Great video, I actually got to meet Van Williams in 1994 in Dallas, and hang out with him. He was a great guy! Told Me a few stories about Him and Bruce Lee. Best Crime Fighting Actor I ever met. Real Gentleman 👍
I loved the Green Hornet show, especially with Bruce Lee as Kato. As with most shows of the genre it requires a little suspension of disbelief, but that's part of the fun.😏
In one episode of Batman, The Green Hornet is a TV series Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson are watching, But then later Green Hornet and Kato show up as real people. Even stranger is the main characters from Emergency appear in an episode of Adam-12 and the two police officers appear in the first episode of Emergency, but later in the Emergency series Adam-12 is a televsion program that fireman are watching.
Seems like yesterday when I was anticipating The Green Hornet coming on tv, a Friday night at 7:30 on channel 7. Although I was Bat-crazy, I loved The Green Hornet, especially because of Kato. Seeing Kato fight was the highlight of the show, I thought.
When i meant Van Williams 30 yrs ago i asked him if Bruce Lee Really drove the car he said "Yes When he Wasn't Crashing it" i REALLY wished i had of asked him to ELABORATE !!!!!! 😮😮😮
The Green Hornet's Black Beauty car has always reminded me of those sinister looking 1965 Buick Rivieras! Haha! I even looked them up but they're two different car models.
More than The Lone Ranger, The Green Hornet can be seen as an actual sequel to the radio series. In the radio series, the Hornet was treated as a villain, but near the end of radio show, the Hornet reveals his identity to the District Attorney and they become partners, even though the Hornet is still seen as a villain by the public. This was carried on in the TV series. The Hornet also revealed his identity to his father Dan, but because of various rights issues by that time, they couldn't mention The Lone Ranger's name. Ah well. Now, here's a good little quiz: How many members of The Lone Ranger's family were fully identified in the radio series or the original TV series? Answer: Three, and one is technical. And the Ranger is not one of them. First, there's the Lone Ranger's brother, Captain Dan Reid. Then, there's Dan's wife, "a lovely lady from Virginia," named Linda. Lastly, and this may be the technical reference, Captain Reid's son, also named Dan. Maybe. Mrs "Grandma" Frisby raised Dan after his parents were killed, and she told the Ranger, "I called the baby Dan because it was the name on the locket" that she found with the child. That may or may not mean the boy was originally named Dan, but that's his name. And, of course, Dan Jr.'s own son (the Ranger's grand-nephew) is named Britt, but, naturally, Britt could never be named on the Lone Ranger series. He wasn't born yet. As for the Ranger himself, well, the only official name for him is Reid - and that's because his brother is Dan Reid ("Dan's last name is Reid, the same as mine," noted the Ranger to Grandma Frisby). Not once is the Ranger fully named. While it is accepted today that the Ranger's first name is John, the name was never used on radio or the original TV series. The first official use of "John" as the Ranger's name was in the 1980 movie with Klinton Spilsbury. Someone challenged me on this saying that the name "John Reid" was used in the origin episodes of the TV series, but, no. The closest we get is when the Ranger takes Tonto to his secret silver mine and they meet with Jim Blaine, a former Texas Ranger who is the only one other than Dan and Tonto that the Ranger trusts with his true identity. But the revelation is made off camera, and afterwards, Jim only refers to the Ranger as "Reid." And Tonto, of course, only calls the Ranger, "kemo sabe." Now, of course, The Lone Ranger and The Green Hornet are owned by two different entities, so it becomes even more difficult to sort out the family connections. Hi Yo Silver!
Awesome! I keep hoping one day to have a really good and successful Lone Ranger movie or TV series that does justice to Clayton Moore and his take of the Ranger.
Back in the 1990's, there was a Green Hornet comic book. Due to being owned by different companies (as you mentioned) they could not directly acknowledge the Lone Ranger as Britt's great uncle. What they did do was show a painting of a masked cowboy that Britt identified as a relative. They did not call him "The Lone Ranger" and he did not look like Clayton Moore's version. He had a full face mask like in one of the Lone Ranger movie serials.
@@calvinkatt662 I've seen the comic book - they actually did a great job, and the artwork is fantastic. True, they couldn't directly link the Hornet to his ancestor, but they did the best they could.
How did you miss the most glaringly obvious flaw in the tv series? Kato is called "Kato" even when he's wearing a mask to hide his identity. And no one is supposed to notice the only 2 Asians in town have the same name?
@@RobertGoldman-o2p That was one of the reasons the show got cancelled - everyone expected it to be Batman-camp, and they told it straight, so people lost interest quickly. Now, it's one of the reasons why the series works better than Batman in the long run. We love Batman BECAUSE it's so 60s day-glo camp. We love The Green Hornet because it was a good dramatic series.
Take another look at the show. Does the Green Hornet actually ever call him Kato in front of anyone? I don't remember that ever happening. Maybe I'm wrong but if he did it was pretty rare.
Love your Channel i am always Watching 😊 a Happy Place to Be. In the scene Bruce Lee as Kato faces Lo Sing, portrayed by Mako, however, during the actual fight scene, Bruce Lee's student and friend, Dan Inosanto is doubled for Mako. You can see dan, just to let You know 😊 Keep Up The Great Work You Do Thanks 😊😅😊
I went to the Baltimore Batfest in 06, Adam West mentioned that he had the costume dept put extra padding in everything it could. Someone asked about Burt Ward, and West said “F- him.”
You missed 1-2 Bat Man episodes Wayne and Reide went to same collage together. Both sets of crime fighters thought of the other as criminals as you brought up... then saw they were on the same side. Yes both in seperate cities. Both in Maybery that confused me. The green hornet the cars stored up side down couldn't leave anything in car didn't make since.
also, I wondered how or where Black Beauty would have been kept in Gotham( or really any location) outside the city it came from re that secret turn floor device in Britt Reid's garage. But far more absurdly, how on earth could Commissioner Gordon be led to believe that Britt Reid could be Batman when both Men had been in his office earlier at the same.
Lee was taking more than aspirin. He had a serious drug problem, which undoubtedly contributed to his death. He was addicted to diuretics and painkillers, which included opioids.
I went to a Kung fu class in the early ‘70s at sac city college when I was 15. The master claimed to have trained at the temple in China. This short old man bent over from a broken back could have his foot in your crotch faster than you could blink with minimal movement. His son, a black belt in Ju Jitsu was also incredibly fast, and had full contact history and also taught the class. The old man claimed to be a family friend of the Lee’s, and was privy to what supposedly happened. The Chinese mafia wanted in on Lee’s success, but Lee defied them. The mafia sent 3 guys after him to teach Lee a lesson. Lee knew who these guys were and realized the only way to defeat these guys was to let them get close enough, that meant taking some hits. He then killed all 3. Lee died from a subdural hematoma from a blow to his head. Don’t know if it’s true or not, I have no reason to not believe Master Ben Mar, and his son, Miles.
The answer to "real, television shows, know they are all good guys?" is easily answered by the comic book 'go to' answer for these situations: parallel realities. 😉
Yeah, the movie version wasn't as good. It had a few good moments, like when he blasted the redlight camera, but not enough to be a classic you want to own on DVD and watch again.

One of Mako's best roles was as Uncle Iroh in Avatar The Last Airbender. If you haven't seen the series I highly recommend it.
Fran Striker was the original author of the "Lone Ranger" novels, so the relationship between the Green Hornet and The Lone Ranger makes sense.
I think they should mention it in the next Green Hornet movie.
