Mephiles's boss fight effectively confirmed that Mephiles IS "alive". He's simply stuck in the void, unable to leave and interact with the timeline; fully aware of his predicament. Which asks a VERY interesting question: If Robotnik(Classic) and Eggman(Modern) managed to find their way out of the void, what's stopping Mephiles? Or is he alredy out and we just don't know it yet? Because even if we assume the two Eggmen were returned to the timeline naturally because they are important to it and people remember them, then Mephiles technically alredy achieved his goal. Shadow, whether he likes it or not, *remembers* him now, at least this interaction. Giving Mephiles a foothold to come back one way or another.
The main thing stopping him is that he didn't have two goofy robots willing to help him with a time-travelling rocket. That being said, anything that interacts with White Space is just as likely to drag him back out.
The main thing keeping him there is that he's sealed in the Scepter lf Darkness inside his chamber. Unlike the Eggmen who were wandering freely in general White Space, Mephiles exists solely within his scepter in the small fragment of his timeline that remains. Unless someone else punches a hole in White Space like Sonic and Shadow can and disturbs him, Mephiles is trapped.

The new VA of Mephiles is Robbie Daymond, someone who worked a lot with SEGA, and he has been getting **it on Twitter because it's not Dan Green voicing the character. First, if you think they are ever bringing back someone from 4kidz, you are delusional. Second, just because he is not Dan Green, it does not mean the performance is bad, and it's not worth it getting harassed online.
That sucks. His vocal performance is one of the stronger ones in this game, even if it is a bit different. It reminds me a lot of his Japanese voice from 06.
Mephiles' story is even more tragic now that he's reappeared-and you can see how desperate he is. His original goal wasn’t just to destroy everything; it was revenge against the humans who experimented on Solaris, who basically was him. But after everyone responsible for his suffering was gone, all that remained were the corrupted parts of Solaris that craved destruction with no real purpose. It’s heartbreaking to see how he’s trapped in this endless cycle, losing any sense of himself in the process. His return to the new game feels like a last-ditch effort to escape that cycle and reclaim some control over his fate. He started out wanting revenge, but now he's just trapped, desperate, and broken. Poor Solaris, endlessly suffering and seeking a way out.
Has me thinking back to stuff like this one Xman comic where a kid finds out his power kills anything near him an he just sits there knowing he is fuked am all for series having characters that can push through punishment of there own existence its why FMA 2003 speaks to me so hard
It's been a long time since I cried over Sonic-related content, but Shadow is my favorite character because of his backstory. Having it written in this game so beautifully and seeing SEGA finally doing justice to his characterization after so long is so wonderful. I lost so many tears seeing Shadow give Maria a cute smile of happiness because you never see him give a genuine smile like that to anybody. It sucks that Shadow couldn't tell Maria and Gerald their fate because it would've messed with the timeline. However, I'm glad Maria gave him a proper goodbye, and even though Shadow had to lose Maria again, he still keeps moving on, but not before shedding a few tears for losing his best friend for a second time. I’m very curious how the movie is going to top this story with it being how more emotional it can be compared to the game; probably won't even compare to it, but I'm just waiting to see how they'll write Maria and Shadow’s friendship 🦔🖤❤️

Aside from the memes about the Fanbase wanting Maria to die in the movie, which I thought was based off of the irony of wanting an innocent kid to be killed in a kids movie, however, in reality it being because we want the story to be taken seriously. I didn’t realize until after Dark Beginnings that people were making jokes about it the entire time. I know the cut scenes could be funny, but I always thought that the more people dove into Shadow’s backstory, the more people took it seriously because of how deep and dark, it actually was. I could’ve swore that Maria‘s death was something people were already emotional about.

So I think I figured out why the characters in shadows white space can move specifically rouge in sonics white space no one could move until you save them but in shadows they can move without saving them so I think rouge is stuck between sonics and shadows white space she can’t move in sonics but can move in shadows
Yeah, with Mephilis, he was actually wiped from existence from the timeline. When the ending of sonic 06 happen it basically remove the chance of Solaris existing in its entirety and that includes mouthless emo dark boy and giant fire monster, who were essentially removed from the known timeline.
Noticed a lot of people were confused about some points regarding Black Doom in the game even after reacting to and dissecting Dark Beginnings. Sam thinking he was going to the white voice after Ark act 1 despite already establishing he actually goes to the ARK on his own in Dark Beginnings and Rouge is still at the birthday party. Wondering how Black Doom is back while Dark Beginnings showed a larva on the ARK in a flashback and Black Doom growing on the ARK in present day in Dark Beginnings.
I don't know why people are mad at Mephiles new voice. Robbie Daymond sounds amazing as Mephiles, maybe he doesn't sound as sinister as the other voice but he sounds mad and desperate which in this context is perfect.
Shadow 05 may have started the ‘Dark Age of Sonic’ but I think that it’s fitting to say that Shadow Generations has ended the ‘Dark Age’. How appropriate for Shadow to come full circle. Now Sega, please give us a Shadow 2, or at least a Team Dark based game! 🙏🏿

Overall even tho I do think there was some missed opportunity with the story and lore and what characters could have shown up in the open zone, and even tho I do wish it was a bit longer. This was amazing, so much love went into the level desgin and animations and bosses. The interactions with shadow and characters was really sweet and the open area was really neat and there’s plenty to collect. Plus it looks so beautiful and the soundtrack is fantastic. So happy shadow got his time to shine after all these years and like the rest of the series, they want to get back on what made people love this series. ❤️🖤

Why Shadow didn't take down the inhibitor rings? This would be much peaker. Shadows true form is actually without inhibitor rings. So... To defeat MEPHILES, Shadow needed to take down inhibitor rings and now, when there is time to take them down again, he did not...

So I think I figured out why the characters in shadows white space can move specifically rouge in sonics white space no one could move until you save them but in shadows they can move without saving them so I think rouge is stuck between sonics and shadows white space she can’t move in sonics but can move in shadows

I loved how they updated Shadows icon to be moving in this mixed game

Yeah, with Mephilis, he was actually wiped from existence from the timeline. When the ending of sonic 06 happen it basically remove the chance of Solaris existing in its entirety and that includes mouthless emo dark boy and giant fire monster, who were essentially removed from the known timeline.
Noticed a lot of people were confused about some points regarding Black Doom in the game even after reacting to and dissecting Dark Beginnings.
Sam thinking he was going to the white voice after Ark act 1 despite already establishing he actually goes to the ARK on his own in Dark Beginnings and Rouge is still at the birthday party.
Wondering how Black Doom is back while Dark Beginnings showed a larva on the ARK in a flashback and Black Doom growing on the ARK in present day in Dark Beginnings.
I don't know why people are mad at Mephiles new voice. Robbie Daymond sounds amazing as Mephiles, maybe he doesn't sound as sinister as the other voice but he sounds mad and desperate which in this context is perfect.
Shadow 05 may have started the ‘Dark Age of Sonic’ but I think that it’s fitting to say that Shadow Generations has ended the ‘Dark Age’. How appropriate for Shadow to come full circle. Now Sega, please give us a Shadow 2, or at least a Team Dark based game! 🙏🏿

literally the only gripe you could ever have with this game is that it's so short. I beat it in less than two days. Hoping that sonic team now has the budget to make things like these on a bigger scale. apart from that, top tier game
After you beat Chaos Island, Shadow ends up in Sonic's section of white space, so mayhe that's why they used it, to connect the two

This game and stream is already peak( i respect your opinions but I disagree on some,idrc about what ign thinks but good for you to be happy about it, I thought the frontiers ones were fun though I kinda thought the shadow ones were better/improvement from the sonic gen challengs etc)
Overall even tho I do think there was some missed opportunity with the story and lore and what characters could have shown up in the open zone, and even tho I do wish it was a bit longer. This was amazing, so much love went into the level desgin and animations and bosses. The interactions with shadow and characters was really sweet and the open area was really neat and there’s plenty to collect. Plus it looks so beautiful and the soundtrack is fantastic. So happy shadow got his time to shine after all these years and like the rest of the series, they want to get back on what made people love this series. ❤️🖤

Why Shadow didn't take down the inhibitor rings? This would be much peaker. Shadows true form is actually without inhibitor rings. So... To defeat MEPHILES, Shadow needed to take down inhibitor rings and now, when there is time to take them down again, he did not...

His portrayal was top-tier in that game. It could've been a LOT worse, he could've been characterized like his Boom counterpart (which, in my opinion, is his worst portrayal, due to him being evil for no reason, and ONLY that).
