I don't think the President understands what Kenyans are going through. In reference to the protest, I Don't know whether he is just acting clueless or he is, but things are not well. We are seeing a lot of wastage in government yet he keeps saying he is doing everything to make life better. There is nothing wrong with taxes but when they are out to burden an already overburdened people, they are not worth it.
I am one of the youths who has had to struggle with unemployment and I am on the verge or loosing a scholarship to study abroad because I can't even afford air ticket. Yaani, the little we get from hustling we cannot even afford to save for a rainy day. Things need to improve but the President doesn't appreciate that

The president appeared pissed off and bitter for having been forced to pull off the bill. No show of remorse or empathy. He did not offer any condolences to those that lost life, those who lost their children, brothers and sisters. He did not offer condolences to the nation. He did not say am sorry. He appeared tone deaf. We’re hurting for crying out loud!!! Another thing was that the president was so defensive. It was so clear to me that he was on the side of the police no matter what. He was given so many opportunities to show leadership, to be the peacemaker and bring people together but he did not take that opportunity. In my opinion the president should have called for a day of mourning. I think the President should resign and let the Kenyans get someone who is able to identify with their plight.

@lucynderitu, we can't be certain that the finance bill was withdrawn yet. You see, parliament members are on recess until the 23rd of July. And he's yet to call them back for an emergency seating.
Also, if he has decided to sit that bill on his desk pending further action, with or without his signature the bill automatically becomes LAW after 14 Days. This is despite what the president tells the Kenyan people.
Now ... Given that the presidents' word means absolutely nothing (ZERO CREDIBILITY), it's very possible that he's playing yet another "catch-me-if-you-can" game with the public. Ruto isn't one to concede. Not in this lifetime.

@@criessmiles3620Neither do you. Our President 13/15years ago dealt with the same problem and weathered through it. Kenya has more than enough money to pay those loans if it were not for corruption. Increasing tax every year post Covid when a lot of us have shut down businesses as our politicians live extravagantly is not a solution. Hell, if he asked the 50Mil of us contribute 2,000 each we’d clear that loan. But then if the loop holes are not sealed and expenditure reduced, we will be in the same hole 5 to 10 years from today. We actually don’t even need new roads everywhere for now, neither do we need the housing projects for now, maybe even just equip hospitals and postpone half of the projects until we reduce loans and reduce their salaries.

The journalists tried their best to prompt the President to react humanely by asking how he felt but he constantly failed to give empathetic responses. I think our influencers should be careful not to fuel this situation. Yes, we need to push for the rogue officers to be arrested. I had the LSK and KNCHR have videos of rogue officers, they have to sue them. If the government has videos of those who destroyed property, let them arrest and charge them. There is no need of fueling this situation further. It can be very costly to our country.

Watching the whole interview, Ruto never took responsibility, and the word "sorry" doesn't exist in his vocabulary.

Good Kenya youths stand for your right too many taxes
Kenya is facing a financial crisis fueled by binge borrowing. Ruto or no Ruto The loans are now due…The IMF couldn’t care less about how we feel about Ruto. President Ruto has failed to acknowledge that Kenyans must be engaged in the conversation and any decision making on this hot matter. After all, it’s their bill! Instead he has rammed a bill through parliament mpende msipende and lobbed tear gas when confronted with public dissent. This amounts to dereliction of duty. This isn’t the first time he has shown disdain for public discourse. He has deployed a group of police officers to Haiti (French speaking country) without explaining to Kenyans what in this part of the world is in Kenya’s national interest. If you are going to put kenyan lives on the line, the least he can do is consult them, isn’t it?Mr. Ruto’s aversion to public opinion or accountability casts him as a tone deaf arrogant individual not fit for any public office. In this particular crisis, tear gas, police batons, and live bullets won’t do! We need all hands on deck and a level headed individual in that office who appreciates the seriousness of the financial burden, and is fully aware that the president of Kenya is accountable to her citizens. I think this man should resign quickly so we can get somebody who can work with all stakeholders to find a way forward.
Let us not forget the murder of Jacob Juma, the congregants of a church in Eldoret during the post election violence and also the murder of more than 100 people in Ongata Rongai and Githurai. Mr William Samoei Ruto should be greatly ashamed of himself!!
What can we expect from a man who has been accused for murder many times,taken to Hague but sadly even the witnesses then disappeared one by one.......but then boom............! Kenyans ignored a lot about him and still put him in power.
This is the question to all Kenyans; Will you side with your childern or will you side with foreigners? Some of the children are traumatized from what they saw on Tuesday. Kenya for Kenyans. No to foreigners and their agents.
