Same. I had technically heard it before because I had the album. But then when it played on Smallville with Lana walking down the street alive, it became a core memory and took on a whole new meaning. I started listening to it over and over and now it's prob my favorite song of hers. And I wouldn't have grown to love it as much if not for Smallville.
Same! This is my favorite of her performances. I can't believe how fast she switches from fun banter on stage to channeling raw emotion. And that voice!!
"And I don't know, this could break my heart or save me Nothing's real until you let go, completely" God, I love her. Still coming back to this video again and again in 2024. I've said for years my two favorite artists from my generation are her and Ed Sheeran. I could listen to her sing all day. Her new songs "Mine" and "Lighthouse" are absolute fire, but this one will always be my favorite. What a voice, and not only that but she's just a good human.
Kelly Clarkson's fans have good taste. I'm glad they didn't pick one of her many big commercial hits that everyone's heard a ton of times already. This is definitely one of her best!
Can’t believe that was over 15 years ago. She sounds great or even better now one of the best voices of this generations. Highly underrated! This song hits hard cause I’m 9 years sober. This song takes me back!!!
And I am 12 days today... Even though I don't know you - at 47 days you are an inspiration to me. I wish you and I, and anyone struggling with addiction, every good fortune I can muster
This song has nothing to do with drug addiction or alcoholism Its about being free from a toxic relationship. People seem to only pay attention to titles or choruses. Thats why people play "I'll Always Love you" from Whitney Houston at weddings when its a freakin' break up song Listen to the lyrics people
Ugh, the growth in her voice on this album was phenomenal. My December was so necessary for Kelly to shake the American Idol stigma by bringing a lower, emotional strength to her voice. And now look at her, her vocals are impeccable!
One of my favorite KC songs! I love this performance, but when she performed it this past August at her Vegas residency, it was somehow even better! She has only gotten better over the years! This performance is still excellent though!💚
If Kelly reads these I want her to know how much I have struggled with opioid addiction. I get clean for months or even up to a year. 3 days ago I just relapsed and bought pills. Across when they were gone I wanted more I made the phone call and started the drive. Half of me was telling me no but the addict side of me was saying yes. I literally got 5 miles from where I was going to make the purchase and this song came on my playlist. I pulled the car over on the interstate and literally started crying. I was so ashamed in myself and what I had accomplished and it seemed like I have zero self control. I play this song now on repeat since I did that to remind me I can do this. Kelly your a amazing, talented and loving person. I know that GOD put you in the public eye to use that beautiful gift to help others. Thank you for sharing you gift.
I love this song so much. a lot of people could construe it as a song about sobriety but to me its about getting rid of toxic elements in or life or destructive people that bring you down. amazing performance by kelly she's one of the most underrated artist out right now imo.
Elise Fincher a song can have a number of meanings when I first heard it I thought it meant one thing and now I think it means another truly amazing song
I've loved this song since it came out and it's actually held many different meanings for me over the years. I think that's the beauty of this song, its meaning is whatever it means to the listener.
@@colton4261she’s actually an excellent songwriter, and this is coming from a songwriter. having written not only this song, but other wonderful ones such as Behind These Hazel Eyes, Because of You, the rest of My December, Already Gone, You Love Me, You Can’t Win, most of Chemistry… yeah she’s underrated in the songwriting department I gotta say
This song hits so different. I remember discovering it in a time where I felt alone, i used to cry myself to sleep listening to this. Somehow took my sadness higher but i felt a comfort at the same time. A safe place to me
So intimate, so raw, I loved it. I maybe from Minnesota but when I think of Kelly, she is that Texas woman who dresses in jeans and a t-shirt, leaving it all out there, on a stage. I think she feels like the luckiest person in the world when she is doing what she loves...Singing.
It was. As well as Don't Waste Your Time, the whole album launch got torpedoed by Clive Davis, cause he wanted a Breakaway 2.0. Kelly wanted to make My December because she was just exhausted and had too much on her heart. They went head to head, Kelly fired everybody, got a new team, Clive was pissed, slandered her and used his connections to make My December fly under the radar as far as promo went. She had to cancel her tour and go on tour with Reba instead. The gag is though, my December is her highest selling record to date so who really won?
It Was a single. Unfortunately, the album that contained the track was part of the record company she split from. They refused to to promote the release, or the tour for the album.
I'm a male and I got the lines " I picked all the weeds Mom, but you'll always be my flower" with a couple roses tattooed on my rib cage. She hates all my tattoos but she cried when I showed that to her on mother's day.
Efficio Vel Morior 30 STM for life! Picked all my weeds but kept the flowers..... Is the line. She even says before she starts singing she wrote the song based around that
@@PhilJr He identifies with that line but personalized it for his mom. My mom's been a single parent since 1997 when Dad passed, I would totally have that tattooed on myself.
There are no words for what this song does to me and has gotten my through. When I think of Kelly Clarkson this is what I think of. Just raw, emotion and grit. It's ugly, beautiful and honest at the same time. And my girl rocks it in a t shirt 🥰 not to mention just off hand on a random request
“We haven’t done this one in a while. I hope I don’t mess it up!” Then she continues to just SLAY the tune with an all-time top notch vocal performance! Kelly just delivers every time!
I am not one for live versions of songs and this is one of my fave songs of yours. But DAMN if you didn't just blow me away!! I cried all over again!! Thank you for your music Kelly!!!!
What kind of person isn't for live versions of songs? I only listen to live as does most of the people I know. I mean of course you know we all listen to both but primarily live and that's what everybody prefers because you get to hear the true music in it and the true artist within it.
I relate this to going no contact with my family. It's beautiful. I have only the family I have chosen. It's better this way. And I am better this way. Thank you for this song.
I've had many toxic people in my life over the years. This has helped me so much get through broken friendships and broken relationships over the years. It always helps me feel better always. I'm very moved by you guys and your stories of addiction. For me my addiction has been emotionally wounding myself by allowing people who were bad for me to hurt me again and again. I applaud you all for your conviction and bravery in kicking the habits. Love and light to all of you.
Roland Baldwin I feel you bro. I'm just dealing with the same situation right now in my life. Learning in the hard way how to move on by myself. It is so hard and hurts a lot when people that you thought loved you then, now just don't even care about you. It sucks but it makes us better and stronger in time. Thanks and by the way, this song also helps me a lot.
This song helps me get through so many stressful situations. It's one of the few songs that can really calm me down. Thank you Kelly for writing this beautiful song.
She is so purely and naturally talented! I love kelly clarkson for being herself, and showing people that you dont have to be the prettiest and thinnest to really make a success of yourself, thats what makes her beautiful is being her naturally talented and beautiful in her own way.

thank god to the friend who gave kelly the line 'pick the weeds and keep the flowers' amen to you for bringing such an inspirational quote with out that we wouldnt have such an amazing song, plus kellys hard work but this makes me view my life in a completely different way...
I ran across this performance again the other day and I swear, she's incredible. Not many people can sing this well live. One of my favorite songs she's done.
kellys song writing has always been perfect for me a perfect combination of heartbreaking and uplifting song writing but her voice is so in control and demanding im calling it right now shes without a doubt one of the greatest musical artistic talents ever male or female shes just amazing every time she writes a song it dosent matter what its about it hits me full of soul and emotions shes the definition of a profound artist and one of the most amazing emotional songs too kelly you are too perfect and beautiful keep being you everyone thats a music enthusiast that likes great sound voice and song writing look no further then kelly clarkson shes inspiring
2023 I think it was October during her Vegas residency people waited for days and paid a fortune to be there just to wait for this song. And as amazing and goosebumps giving is this version is the version of her who's been through a divorce and who has also cultivated her voice to near perfection brought this song to 10 other levels

Completely agree! By far my favorite. Shame so many people will never see this and get to experience it because everyone should. Its that sorta life-changing incredible for me.
Sometimes deciding when to let people go from your life is so damn hard, and sometimes you never truly let that go - this song is so inspiring and I love to listen to this live version over and over.
This live version is the best of them all. At the end of the song when she last noted "Picked all my weeds but kept the flowers", she turned to her guitarist/friend and giggling with bright and happy voice ~ she just stated again that her beloved, friends, fans are all her flowers that she wants to keep, and even there were highs and lows, it does get better everyday.
her voice her personality every song of her.. she is all i want to be, she's my forever idol.. and damn i wish someday to become a half of what she is.. she is amazing, the only singer who made me cry because of her freaking gorgeous unbelievable voice. I love you kelly.
I've been blessed enough to never struggle with addiction in a drug/alcohol or the like capacity, but still... this song never fails to bring a tear to my eye (if not make me openly sob). I relate to the song as it fits to my struggles with striving for a healthy relationship with food. It still fits. Beautiful!
seriously kelly has to be one of the best LIVE performers in history. Comparing studio to live, not many artists have fans prefering the live version...kelly is just absolutely amazing as is the song. I keep coming back to re-listen and fall in love all over again
Not to many artist can stand on a stage and belt it out like Kelly. No dancing, prancing, crazy clothes..just SING!!!!!! I loved Kelly since album one. WHAT A VOICE. Sober should have been on the greatest hits..Awesome song.
This song is so special we should always keep the flowers. Kelly has a beautiful way of touching you through the intensity of her vocals and lyrics. Keep killing it Kelly
This song REALLY is the best she's ever written, and the way she sings it, it's really touching. Love her voice, love her talent, and the way she's always been so grounded and yet so aware of how much of a star she is! Love her!!!!

Absolutely. There's a genuine sincerity in there. She's so good!
I love her PERFECT voice so much!
i know i wish i was as special as her.... so magical... im a singer songwriter... but maybe not as good....

Hello from December 2023
The years go by and whether it's sung live or in the magnificent studio version, this track just keeps aging like fine wine. Her best song.
Came here because I’m three months sober from alcohol today. I know it’s not about that, but the lyrics really apply to addiction as well.
