  • In this video, Bill "The Flavor Guy" demonstrates how easy it is to make an extract from just 3 ingredients: water, 80 proof alcohol, and (green) black walnuts. 400 ml of alcohol, 600ml of distilled water, and walnuts are all you'll need, and this very formula may work for many other extracts as well.

Really enjoyed seeing the extraction process, is it so simple for any flavour or are some trickier than others? Would be great to see a lab tour in a video and the final result of the chestnut extract.

Its roughly the same for many flavors! There are many videos here on youtube that we've seen ourselves of people making banana, vanilla, orange, mint, extracts and more. The only trick to it is time and patience. Of course, this is just the simple method. In another video, we made an orange extract from various citrus oils & essences that is much more complex, but it provided greater control to what type of extract we wanted. It's thanks to Bill's expertise that we can make extracts up to hundreds of thousands of times stronger than its originating source. Here's the link to that video if you'd like to check it out ua-cam.com/video/izzzYCEDWZM/v-deo.html

Hi. I would like to make a cream with this. I assume an oil would be better. Is there a way to Distill the hulls? Maybe cold pressing would work.

I used the link in the video (broken) but found black walnut flavoring. Would that be the same as black walnut bitters (minus the cloves, peppercorns, cinnamon, etc...? I don't know if bitters have water or are extracted with pure alcohol.

Hello. I stumbled across your website and was wondering what the shelf life of your flavor oils are for lip balms?

  • @beyondtheicewallofthemind710

Very professional laboratory and hygienic precautions (PPE gloves, etc.), however the method of using a canning jar with an enamel lid to saturate with alcohol of such a high rate of cauterisation (high proof), is not very smart. I expect to make some oil or other raw extract of the black walnut fruit, without the use of alcohol, which breaks down the enzymes and nutrients in the fruit, and also leaches the heavy metals from the canning lid.
Good cinematography and editing on the producer's part. Helpful video in many ways.
    Kudos,
    Karl

do you have to remove the shells like removing the vanilla bean after the alotted time? (I have realllllly old vanilla in a jar that I forgot to remove the beans out of it years ago so I've never used it. I haven't trashed it yet but I always wonder if there is something that I can skip that step since I apparently forget it ;p)
Thank you for all of your products and videos.

Hi, question have you ever gotten a rash or hives because I just used gloves and realized the black walnut green hulls touch my side arm and felt itchy and had one hive bump, any recommendations or experiences or what to expect! Is it normal ? Also seen worms inside of it while there still green on some of them and is it safe ?

I tried bleach , and soap for whitening on clothes, didn't work. thanks..
