love watching your progress man, super inspiring!
I’m glad you find it inspiring!!! Really hyped to hear you say that! Let me know if I can help you in any way!🙏🏽🙏🏽
Nice job man! I've been skating for a almost 15 years now always wanted to learn BS airs but had my fair bit of hang ups trying them. I've landed a couple between the years but I still don't have them on lock.
But I won't give up, seeing you landing and watching that progression gave me more motivation to work harder. Thank you!
Just landed a rock n roll today. That was the trick I wanted to learn before winter hit. It’s been nicer out which is weird for Pa in February. I think I’m going to take advantage of this nice weather and start working on airs.
You worked hard for that! 🎉
This is my dream trick ever since I started skating 3 years ago at 25. I’ll get it some day👍
Thank you!!! I definitely did!! You definitely got it!!! One day they will just click, but definitely keep practicing them every chance you get!!!! You got this!!
Good thinking, giving trick tips while you learn it! You got great energy. I hope to see more on vert.
Congrats on the backside air - nice video, good tips, and great look at that vert ramp. I’ve been eyeballing it for a while, hoping to get up to the city to try it out soon!
Lets gooooo! Going to try some judos just standing in my apartment and then give the airs a shot! Gonna need to get those tail scrapes down good!!
Definitely do the Judos standing up!! Practice putting that finger pressure to hold that board to your foot!!! You definitely got those tail scrapes!!! Send me more videos if you need 1 to 1 help man! I’ll tell you anything I can 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽. Keep on killing it!
Nice video! Thanks for sharing I will try that!!
Glad you like it!!! Definitely let me know how it goes💪
Great video. Very helpful
Glad you thought so! If you need any extra tips let me know and I'll be glad to help!🙏
Mad progression! Nice pointer about the judo as I have issues with my back foot floating a fair bit. I'll definitely give that a crack for sure!
Thank you so much! Hyped you stood long enough in the video to see it! Send me your clips on Instagram if you have of you trying it and I could give you some more tips! You definitely got it! Austinsk8NYC
They're looking good! Hell yeah
Thank you man!! I’m going to learn how to take em a lot higher next, but I’m hyped to have them like this for now! Next is front side 🤫🤫🙏🏽
Sick man you got it!
Ayyyy thanks you so much!!!
Well done and thanks for the tips. Need to go back to a other video first
You definitely got it!!!! Key is to start them small and don’t be afraid to hit into the coping!! (I still get nervous) haha. DM me on Instagram any videos of you learning it so I can give you accurate tips to help you out!!🙏🏽
And thank you as well! Appreciate the support!!
5.00am here🇬🇧 going to skate a vert ramp this evening. Aiming for some fs and bs slash grinds. If I get the courage maybe a drop in, its quite a big vert ramp at 12ft 6".
12:20 am here it NYC! You definitely got it! If you can slash you can 100% drop in! If I can give you some advice. Stay low when dropping in! The lower you stay when bending your knees, the easier the ride down will be. If you don’t bend your knees and you lean to far forward, you can fall and have a bad day..
Just stay nice and low!
I know It’s easier said than done!😂. There is a 13ft at my local park I Haven’t dropped in yet haha. If you drop in, let me know and I’ll film a video and do the same 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽. Enjoy the shred and keep me updated!! Thanks for the support!🙏🏽
@@AustinSK8NYC where is the 13’ local to you? I thought the 8’ at substance was the only vert in nyc. We have 12’ at Greenport way out East.
@@robertborden2666 there’s a new bowl there making at riverside Skatepark by my place in Manhattan! I believe it is a 13. Not finished yet, but finished enough to drop in 😈🙏🏽
@@AustinSK8NYC a bowl, so concrete and that large? Whoa. 😬🤕. I thought Chelsea looked crazy big.
just started grabing my nose on the kickturns im going like a board below the coping for now but its still on vert so ill try to commit soon
Love the skating and the t shirt man. I grew up listening to the Gorillaz
Keep it up I don’t watch all these vids but they are sick
I appreciate the comment and support!!! Thank you!! Gonna try to keep going higher and higher 💪🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Yo the editing on this vid is smooth
Yooo I’m trying my best that means a lot honestly! Let me know if there’s any way I could improve 💪🏽🙏🏽
The old man says cool!!
😂😂🙏🏽🙏🏽 thank you!! Hope you are doing well man!
@@AustinSK8NYC surfing in the morning skating at night, retirement is underrated
Hope I can join that lifestyle with you soon one day!!!!!🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Alsoooo, is that a Robert sticker 👀👌🏻
Soon soon soon!!!!
great work man. but a bit of actual vert would really make this easier too trust me that ramp looks like it has two inches. vert makes all this easier, a foot at least
hey thanks for the Video!! ive been trying to scrape the tail but i always end up scraping my toes.. any advice for me? did that happen to you too at one point ? I thought maybe because i dont have a round tail but squared!? thanks in advance..
Hey I had this problem when I was first learning. You might be hanging off your foot too much off the tail of the board. Your whole foot wants to be on the tail and your toes should be in the back pocket if anything. Practice scraping the tail like this and grabbing your nose like a kick turn. You definitely don't want to hang your foot off to much.. If you want to send pictures of your foot positioning. DM me on Instagram Austinsk8NYC and I can help you more indepth!! Let me know if this helped :)
@@AustinSK8NYC Thank you!!
Great video and good job, any tips for keeping your back foot on your board so it doesn’t dangle behind you ? This happens to me all the time … when you say learning judo are you meaning on flat first ?
Thanks! Hyped you liked the video! Yup! That exactly what I mean! Learn how to hold judo on flat ground first. Practice using your fingers to press the board into your back foot. The other tip I can say to help with your back foot is definitely suck your front knee in more and don't worry to much about sucking your back foot in on your way up into the air. It will start to bend more naturally on your way back down. My last tip is to really make sure you have a solid scrape into that copping. The more you hit that coping on the way up, the more the board will stick to your feet :)
Also, if you have Instagram, send me a DM of you trying some so I can help you more! @austinsk8nyc
Thanks man that makes sense to use my fingers to press against my back foot I’ll try that thanks!
I’ll add ya on Instagram and send yea if I’m still not getting it thanks
Dude wanted to say I finally figured out this trick ! figured out how to keep my back foot to the board by using the technique you mentioned by using my fingers to press the board back to my foot! it almost feels like a "hand/finger bs ollie" on transition. Where its the same motion as a bs ollie but you use your finger/hands to do the work! Gonna keep practicing it on small to medium transition then take it to vert thanks again dude!
Congrats 🎊 🥳 great job 🌊🚀🛹👊🏼🤙🏼 Question for ya… 🙋🏻♂️is the “hop” you describe a slight tap & scrape or scraping ollie at, on, &/or through the coping?
The more I do the trick the more I realize why it’s tough for people to learn and to explain lol
It’s definitely not a Ollie or a scraping Ollie. When you do it on vert or some ramp close to vert. It’s like a tap and scrape. The hop itself is you slightly ( I mean very slightly) pushing yourself off the wall on the way up. You want to scrape and push your wheels/tail into the coping. It’s definitely a scrape and not really an actual Ollie motion.
My best example is if you ride over a sidewalk crack on a skateboard. Your body jumps and your wheels hit the crack and makes the board pop up to your feet. You don’t Ollie over sidewalk cracks. You just slightly hop over them.
Same thing applies on the ramp. You scrape and hit your wheels into the coping with a small side walk crack kind of hop. Grab the nose and enjoy the ride!
Did that answer your question? If not I can go over it in more detail. Send me some of your attempts trying it on my Instagram AustinSK8NYC and I’ll be happy to give you some more tips on what your doing💪🏽💪🏽🙏🏽
Also thank you!!! Been working on them for a bit 💪🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽.
@@AustinSK8NYC Thx man 👊🏼 I’m close sooooo close, been at it for 11months & I have worked through, and earned myself, three injuries 😩 in the process.
Here are some of the thoughts that go through my head when attempting them:
Go straight up the wall, tap, scrape, push off of the coping, & grab/hold close to your heel. Once the back wheels/tail bonk/clack/tap you go up⬆️, before turning, & you suck up your back leg, stay in a ball & take everything (up and through the turn) with you. This includes your body/the judo grab/your board/& feet and turn/carve in.
Scrape the tail (prime for a push off/bump away from the wall/coping) & position your rear foot flat across the tail, give a light pressured tap/scrape off the coping while going up the wall. This position helps keep your foot on the board as you bonk through. The tail is literally resting on your inner foot as you go up, tap, & and scrape through the coping, grab as you scrape near the coping. Get a good solid grab by looking over the coping at your nose when you grab and press your board onto your feet like a judo hold, then after bonking, sucking in, & airing turn in for the landing. The landing part is kind of intuitive and just happens for me.
I really need to go a little faster than normal and send it a little more each attempt till I’m out. Of course I’ve been able to do some but it’s not consistent. I do consistently get three wheels over, so if I went a little farther and a little straighter up 🥅
One of the injuries had me pretty bad off for eight weeks so I’ve got some mental fear to work through as well; I do not want to get hurt like that again.
Thanks so much for your 1st response; it makes sense, let me know if there’s anything you think I should change from what I’ve written here & thx again for your help!
@@TheHairyDurdles it pays to play as much as it pains me to write that. I always view it as who are we entering this sport not wanting to get hurt when millions of people suffered making and learn al the tricks we know today hahah at the same time… I HATE GETTING HURT AND DO EVERYTHING IN MY POWER TO AVOID IT HAHA.
That same thing happened to me except it took me out for 4 and a half weeks learning this trick. My knee still hurts to this day if I do to many knee slide haha.
But in fact there’s one thing I would change in your mind set. Well 3 things… 1 of them is a change and the other 2 are additional tips
1st thing most important: change your back foot sucking up into that wall motion that was my problem for the longest and what kept me from landing them consistently. The one thing you should mainly be tucking in is your front knee into your chest. Let you back foot scrap up but try to keep it glued to the back of the board.
We have the natural tendency to bring that back foot up closer to us when we suck up our knees, but you want to kind of keep it straight with a slight bend. Only when your on the way back into the ramp on your decent is when you bend your back leg so gravity will suck the board to your feet while you get ready to land.
It may be hard to in-vision this tip but once you fly above coping you will definitely understand what I mean.
My second two tips are…. Speed is your friend with this trick be confident in your abilities. The higher up you want to go, the slower you need to do these motions. Slower scrape/bonk and slower body rotation.
Secondly as most importantly, relax. As much as you can. Try to relax when doing this trick. You will feel the fluidity the motion has and you will get better at them!
Other than that you are spot on! Please send me the make because I know next session you got it!!💪🏽💪🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
@@AustinSK8NYC Thanks man I totally get what you’re saying and these additional tips are straight up 💰💰💰
I think I have the skills, it’s just a gut check at this point & I’ll definitely send you the make 👊🏼🤙🏼🛹
Why so aggressive with the door, dang 😦
Your backside airs have come so far. Next time, I’m expecting a 720. Thank you 🙏🏻
Also, I know the skating is the main part but I would love a video of just your traveling montages
Anyways, good job 👍🏻 see you for the next video!
Looks like we just have to do some more traveling!!!! Haha I’m a long way from 720, but going higher is the main goal! Definitely want to introduce more lifestyle content into the mix soon! We shall see !!
how tall is that ramp?
Pretty sure it’s 8 or 9ft. Great ramp to learn on!!
