Doesn't really get any better than this for local talent at the high school level. The tendency for young lines or novice players I most commonly see is approach on touch and velocity... Always it's too soft, not enough volume, and an overall low velocity on throwing down at both heights. Despite not playing through the head, the sound admittedly still comes out great and the blend is there. The staff does a real good job on tuning and adjusting for this. Maybe "soft touch" is deliberately implemented here in preparation for the coming indoor season?

Also could be because they have such a large line, no need to play though the head that much

I think not playing through the head is the overall tendency these days, compared to earlier decades, though perhaps you're right that the tendency is more pronounced among younger players.

Why don't they have this many people during indoor?

They value having a higher quality and to make it more competitive they offer less spots.

They had 5 seniors on snare this year and everyone could keep up hence the 8 snares.
