    The Fiery Gizzard Trail is a preeminent hike in Tracy City, Tennessee that takes you along waterfalls and out to Raven's Point, where you will see one of the most beautiful, remote gorges in the state. To do this adventure you will go to South Cumberland State Park. There is a small lot for parking and it's a great place for a backpacking trip because you can connect this trail and go out to Foster Falls too, adding another 8 miles to this adventure.Keep in mind this entire experience is in the deep woods so you may not have much cell phone service. I enjoyed this experience so much and cannot wait to go back. Hope you all enjoyed the video and got some value out of it! Let me know if you have done this hike in the comments. :)

    I did the hike 31 years ago. It was cold and wet, but it was fun. There were six of use. Then we went to see Foster Falls. I had a stroke 15 years ago. It limits the things I do. I went back up there last week. I tried to get to Blue Hole Falls, but it was too rough for me to make it. We went to see Foster Falls. I bought some wearing appears. The trip back was fun!

      This is amazing, Tom! You should check out my backpacking video of the trail. It's a much better video. :) Think you'll enjoy it since it seems to be a favorite trail of yours! Way to still get out there regardless of health issues that keep you from doing the whole thing. All that matters is keeping adventure alive in life!

      Thank you, Doc!! I see you write for The Trek. So cool! Listen to Backpacker Radio every week haha! If you enjoyed this video of the Fiery Gizzard, you should go watch my most recent one when I backpack the entire thing! It's way better! Thank you for such a kind comment. Always happy when new people find my channel and my videos entertain, educate, etc. :)

    Thanks for posting this video. The gizzard has been on my list for a while but I've been scared off by the difficult ratings. It looks very similar to some of the other trails that go through the gulch at South Cumberland, but with more elevation gain and more rock hopping. This was super helpful for my prep!

      Leann!! Thank you for watching! I literally just got back from doing an entire yo-yo thru hike of the Gizzard. That video will be edited and is still a month out from being posted but I cannot wait to share that adventure. I think it's going to be even more helpful because I did the entire thing -- from Grundy (north trailhead) to Foster Falls (south trailhead) AND BACK! 31 miles in 3 days. Campsite was at Little Cove and was about a mile off tail itself so that's why the total was a little higher than expected. But yes, the this one is a difficult one mainly because of the boulders. you have to bye diligent or you'll twist an ankle pretty easily. Hope you'll come back and watch the video from my recent Fiery Gizzard trip soon. 😊

    Great video, Jamie. I really enjoy your filming and commentary. Just a point of clarification. One person already alluded to this. You really only did half of the Fiery Gizzard Trail. What you did, based on the official South Cumberland State Park Guide, was The Grundy Loop to The Fiery Gizzard Trail to Raven Point and back on the Dog Hole Trail. When you left Raven Point, heading back on the Dog Hole Trail, you reached a trail junction that pointed right to continue on the Fiery Gizzard or left on the Dog Hole Trail. It's another 7 miles to the end of the Fiery Gizzard Trail at Foster Falls State Recreation Area. It goes through three more significant gorges and back up on the Plateau each time. It is every bit as strenuous as the hike to Raven Point and a little longer. Point to point, Grundy Forest to Foster Falls, including Raven Point, it is 13.5 miles. I highly recommend you go ahead and do the second half. It is just as awesome as the first.

      First off, thank you for watching, Preacher! Secondly, you're going to love a video I have coming out in about a month. I just got done doing the FULL Fiery Gizzard thru hike. I actually go from Grundy to Foster and back to Grundy in a 3 day, epic backpacking trip. Looking back, I hate that this video is a little misleading because you are correct, I did the loop, not the entire trail. Super pumped for you to see my recent adventure of the Fiery Gizzard.

    Jamie you are a rockstar to do the fiery gizzard in one day and self produce the video. Appreciate the work and your sharing your experience. I am in Coffee County and looking at a complete loop of Savage, Gulf natural area in the spring.

Always happy when new people find my channel and my videos entertain, educate, etc. That Savage Gulf loop hike sounds like a lot of fun. Excited to get over there in the summer this year. So much on my plate right now with adventures I already have planned. 😅

      Salamat, Maybel! This was one of my favorite hikes in this area. Happy you enjoyed all the waterfalls! They were all raging during this time of year. 😊

      Thank you, Holistic Hikes! I know you’re over in the Pacific Northwest which is beautiful itself! If you’re ever in Tennessee there’s actually more to this trail that involves even bigger waterfalls. It definitely was a beautiful adventure and I’d encourage you to do this one! Appreciate the view on my channel. ♥️

      Definitely taking her back here so we can do the FULL trail all the way out to Foster Falls. We are hopefully getting into backpacking by 2024 so that'll be a heckuva time. 😁

    Great hike! I’m backpacking from Grundy to foster falls soon. Do you think that the lower portion on the fiery gizzard trail is worth the effort? Or could I skip it and take dog hole

    • @JamieMcCracken
      @JamieMcCracken  Рік тому

      Kayla! Yes, it's absolutely worth it. Nice and challenging with the boulder hopping. It's not like Class 3 scrambling or anything. Just always have to be looking down to get from one rock to the next but I loved hiking along the river/creek. I wouldn't miss this part especially since you are backpacking and presumably will have a tent and stay overnight. Have a blast! Cannot wait to go back. 😊

      You’re correct, Michael. Should have done more research prior to the hike. I’m currently building up a fund to buy a lot of backpacking gear and plan to go back and do the whole route as an overnight stay so you will get to see Foster Falls and all that next time. Appreciate you watching and still being kind. ♥️

      You'll have to get out there! Check out the backpacking trip I did a few months ago. It's a recent video that's better than this one and will give you a lot more info. It's one of the best hikes I have done in Tennessee. 😊
