I saw this one in the theater back in 1981. If you saw it at the midnight showing they would totally crank up the ole Dolby Stereo! I was 19 and saw this a half a dozen times in the theater. I turned 20 a week after it came out. For that showing a buddy of mine that worked at the theater REALLY cranked it up! Look forward to to picking this one up!

Man, I was 13 when this came out. My mom didn't like me watching animated tata's so I don't remember much. I might have to pick this one up

Man, I first saw this in the theater in '81. I think I had to either have my brother be with me or I bought the ticket for another and snuck in to this one but it definitely hits me in the feels every time I watch it. I have watched it once a year since. I am usually a digital movie but this one is going to be a must have. I am so glad that the transfer and especially the atmos, went really well with this.

I got the steel book yesterday, and the atmos is off the chain, guess they didn't want to do the work for the 2000 version, which is bluray. Overall a decent addition to any collection

I saw Heavy Metal in the theatre (and I'm old enough to remember when they first started advertising the magazine in National Lampoon).
The movie is definitely a bit uneven but I enjoy it. My steelbook arrived yesterday but I hadn't watched the 4K disc yet. I'm glad to hear it's such a nice transfer. 👍

I bought the 4K as soon as it became available. This is the 4th time buying it and am pleased with the outcome and recommend buying it for everyone who enjoys real animation….

I am tremendously relieved Sony did not apply DNR. DNR ruins the viewing experience and animated films most often than not have noise reduction. Akira 4K was a big disappointment, shame Sony couldn't have done it themselves.

I’ve bought this film so many times since it came out official VHS. Had a bootleg before that for years. Would go see it at the Sick and Twisted animation festival whenever it came to town. This would always be shown.
Oh and I’ve watched it high on LSD and shrooms at different points. So worth it. I know some might look down on that but I can say it was time I spent I don’t regret at all. Especially with some of the company I got to watch it with at times. Prior service retired and doing fine mostly.

Crazy is Heavy Metal 2000: Fakk squareed has not been on Blu Ray. I could only find it on the short lived interim format DVD Super Byte.

Thanks for this review man, answered all my questions glad they didn’t decide to go hard with dnr that would have been a sad time.

Too bad they dropped Stevie Nicks’ “blue light’ from the soundtrack. Otherwise, this is a fantastic restoration.

It's missing the Stevie nicks blue lamp song when Harry Canyon brings the girl over his shoulder to the police station it's on the regular 5.1 and 2.0 soundtracks but the atmos track it's not there so I'll stick with the 5.1 soundtrack

  • @timecapsule5604

Ine issue is with the atmos track when he takes her to the police station over his shoulder there is missing music that is on the 5.1 and the 2.0 but not the atmos track so to me I'll take the 5.1

Love the music soundtrack, but the Bluray was 🗑. Glad to hear that the 4k is decent. I’ll have to check it out.

If a person like Heavy Metal music, they'll love the soundtrack in the movie, but for people who don't like nor listen to hard rock wouldn't find the soundtrack to Heavy Metal that impressive.

This is a cult classic, people act like it was a under ground film or something,I was watching this at 8 years old at my friend's house on vhs ordered it out of a magazine.

The dvd was good and the bluray had one bad transfer scene. Where the bald muscle guy dives into the water to save the babe. The scene turns too dark & grainy.

The steelbook does look really cool and those screenshots look very nice, but with some of the things I've heard about it I'm just not sure if this is the kind of film I would enjoy... Like it sounds to me as if it has a lot of intense violent and sexual content, which I am def not against in general but in this particular case, used in such a way that it sounds like personally I would not like it. I haven't seen it though so I guess I would have to give it a try and actually watch it for myself to find out.

Wish they would have released just the original in a standalone release. Instead of putting 2000 with it and charging 35 bucks.

Limited edition versions should come with extras. Wait for the regular release for just the movie. This is not cool to complain for collectors who want the most out of there movies. This is also the first time we have got the second movie on Blu-ray so it is a very good bonus.

    • @specialk4006
      @specialk4006 2 роки тому

Agreed. $35 is waaay too much for Heavy Metal, even in 4K with a steelbook. This release should've been $20... $25 MAX.
