#transformers #optimusprime #megatron #petercullen #frankwelker #80s
About this video: I wanted to include the War for Cybertron and the Fall of Cybertron scenes, but I figured it'd be OK if I didn't. I got every important and wise quote from Optimus I could, including;
"There's a thin line between being a hero, and being a memory."
"Every sentient being possesses the capacity to change."
"Freedom is the right of all sentient beings."
"'Till all are one."
And most importantly, "I'm going to turn into a truck now. Brch church cha chuck-a-ding-ding, chrch. Pack it up, pack it in, let me back in."
Jokes aside, I love Optimus Prime, and I figured I should give him a tribute in some way.
Fantastic response! ^^ ""Be Strong Enough To Be Gentle"" Is my personal favorite line of his.
Given that the X for Cybertron games are fucking awesome, and the Live-action Transformers films are hot garbage, no, it's not okay that you did that.
Thank you for this lovely tribute. 😊
Consider doing a remix of this video, adding WFC/FOC from the video games, my friend.
I also really like:
“Hang on to your dreams. The future is built on dreams.”
Well… there is a reason why everyone loves him more than actual Hollywood heroes… and I understand that now
He was made during the golden days of Marvel, that's why 😂.
also doesn't hurt that he's a bigass robot who turns into a truck and stuff that's pretty cool.
@@vadernation1233that part's the bonus. Optimus Prime is what I would say is a strong example of a hero in media.
@@JOfJaZ true. The robot truck thing is what makes him an iconic character, the personality and optimism is what makes him a great character.
Whatever Optimus turns out like after Transformers One, I hope Peter can look at him and see Larry in him.
Till all are one
I hope Chris Hemsworth knows about the strong enough to be gentle story
@@researcherchameleon4602I heard that he was getting help from Peter to get the voice right, so he probably will get that part of Optimus.
I bet he already does.
@imeverywhereandnowhere56 What I know is that at least, he's not voicing Orion Pax(Young Optimus), Chris Hemsworth is the voice actor of Orion Pax. Maybe, just maybe, Peter may voice Optimus Prime flashforwards scenes in the movie. I am not 100% sure.
"If you cant picture your Optimus as being strong enough to be gentle, you are not writing Optimus, you've written a homicidal Megatron in a truck costume."
bayverse prime be like
@@blox_buildz good joke
@@blox_buildz I mean it definetley had it's flaws, but I still think for what they did, it made sense why Optimus turned out the way he did.
'Cause lets break it down. Optimus' story before going to Earth is likely exactly as it was in the main Transformers canon. He and Megatron had this HUGE drawn out war that ravages their home planet to the point where EVERYONE is on one side or the other, fighting over what little resources of Energon they have left. And they fight for years. Having to be the strong leader, always making sure to have a level head and look out for others, must be taxing. And then we get to the second movie, Optimus has been training ever since they won in the first movie, so he's READY. The surprise that Megatron is alive doesn't really faze Optimus, just pisses him off, likely because he thought he was free from megatron at the end of movie 1. A trailer full of weapons, training on how to use them, and to top it all off he has the advantage over Megatron because Megatron isn't used to his new bulkier and slower body. He gets Megatron alone in the forest, kicking his ass the whole way there, until Decepticons come to back up 'ol Megs. Then they start beating on Prime, and Megatron literally sends him flying with a canon shot. Up to that point, because of Optimus' sense of mercy, he wasn't going all out. Even when he was fighting Megatron alone in the forest before Grinder and Starscream show up, he wasn't. It isn't until that moment when he spits, that he realizes it's do or die time. Protect Sam and get out of there, by any means. He drops his mercy, and goes full on Murder-blender on them, killing Grinder. And even after all that, still gets stabbed and killed by his oldest enemy, who he thought he was free from, in front of Sam. In Optimus' last moments, he learns he failed. The worst thing about being the hero who sacrifices themselves for others, is never learning whether or not your sacrifice actually meant something.
So yeah, when he is brought back, he changes. Changes to the point where doesn't hold back anymore. He fights with just as much desperation to win and ferocitiy as the Decepticons do. Death shakes him to his core, and changes him forever, as I think death would because death does change people. Whether it be us experiencing death from losing a family member, or being someone who is declared clinically dead but brought back, it changes you. It has to.
@@CephalonAxii goddamn, all of that for a meme?
but seriously, I get it, bayverse prime was the way he was for a reason. He’s an army commander, and has been fighting against the enemy for years, and has probably been through some tough times on Cybertron, and definitely on earth, especially the humans being dicks in rotf and aoe. that’s how prime turned to the dark side
@CephalonAxii and then he basically resurrects his mentor in DOTM, but then that mentor not betrays his brothers, but he betrays the ideals he taught Optimus, then thanks to that fight in Chicago humans start hunting Autobots despite all the Autobots did for earth, Bayverse Optimus isn't a psycho, he's just Batman
Peter is the voice of Optimus and Larry is the spark
This is worded perfectly

For the little we've seen, I feel he's actually doing a solid job. He sounds young and inexperience, which is obviously the point, but he still has the glints of the Prime we love.
I certainly believe it. I bet we'll get a "learning to be Prime" moment that mimics Cullen's gentleness.
He also gave another good saying which has stuck by me since I first heard it… “Gentleness is not leniency. It is the absence of cruelty in discourse, and the use of compassion in judgement.”
Was that from Peter Cullen or Optimus Prime? id like to know where the original quote is from i wanna use it
@@natereath4966 It was from Peter Cullen. He was meeting with a fan at a convention who asked him to give a quote in the voice of Optimus. So I guess it’s up to you to decide if it was from the human legend or the robot legend lol.

Optimus is so pure he can melt the space racism out of a 40k fan.
A leader like Optimus was someone that GrimDark world desperately needs especially for humanity
The closes person that was like Optimus in 40k was Sanguinious. A leader, a warrior, and someone that can inspire billions to rise and fight no matter the odds.
@@barrydalton4743 Sanguinious would have been a great leader perhaps even better than the emperor after the heresy if only he wasn't a fanatic loyalist like all other Imperialists as well as having the racism, if he thought for himself he would be even better and won't tolerate the cruel policies and corruption in the imperium
It's not Racism-thst word is overused. It is well justified hatred of the Alien.
If beings from another world want to wipe out or enslave or devour all of humanity, then strong negative emotions are absolutely warranted.
Aside from Sanguinius, I could also see Commander Farsight as the equivalent of Optimus in 40k

@@diobrando1253 I just remembered Metro Man from Megamind
the whole time at the start i was thinking, "hey peter cullen's impression of his brother sounds kinda like Optimus prime."
then he said that larry cullen's voice was the inspiration of his optimus prime voice
Megatron's greatest asset was always his confidence: when he takes the field to command you, you will be more afraid of him than of the enemy.
Optimus Prime's greatest asset was his empathy: When he takes the field to command you,
You fear nothing.
You said it and said it right. Respect.
It makes me happy, that you truly understand.
Imagine them working together, the fearsome megaton ordering the bombardment of the enemies with optimus keeping the allies morale high
This makes me more excited for transformer 1
Fear might take you into the battle
but love
you will die for the love.
"Megatron must be stopped, no matter the cost."
When a normal character says that kind of line, they're talking about the civilian cost, the collateral damage, or giving up the moral high ground.
When Optimus Prime says that line, he's talking about the personal cost, what he's willing to bear for everyone else who can't.
Optimas Prime easily the " Dad" of so many 80s kids
Optimus is Grandpa he is old cybertronian, father would be ultra magnus
@Jazzys.Prime.Chilling.Time127 not for us 80s kids but I feel ya
Even the 2000s
I was born in 2001 and I loved the transformers movie the original one just classic
He was actually there for one. Didn't 80s parents need to be reminded they had kids?
The idea that the voice of Optimus Prime was created purely out of love.
Words of wise love from one man, and the love one brother to another.
That’s what makes Optimus Prime so iconic.
He may have been structured a hero- but the man behind the voice gave him a soul. And he made it a wonderful one.
One of the best quotes I’ve heard:
“It’s better to be a warrior in a garden rather than a gardener at war”
The irony of Prime being my favorite fictional character growing up and then me joining the Marine Corps WITHOUT ever having heard this story. Even more ironic is the fact that I didn’t do well in the Marines because, like Prime, I believed that violence should be a last resort, not a first. I wasn’t the screaming, idiot leader they wanted because Prime was my golden standard. I hope I can meet Mr. Cullen and shake his hand before he goes.
I'm suprised that's how your story played out but all the more respect to you for standing by your morals and not letting the men in high chairs shake you from doing what a true soldier does, thabk you for your service, wherever you are from, we need more armymen who instead of blindly listening to those in power stay steadfast in their morals
"be strong enough to be gentle"
bayverse prime: your head will make a fine addition to my collection
He's doesn't collects them. Just throws away so recklessly 😂
Bayverse Prime comes across as a fierce protector: Gentle and compassionate with his friends and comrades, fierce and ruthless against anyone who threatened them. I don't personally like the Bay films, but that's basically the definition of 'strong enough to be gentle' to me.
@@pranavghantasala6808Well the Bayformers have a darker cynical tone anyways so a more brutal Optimus makes sense. And honestly barring some of the goofier moments (GIVE ME YOUR FACE), I get the impression this Optimus has seen so much death and suffering from Cybertronians and Humans alike that he won't hesitate to end someone intent on causing more suffering. Case in point, him executing Sentinel Prime.
That being said killing Megatron at the end of 3 was a dick move, Optimus.
@pranavghantasala6808 give me your face

I wonder how many people will notice the Man of Steel soundtrack in the background
A wise choice considering the status Optimus Prime and Superman hold
Who cares it works
What do you mean in the background?
@@Joey_jrhe did not say otherwise. Always assuming the worst is a terrible way of thinking.
Classic Superman and Optimus deserve this kind of theme more than Snyder Supes
Just as iconic as Kevin Conroy’s Batman, Mark Hamil’s Joker and Josh Keaton’s Spider-Man.
Man of Steel music for Optimus? Perfect.
1:31 it was on that day, that a hero and father figure to many was created
And his name was Optimus Prime
This is why Optimus is so beloved today. Because in reality he was always more than just a toy commercial, people put enough heart and soul into the work for it to transcend it's origins and become a staple of not only pop culture, but of heroes in general
To think this whole thing started because Hasbro wanted to promote some gimmicky toys they made. Now said gimmicky toys are a staple of the industry, as well as what they represent.
@kingcamelot1395 I fully believe if the artists weren't as into it as they were, from the designs to the voice acting, then it and the toys themselves would have flopped.
@@FourthIdentity-gu2zk Oh yes. Hasbro's only interest was selling toys and making money. They only had to do the bare minimum to make that happen. But because the creators went above and beyond, they are still selling those toys to this day.
"be strong enough to be gentle" goes hard
Optimus and Superman are like the father from the parable of the prodigal son.
"i am going to turn into a truck now, birch church a cha chaka ding ding church, pack it up pack it in let me baguette"
best optimus line by far
"Be strong enough to be gentle"
*proceeds to annihilate decepticons left and right*
Nah but optimus prime is such a good hero character, probably my favourite of that genre. The line "megatron must be stopped, no matter thf cost" sums him up so well. He's a reluctant warrior who fights *for* others rights, not to oppress them. The fight is necessity, not a choice.
To be fair, those Decepticons give him very little choice in the matter. They repeatedly make it clear that they will never stop hurting innocents unless they're made to stop.
I like to think of gentleness as strength governed by love rather than an inability or unwillingness to use strength. You can't truly be gentle if you lack either power that could hurt those you value or value for others that compells you to direct what power you have, be it physical or otherwise, for their good.
I keep remembering that one scene in Transformers Prime where Optimus offers to Raphael to bring a snowball to him back to base from the Arctic since he can't come because of the extreme weather, and that is one of my all time favourite scenes of Optimus in any Transformers media, because it perfectly encapsulates and demonstrates who Optimus is at his core - a hero, a leader, a father figure to many, and an icon with his unshakable convictions about life and peace. I like to believe that that one scene was one of Peter's favourites to voice over from that series. 😊🤩😍
“And I have the courage to make the right decision” goes SO hard
Be “strong” enough to be “gentle”
-Captain Larry Cullen
Optimus is my childhood hero, my comfort character
When I’m in a bad spot (happening a lot at the moment), when I feel hopeless, when I feel like giving up, I have trouble thinking positively.
So I ask myself:
“What would Prime do?”
Even when the odds are a hundred to one, even when defeat is inevitable, even when there appears to be no hope, Optimus KEEPS FIGHTING.
I know I’m not as strong as Prime… I’m just a human with lots of mental and physical health problems.
But Optimus Prime taught me from a very young age that if you just keep trying, just keep fighting, eventually you’ll make it through.
And sometimes, the best way to help yourself is to help others. Every day I strive to help someone, even in the smallest of ways. Because that’s what Prime would do.
A friend of the Autobots once said "Nobody's ever truly disabled as long ss they have hope"
Hope some of yall younger folk now understand why we love some of the original characteristics of the original transformers
Especially Optimus Prime
Optimus Prime, is such an Amazing Example of a Good Leader, that in the Special Episode that was released for Galaxy Force, where each Prime of the Previous Series Showed up, the Prime that they Respected the Most, was G1 Prime, in other Words, Optimus Prime
As a child I loved Optimus because he was the face of a franchise I love, now though, I want to be Optimus, I see the strength to life someone else up, to hear wicked words against you, let them slide away, and try to find some form of common neutral decency... it is the kind, firm hand that leads, that instructs, that inspires, as opposed to bossing, scolding, and belittling
@@soundwavesuperior7522
Well said
I grew up watching the original g1 on videos. Nothing beats the classics.
Actually this years Transformers one movie is what got me into this franchise, just this week actually. Optimus already has all my respect, I'm really excited to delve further into it
By the way if you haven't watched the movie I think you should, for the record I'm not a kid, I only learned about the movie after classiman D mentioned how terrible the marketing for the movie was for how good it us
Five minutes of hearing Optimus Prime talk got me ready to go fight a Decepticon
Optimus Prime was True hero and Prime for everyone and everything
And this why Transformers fans love Optimus Prime. The REAL Optimus Prime😎
In one of the TF Prime episode where team Prime have to bring Starscream as prisoner, he said that whatever intel Starscream had can be valuable (to team Prime) to which Bulkhead asks if Optimus gonna let him in, with exposing the secrets of team Prime's base, joining Prime's team, and all that
To which Optimus said "however unlikely that scenario, every sentient being deserve an opportunity for redemption"
Arcee interjects, asking if that also applies to other bots who killed others like Airachnid.
He resumes with "without that hope, we may never achieve lasting peace"
He aware that even someone as evil as Starscream or Megs, he still saw that there's a chance for them to redemption or even a change, like what Prime said at the end of that movie (Beast Hunters). He address concerns when Ratchet cooking some syntethic Energon, even tho they're running low and he saw the boost/effects, he questions Ratchet's decision and how it could impair one's judgment
He comforts Arcee when he saw she had score to settle with Airachnid. He said that "it was physical wound that heals the quickest..." and told her that wisdom cant be achieved willy nilly, but you must earn it, even sometimes there's a cost to pay. "Wisdom cannot be granted Arcee, it must be earned. Sometimes, at a cost."
Never knew how much I needed to hear Man of Steel theme with Optimus Prime clips till now.
We owe it all to people like Captain Larry Cullen and Peter Cullen aka THE Optimus Prime
Optimus is the real meaning of positive masculinity..that's why he is my hero since childhood till now...😭😭😭
*Teary-eyed* Peter Cullen has seen me and others like me through some dark times. He is the only reason I made it from the beginning to the end of this desired year.
Not only does he give me the strength to embrace a New Year, but a new day.
If there was one Human Being I could take with me into the New Year, it would be Peter. He carries his brother's (Larry's) sense of calm composer and positive optimistic energy.
He is the most wonderful Human Being I have ever known.
Whatever happens in 2025, Peter Cullen, Sir, I wish you a Happy New Year, Good Health, and never stop providing your Voice of Optimism.
The last ten seconds of this video really moved me. They just really brought it all full circle. Like that’s really what Optimus Prime is all about.
Voice of optimus prime, with "An ideal of hope" playing in the background. Just perfect.
Even if bayverse prime may be a psycho but he still cares and man that shows just how caring optimus can be at his worst
I mean that whole fight was to protect Sam from forces trying to hurt him. I'd do the same for those I care for, even if it meant I got hurt.
I think that makes him seem a bit more genuine, at least isolated withing Bayverse and not compared to other Optimus Primes. He's a violent warrior and clearly harbours a grudge in later films but that compassion and belief that everyone is capable of change makes him compelling in a different way. His speech about Cybertronians and humans not being so different felt genuine because it came from a literal million year old war veteran who knows from experience
It's amazing how Larry ended up being a big reason Transformers went from a toy commercial to an iconic franchise with emotional stories. Thank you for your service, Larry. @@patrickdees5256 No, brother... You ain't the only one.
You're not alone
In a world where we look for the grey in media, to see bad mixed with the good and vice versa, it's important that we don't forget the importance of Paragons.
Grey shows us that we are not perfect, and it is okay that we are not perfect. We all have faults. But Paragons, like Optimus Prime, set a standard for what can be. What we should strive to be, every single day.
Without paragons, we'll just be okay being what we are. We won't strive to be more than what we are. Every single one of us, each day, has the opportunity to be a little bit more.
Whenever I think of a hero rising, I think about this theme
And that is how one of the most legendary heroes of all time was born
I always figured that the reason why Peter didn’t like the bay version of Optimus was because of how violent he was compared to how he should be, but with the information that he hears his own brother’s voice in Optimus adds a whole new layer.

And that's the thing. That's why Bayverse Prime didn't click in the end. Bay's take on Prime forgot how important it is to be gentle when you have power.

That was beautiful, Mr. Peter Cullens.
I’m an adult now, like literally just became one and for some reason I’m really into Transformers all of a sudden 😭, but there’s something about it that just fascinates me. The characters, the messages delivered, and most of all.. Optimus. He is so different from most heroes in media we see. He is this huge robot who’s got monstrous strength and these deadly weapons of war.. but he is so unfathomably kind and truly wise. The REAL kind of wise, someone who isn’t arrogant, someone who really wants to help others through something, someone who has a giant heart despite being made mostly of metal.
Optimus is the ideal figure for a leader and what they should be. Kind, wise, deeply sympathetic, selfless, he is without a doubt one of the best characters in fiction, and he inspires me as of today, and he, and mostly his voice actor Peter Cullen, make me strive to be someone better.
This story exemplifies exactly what's missing from every new version of Prime. God bless Larry!
The current comics are nailing Optimus perfectly. You can hear Peter's voice in your head as you read his lines.

I’ve never been a huge Optimus prime, for many reasons mainly because I gravitate towards Megatron more at least certain versions of him,But despite my views growing up I’ve always tried live by the character standards. More often than not everyone has toxic views of what strength or power really is,but Peter Cullen Optimus taught me too strength comes from having the strength to be gentle and to be kind to others even your worse enemies Optimus prime just one those characters that’s so easy to quote because it’s never one dimensional or self centered much it’s about life lessons and messages of hope in our darkest ours that’s why I’ll always respect and idolize him
Nature, nurture heaven and home
Sum of all, and by them, driven
To conquer every mountain shown
But I've never crossed the river
Braved the forests, braved the stone
Braved the icy winds and fire
Braved and beat them on my own
Yet I'm helpless by the river
Angel, angel, what have I done?
I've faced the quakes, the wind, the fire
I've conquered country, crown, and throne
Why can't I cross this river?
Pay no mind to the battles you've won
It'll take a lot more than rage and muscle
Open your heart and hands, my son
Or you'll never make it over the river
It'll take a lot more than words and guns
A whole lot more than riches and muscle
The hands of the many must join as one
And together we'll cross the river
The humbling river,
What a beautiful song!

Optimus Prime was a pretty major father figure to a lot of young men (and girls) growing up. He was and is a constant reminder of what we can be.

"Hang onto your Dreams, The future is built on dreams.." - Optimus Prime
One of my favorite quotes, i try to live by every single day
I love that advice, it hard to be gentle in this world.
Optimus Prime is one of the few characters who has been the example of a true hero throughout all his iterations
Star man the song fits so well both Superman and Optimus prime, they will alway watch us from the sky and when all hope is lost they will come to save the day
"Freedom is the right of all sentient beings."
That line fits his character well. Cause even though Optimus is pretty soft spoken, when the chips are down, he is a MENACE on the battlefield. Completely ruthless.
Words I can live by " be strong enough to be gentle "
Optimus wasnt just a soldier, but a true leader, and a father to many
Peter Cullen needs his own movie
This video had me tearing up, till the end where I just burst out laughing! 😂
“I’m going to turn into a truck now!”
-Optimus Prime
"Be strong enough to be gentle"
*shows montage of Optimus kicking the shit out of his enemies*
He's gentle when he needs to be lol
Don't take it out of context

I promise to be a prime
I wish Superman had the same effect on people Optimus Prime has. They seem to roll their eyes at Superman, but not with Optimus, even though both of them share many similarities.
Let's hope Superman: Legacy change people's views on Superman's character for good!
@PedroLucas-mg5je I second that!
I cannot imagine anyone epse as the voice of Optimus other than Mr. Peter Cullen. What a magnificent voice you have, sir. You are simply amazing.
I strruggle everyday with such words .. whats the point in being kind .. when there are thousands of razors cutting you .. by the same poeple you care you
Being kind isn't the same as turning the other cheek, my friend. There's nothing dishonorable nor contradictory about standing up for yourself.

Some people think that bayverse Optimus isn't gentle but he is bro even in the comics he's gentle it's just that this version is more serious because I don't know it's a war bro and despite all the crappies been through he still value human life which is why he is one of the best
