I ADORE them both. Susan Graham is my other favorite Dido and I cried my eyes out when she did it. Sometimes it's hard to accept somebody else in a role when we think someone owns it. But I think they both give their whole soul singing this. They are different versions of that character but to me they're both fantastic. And I say that as someone who was/is obsessed with Graham's Dido. O b s e s s e d.
@@elna827 Then you understand my obsession. I thought her singing was so smooth, pitch perfect. Characterization superb, but the singing! Thanks for your heartfelt comment. TROYENS is an amazing work.
@@elna827 I saw the Met HD performance when Hymel made his thrilling debut as Aeneas. I immediately bought the DVD with Gardiner conducting. Graham, Antonnochi as Cassandra and Kunde as Aeneas. Astonishing performances throughout.
Sadly it doesn't look like it:/ This was almost three years ago so I think that would have happened by now. There was a video stream of the full performance but they never released it on DVD. However the video stream was really extraordinary I thought!
I don't have the first two acts with Cassandre sadly, only acts 3-5 and in the 5th act the beginning with Aeneas aria is missing. I can upload what I have though if you're interested.
Stunning. Berlioz's genius is fully matched by JD's extraordinary gifts and commitment. She gives us so much! 👍😃💕
Extraordinaire !!!!!!
Incredible what a voice, what expression
Une grande des grandes
Stunning! Wonderful Joyce,the best Didon!❤
❤❤❤Vull veure això a Barcelona 🙏🙏
Régine Crespin demeure inégalée dans ce rôle .
Very intense and mad
joice......maravillosa¡¡¡¡¡
Astonishing. I didn't thought she could sustain the big dramatic moments if this role, and use strong chesty tones.
I cannot get Susan Graham out of my mind. She IS Dido.

I absolutely understand. I have all three video streams of her Dido. Which performance did you see? Maybe I will upload her mad scene too.

I agree! Amazing performances, both of them. And the one from San Francisco was pretty stunning too. Glad you enjoyed them!!
Will this performance be released on DVD? From the looks of this clip, the performance--DiDonato's at least--was memorable.

C'est splendide, superbe et belle voix très intense mais la diction n'est pas top ! .... Même pour un francophone, c'est incompréhensible !
Didi is not mad - certainly not in the bel canto Lucia way. Di Donato is chewing up the scenery in a manner quite alien to French Grand Opera.
Sorry but no.
