Thanks for the video it has lots of good info. I eventually want to get into trolling once I get a kayak but it just seems complicated sometimes. All the different gear you have to buy from dodgers to heavy weights and different line and all that. Also is it possible to troll and regular fish at the same time? Troll then stop and cast a few times than move locations and start trolling again?
Thanks! Once you have the gear it's not bad at all, I fit all of mine into a single plano box and it lasts forever. You could troll and regular fish, but you'd have to reel up your trolling gear first. If you want to troll and regular fish at the same time, I'd suggest trolling crankbaits since most will float up when you stop. I still catch lots of fish on Rapalas and such.
Thanks! Here you go: uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190530/6f3fc0c4330c2202c284106401431fa9.jpg I use an app on my phone which isn't too accurate. But I just upgraded to a Garmin Striker which tracks speed so hopefully will be more accurate. But a general rule of thumb if you aren't able to track speed: Go a lot slower than you think you need to, when it comes to trout and (especially) kokanee. On pedal kayak like a hobie, this means very light strokes. You want to get the rod tip just thumping enough (which is induced by the action of the dogder), but not too fast.
@@ZachTaiji Sweet thanks. I just ordered a down rigger for my kayak so it should be easier. I picked up a lost creek 10' pedal kayak and a helix 7. It tracks speed. In theory I am set. I tried your technique at island lake the other day and I could see my the wedding rig behind the flasher to see if it was working. All I got was a few small bass and lost a small trout.
Peeling Line nice! Did you get the Scotty laketroller? I kinda want to get that for fishing on the sound. This dropper rig setup isn’t very ideal past 40 feet, I found out last weekend.
Peeling Line also island (in Silverdale) has been really hit or miss for me this year compared to the previous 2 years. I think because it’s been really pressured.
I'll be recommending your channel every time i get asked how to troll. I just like to capture the rod pumping and the drag screaming and the fish jumping clear out of the water when i get a hit while trolling. Ive been asked to do how to's since the day i slapped on a camera on my kayak but "how to's" isnt my thing.
Nice trolling primer, I subbed. I really like your coldwater reel, been considering one. How much of an error does it have would you say? Do you use it for saltwater trolling?
adrianS thanks man! And it’s pretty accurate, just fill up the reel. And I think I use 40lb test (braided). It was accurate when I tested it with a measuring tape in my yard. Yeah I’ve used it for saltwater trolling as well. Works great.
Sorry, your chart seems WAY off. With ONE oz. of weight. 125 FT 24 ft 150 FT 34 ft 200 FT 36 ft. That is just one place that shows the chart off. I am pretty sure there would be a lot more errors if you looked for them.
more informational than any other video, thanks a lot!
Great video Zach! This helps a lot for people like me learning to fish on a kayak!
Thanks man! Hope you get on some fish.
Great information and video. Keep them coming!

Great tutorial. Do you have a link for the depth to speed table? How do you know how fast you are going? 👍

@@ZachTaiji Yessir. It is on sale on amazon right now for $63.
Would you vy chance be able to share that chart you had printed out. I can't seem to find anything similar online.
I found a much more accurate one here: pixabay.com/photos/trolling-depth-weight-chart-5801602/

Thanks man, that means a lot! And yeah the rod pumping sure is addicting.
i guess I'm quite off topic but does anybody know a good site to watch new movies online?
@Clyde Luca i watch on flixzone. Just search on google for it :)
@Oscar Bruce Yup, I've been using Flixzone for since april myself :)
@Oscar Bruce Thanks, I signed up and it seems like they got a lot of movies there =) Appreciate it !
Can you use this setup for coho salmon?
What rod holders are those and where can you find them
Yak attack omega! Amazon
I trolled for trout as a kid but never put bait on the spoons and stuff that we used. Do you just cover up the hook with power bait or hook a worm?
Heck yeah bro! Nice video. Hopefully we can slay some salmon this year!
Thanks man! Jeff head is supposed to be on fire right now... we should hit it soon.
@@ZachTaiji for sure man, I've been dying to go but don't want to wander new waters on my own.. not in the salt atleast.
great video bro hey its zac here lol that's my name too hah I subbed ! (:
Thanks!
I enjoyed your video. Very informative! Just subbed. Any experience using a downrigger on your kayak?
Thanks! No, I want to get one though! Do you?

Shoot you’re right, thanks for catching that. I just found a way better chart here: pixabay.com/photos/trolling-depth-weight-chart-5801602/
Great video. But you didn't really go over pants. Do I have to wear my girlfriend's pants?
;)
Why are people ok with just dropping lead to the bottom of their local watershed??
