balance things out, but a monster like hun dun would barely be a lieutenant for an actual strong monster like the 3 animal brothers. @@bendikok6619 it’s because in this movie, Sun Wukong still wasn’t released from the seal the Buddha trapped him under. The end was him getting restored to his former glory.

I just had a thought. I learned about chakras and how when they’re blocked, they can cause physical restraint. What if Buddha’s seal was symbolic for blocked chakras that caused sun Wukong physical restraint? There are seven chakras which are root: safety-stability-strength-survival, sacral: emotions-desires-creativity-self forgiving, solar plexus: power-will-self esteem, heart: peace-love-empathy, throat:self expression-communication, third eye: intuition-decision making-the surrender of egocentric intellect in favor of attaining nondualistic wisdom-enlightenment, and crown: detachment from ego and self realization. I think the ones he had to unblock was definitely root, sacral, crown, third eye, solar plexus since the negative attributes were ego/desires/insecurity/fear/guilt/low self worth/confusion/etc. because when he lost to the dark lord the first time and failed to save the baby girl and turned away from Luier saying “they’re not his problem” because he didn’t believe he could be the hero they deserve without his powers. When he tried and failed to break the seal that he fell unconscious into the water and found Luier’s Sun Wukong doll, gave him the realization to overcome his fear, self consciousness, failure, loss, self pity, desires etc. because when he remembered how Luier told the little girl “with sun Wukong here to protect us, we don’t have to be afraid”, he realized he didn’t need his powers to be their hero. He just needed to be there for them. Being a hero is about doing what’s right which he implied when he faced the dark lord once again “listen up! I am the monkey king, and I’m here to do what’s right”. And to put the icing on the cake, losing Luier is the most pain he’s ever felt in over five hundred years he’s been alive. Remember how he would be in so much pain after trying to break the seal, his face was twisted in pain and he would be so out of breath and even fell unconscious that one time. It had to be excruciating for him, but after he thought Luier was dead, nothing could be more painful which is why he was so physically numb to the seal’s restraint. Because the more you love someone, the more it hurts to lose them. He dropped to the ground for a second when he was breaking it and didn’t have to physically fight the seal as much this time, because he was mentally and emotionally fighting it until he found the will to finally break it. Because whatever imbalanced attributes you selfishly hold onto emotionally and mentally will block you physically. Wukong became motivated after losing Luier, because he was no longer doing these things for himself, he was doing it for Luier as well as the other children. I don’t know if I’m explaining this well. But anyway, this is why I love Wukong. He delivers that narrative promise and has the best character development.
well you can clear the seven chakras anytime but the problem is the root cause if you dont remove it even you cleanse your chakras everyday the root cause will make your chakras block again. the root cause is in the consciousness of a being even sun wukong has it. it will take a great realization to remove it because there is no magic formula for it that is the main purpose of his life in earth once you remove the root cause in your personality which is the main reason why his chakras are block you will also attain enlightenment in case of sun he got again his god state power

This might be against the message of this movie but since the bracer caused him pain each time he tried to wield his full power, it was at this moment he was in such emotional pain the discomfort of the limiter was paltry by comparison, giving him the conviction to fight through the pain and break the restraint.
The pain of the flesh can be unbearable and horrible, but it will go away. Phantoms and replays of that pain may happen but in time they will fade and heal like nothing given time.................................................. But the pain of the heart can never fully heal. Those scars will never go away. You may think you are fine, only to break to tears and pieces in days to come. You can only carry that anguish for the rest of your life, no matter how much time passes and how little it hurts to think about.

Story line is perfect. Everything is correlated and reasonable. I gave 5. This movie was better than some most Hollywood animation. . Waiting for Nezah 2.
I absolutely love the original Journey to the West story. I was so happy this movie got its funding. I'm proud of the studio that could make it happen.
I found this gem on Hulu and enjoyed every second of it.
2:27 friezaaaaaaaaaaaa
This is the anime where the character of son Goku originated??

That was the coolest way someone has ever put on a cape
The seal was like his self doubts or feelings of culpability for being the way he was, which hindered him.
This was Wukongs best design.
agreed
Black Myth: Wukong
Wukong is amazing bra he litterly went up to heaven to fight the gods and is still better than them
I remember when I first got introduced to this movie every since then I enjoy seeing the monkey King in action, especially the seeing where I thought the kid was killed, but thank God he wasn’t. He was just knocked out, but that’s when the monkey king himself a.k.a. son will come reimbursed out of anger not gonna lie I low-key shed a tear or two.😢
Jackie really nailed this voice here
I watche dthis when i wss like 5yo now i just found it again and im reminising every single scene that i loved in my head
Vegeta: what is his power level
Napa: ITS OVER 9,000
Vegeta: IMPOSSIBLE
Sun Wukong: that... is an understatement!
Pulling out staff from his ear is so cool
You know you’re strong when your blunt weapon become a long range slash attack
i started tearing up after watching this
I watched this at school, and when I saw this scene, I balled my eyes out.
I don‘t want to throw shade or anything, but Jackie Chan just ain‘t the right man to voice someone crying.
Actually, me and my brother while watching this were saying that Jackie Chan didn't tried at all while voicing this... As much as I love his movies and like him as an actor he didn't show any emotions or even tried.... Sucks, but still a great animated movie
They should’ve picked the guy who voiced samurai jack for wukong, he’d be perfect!!
who came from black myth wukong
i actually go find the old 1986 tv series opening theme actually but somehow find this
seem like a cool after story fan fiction
4 years later, this game is 10/10. If it doesn't win 2024 GOTY then the competition is rigged!
As an asian i have been watching son wukong since the beginning so every time they make a new movie... i feel so happy because the original son wukong film is da FUCKING BEST they made it with ONE MOTHER FUCKING CAMERA MAN only one camera man so its gonna take very long to film it all but somehow they did and all of the actor is old but they are still a LEGEND #iluvsonwukong
3:25 Yeeeah, there's my boy...
Just saw the trailer for the videogame. This looks amazing!
That flashback memory 😭😭😭😭😭he really love him❤️❤️❤️
This. This right here is the Great Sage Equal To Heaven, and he's *pissed.*

He rejected modernity and returned to monke, like, literally.
In china, where the story originally was made,he is the most powerful being among all gods.

And that's why they call him the victorious fighting buddha
when you think your fighting a mortal but in reality, a god that trancended the buddha and destroyed heaven in a few swipes of his staff.

i REALLY wish i knew what the name of that song was!
This was the first time I ever saw anything with monkey king and I thought he just didnt have any power and was just a old legend that grew with time.
Then this end came and I got chills and tears every hair on my body stood up during this scene.
