THE 1958 EDSEL (any model) IS MY DREAM CAR!!
You should check out the 1959 Edsel Villager station wagon (9 passanger car).😉👍
I still think the '58 is just beautiful :-)
It's hilarious listening to a modern kid talking about a car from my middle-teens !!!
Beautiful car. Now take it out for a drive and give it a Drew score. Oh wait, ask your Mama first lol
I was just 16 when these cars came out. WE had a dealership here in our town and went to see them on grand opening day. I was impress back then and still I'm today. I really love the convertibles and hardtops. I was always a Mopar guy, but thought Ford Motor Co. brought out some really neat cars in the Fifties and Edsel's were one of them and now they are now sought after. Thanks to all of you that brought the dead back from the grave. Now we can enjoy looking and appreciate them again.
Definitely want to come to Kansas soon to see your museum.
That's a mighty big claim.
You know we're talking Doug.🤔
I'd take a '58 Edsel Burmuda Wagon anyday over just about any Ford that was made that year!
That is a masterpiece of American car manufacturing.
Stunning.
*Doug´s long lost son!*
Last thing Doug remembers is having left the kid in the trunk of an old Ford while testing the size of it. Doug closed the trunk without having the keys to open it and moved on to the Doug score. He then completely forgot his son but was sure his "Bumper to Bumper" Warranty would cover the misplacement of a relative. Turns out it did not, Doug moved onto better and newer cars while his son showed up inside of a Car Museum 8 years later and ended up curating cars...
Great job Drew! With each video it will get smoother, both technically and presentation.
I’ve heard several reasons for Edsel line/division failure: styling, quality, cost.
Always forget that Edsel was to be a division (aka Mercury/Lincoln).
You mentioned “gun sight” when discussing hood ornament, which was somewhat common in the era, think Buicks of late 40’s (47 & 49 Roadmaster) and into 50’s with the V ornament.
Good work, you'll be failing to sell over-priced signed photos before you know it soon!
I am a proud owner of one!
Gorgeous car. Lots of quirks, lots of features, and I wish I had one.
My absolute dream car is a 1958 edsel citation hardtop
Absolutely S0O!!!!✌️👌👍 ESPECIALLY THE (4) DR HARDTOP!!!! THE FULL LINE ASSEMBLY PACKAGE!!!!
Interesting. Id be very interested to see the engines when you show us cars.
I don't know why the heck he didn't show it either, he probably don't even know to open the hood, it opens up from the windshield side, (NOT FROM THE GRILL SIDE)😭😭😭 this car should have the V-8 engine with a 361, 400 motor, and the Citation and Corsair have the 410,. 475 engines and yes they sure love gasoline, they are super guzzlers with 4 barrel carburators. 👍
The Edsel invented quirks & features.
Great job Drew.
I think it was the names that killed the Edsel. Chevy used the "Citation" for their first front drive car which was a mechanical nightmare. AMC used the "Pacer' name for a fishbowl on wheels. Ford later used the "Ranger" name for a truck. Then Chevy used the modified name "Corsair" as Corvair. Nader probably attacked the Corvair, because he thought it was an Edsel. And then the "Villager" name was used by Mercury. Not sure if anyone used the "Bermuda" name for anything after Edsel Bermuda Wagon was built. Toward 1960, Edsel had virtually abandoned the weirdness, and their cars were Fords with a different tail light.
Lincoln is using Corsair on their crossovers, currently, and Ford re-vamped Rangers recently.
Also the Comet was originally designed for Edsel division, but it’s release in April ‘60 was after Edsel’s demise in November ‘59. So they badged it as a stand-alone vehicle, until it went under the Mercury division in 1962.
It really was a beautiful car. It's funny that you pointed out that the gas filler cap was behind the license plate. That was very common on big American cars through the 70's.
If i get rich enough, i am getting one, no matter the cost and how hard it would be to obtain one where i live. It would totally be the showstopper at any car meet in east europe. A jet age relic in the form of a huge metal piece with according looks
*WOW* !!! This 1958 *Edsel* is unique!!! I *LOVE* the *red and white* exterior/interior colors!! #FordEdsel #MidwestDreamCarCollection
Its STUNNING
Thanks for showing us this beautiful piece of history.
Always liked the Edsel
Probably my favorite car ever. By far my dream car
1:41 Hence Every Day Something Else Leaks.2:32 are you sure that isn't the speed alert? The top of the speedometer glowed red if you exceeded the speed you set. BTW for what it's worth the '59 Edsel was one of the prettiest cars of the '50's IMO. Beautiful car, love those Edsels! Nice presentation, glad to see a young(er) person appreciate a car like this.
Friend of my dad had one. I rode in onetime, it seemed like a okay car to me
Gorgeous car!
I think it's a great looking car. And I like the color too. Thank you for the video 📸📸📸📸❤😊😊
Nice video and short to the point! By the way, why do the power window switches look too 1990s or somewhen in the late 20th century?
That's a big faux pas on the part of whoever restored the car. Why go through all that trouble to restore the car to original condition only to have something that is so blatantly out of place? Sure, modern might be more reliable, but reliability isn't the point really.
@jasonmeadows8510 that's not why you own a old car, for reliability. Thank you for pointing that out.
The editing of this video is hilarious.
Nice Edsel, nice Drew Casper.
Like your youthful style.
Drew is really handsome hahaha
Say what you want about its design, but when I imagine early 60-ies American cars all those beautiful Cadillacs, Edsels and DeSotos pictured on Park Avenue comes to my mind...
Fantastic, just fantastic!
I once marveled that after Ford's bad luck with the Edsel Pacer (and other models). That years later, AMC would manufacture a radical, controversial car named the Pacer. Both cars have been the source of endless jokes. Of course the Ford Edsel is the most well-known of the two.
The AMC Pacer doesn't get any grief 'cuz it was just another in a long line of bad '70's cars. The Edsel was made at a time of some of the most beautiful cars in automotive history. In the opinion of a lot of people this isn't one of them making it stand out. They got it right in '59 though. 1960? not so much.
Actually the 1958 economic recession, and poor build quality including tele-touch selector, were major reasons for the end of the Edsel division. Much like 2008-2010 recession saw an end to the Mercury division.
Interesting that it has power front windows and crank rear quarter windows.
what an amazing car this is! thanks for sharing!
I’d like to know how the car is so amazing if it had so many quality downturns
Does it come with a 429 or a 460 super cobra Jet motored or any other kind a big block cobra jet motor
Edsel:

Leaks.
Beautiful car - what's it valued at?
58 pacer convertibles are anywhere from 5 grand on up. A nice running and driving convertible is usually well under 25 grand. Sedans are significantly cheaper to buy. I'm a member of the International Edsel Club. I own a 1958 Edsel Corsair
fix your audio, I love the doug comment. He should visit with you and do some car reviews with you.
Its nice to have something reviewed by someone without a fake British accent.
Why didn't you show the engine 😭 and the spare and jack, or does it not have those included????
Nice 👍🏻
Bill of Curious Cars would love to drive this.
Nothing is weirder than Doug Demuro.
I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks Doug Demuro is weird.
Although there WAS a 1960 Edsel (barely different than the '60 Ford) its production only lasted a couple of months, if that, ending permanently in November 1959.
nice coverage of an interesting bit of automotive history would like to see what engine ..400 or 475 drive train curious thank-you
Keep em coming brobot
love these
2:15 I'm reminded of the Mach 5
I love it!
The Edsel with the passage of time, has finally become what I perceive to be... beautiful.
So so gorgeous. The car is nice too.
Kids got Jim Carrey hair ! 😊
I can't sit thru 1/2 a Doug Demuro vid (awful). But I could watch Drew over and over. But I also can't NOT watch a Hoovie vid. I'm not sure what that means. Maybe I need Professional help.
Actually the 71 and 72 full size Fords had vertical grills.
It is a sharp looking car
i have one 58 2dr ht
Not first Ford with vertical grille but first since 30s.
Wouldn't mind checking our your quirks and features x
The driver's door electric window switches are not original, and the white painted accents around the front grille sides are a custom touch.
I was in both national clubs, that's how I know.
Thanks for posting.
this car's front is a bit weird
I think people calling an Edsel “a Ford” and saying “this is the only Ford with....” doesn’t give the right impression of what the car really was.....it makes it seem like it’s a “Ford Edsel” alongside a “Ford Fairlane,” which is not the case. It’s an “Edsel Citation.”
Edsel was its own brand, as I’m sure you know. I know you may be saying “this is the only Ford product with a vertical grille,” but I think saying the word “product” makes it clear that this is not a Ford per se....it’s not part of the Ford brand. It’s part of the Ford Corporation, the overall parent of Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, and of course Edsel for a period.
A good example would be with GM. You wouldn’t look at a Buick LaSabre and say “this is the only GM with XXX.” It’s not “a GM LaSabre.” It’s a Buick LaSabre, and Buick is owned by GM. You would say “this is the only GM product with a XXX.” There is a distinction, and when people call the Edsel “a Ford” and don’t specify it was a brand “made by Ford Corporation,” it leads to all of the videos and comments I’ve seen calling this the “Ford Edsel.”
However, I liked the video.
Your interest and diligence is appreciated.
ONLY THE FRONT WINDOWS ARE POWER OPERATED?
Correct. Edsel offered power windows on just the front windows or the front and back windows as options. With your sharp eye you may have noticed that the switches are modern replacements which look out of place, but at least the power window switch housings are still correct.
The financial recession of 57-58 was the main culprit of the Edsel's quick demise.
That's one big pascal swirl
I don't understand, it's a handsome looking car,
The passenger door color doesn't match the rest of the car. Minus points on this beauty.
350 million/ 3.5 billion modern money hole in Fords Wallet.
Edsel was a fine example of what happened to American cars at the time. Stylists or "Industrial Designers" had way too much influence and Engineers really took a back seat to them. Prior to its release, Edsel was advertised as being a very new and different car but when revealed it was really just a mild styling exercise on a Plain-Jane Ford. Lipstick on a pig as it were. Public was disappointed.
The only thing that is weird here is that guy using all the time the word weird. This car is like every other 1950's car, it has pro's it has cons. It was rejected by an over-spoiled American car buying public.
We agree, it is a fantastic car, just very abnormal in its design. The video was supposed to be a satirical Doug Demuro car review that was just poorly executed due to lack of humor & personality...
Good job with the video young man!
¡Excellent & grabby title, Drew. Edsel weird - Doug weird. Edsel ugly - Doug ... umm. Oops! Sorry Doug. (c;
Last year some piece of trash bitch walkn into a Mini Mart yelled at me while I was waiting for a train to go by, she uttered the words, (Junk it!!!!) I'm like oh NO YOU didn't, so I THUR IT BACK AT HER, SHE DIDNT HEAR ME the 1st time, SO I YELLED A 2 nd TIME LOUDER, TRAIN WAS GOING PRETTY SLOW IN REVERSE, SHE HEARD THAT TIME, SHE LOOKED UP I SAID, HEY YOU, SHE LOOKED UP TURNED HER HEAD towards me, looks at me AND I YELLED BACK AT HER, (JUNK YOURSELF)!!!! She shut up, looked down and walked into the store 🤣. Bitch!!! I even had my dad's MISSING IN ACTION /PRISONER OF WAR FLAG, MARINE FLAG AND THE AMERICAN FLAG, WHAT A DISRECTFUL, TROUBLED, BITCH, I SINCERELY APOLOGIZE FOR MY PROFANITY BUT IT HAD TO BE SAID😠. I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING, BUT JUST WAITN FOR A TRAIN AT THE CROSSN. 🇺🇸🇺🇲🇺🇸✌️😉
If I came to your collection and saw those modern power window switches I would be very disappointed. Why haven't you found and replaced them by now?
Hi Drew! ...Now to watch your video
The paid does not match on the fender and passenger door
Step up your audio game! Good sense of humor though. Talking doug always brings comments!
Dude relax.....u seem so nervous
Funny how such a powerful company such as ford could get it so wrong... apallingly weird.
Nice car. Fix your audio use a mic
Besutiful car...but the red paint is wrong. Not correct to the 1950s. Would have been more flat and one dimensional.
But there were things wrong with it
First vertical grille since 1930s. You explain later the gory details. There were worse comparisons of the grille, one you can't mention on air. One of the greatest cars ever made? Surely I didn't hear you say that. One of the weirdest, yes - but not anywhere near event a second rung.
Speaking of weird, 👀 ...
Interesting car and video, but I have on point. Maybe jnvest in a lav mic, the constant change in Audio type and background noise is distracting
Great video as always! I think you could really work on your speaking; if you make it sound less like you’re reading from a script, it’ll sound a lot smoother. 🙃
*Research please!* Plenty wrong - parts missing or badly mounted, no separate assembling (just in with other FoMoCo), dealers told to add parts left in the trunk - plus unliked look. Badly marketed & created - a study in exec failure.
Ford shouldn't have given up on Edsel. If there was a modern person who loved Edsel cars, they would tell Ford not to give up on the Edsel project, because 5 decades later, which is now, everyone loves the Edsel, for it's creative front-end design. But Ford was dumb, so dumb enough to get embarrassed by giving up on a project with a bad start, but later, it's a good, beloved time that is 5 decades later for the Edsel (which is now). Here's the truth why Edsel failed: It failed, because Ford is a dumb company that doesn't know how to take care of a new car company. Edsels were poorly-made, because Ford didn't used what he learned from creating Mercury and Lincoln, by building the Mercury and Lincoln factories. Ford should've made the Edsel factory. I love the front-end grille design, I don't want to change it, but dumb Ford removed the unique, artistic grille in 1960, and they forget one design-related thing: the 1959 Pontiac had a toy named "the split grille idea," and showed it to everyone, before Ford did it. What Ford did even more dumb, is that the Edsel was too expensive, and people hated the price of that thing. Ford, you fool, before you start Edsel, make the Edsel cheaper than Ford, and not make the pricing of the Edsel the same as the Ford and Mercury models prices. That's my "Guess of Success". Ford, You should have released the Edsel earlier than 1955, or lower, and called the new car, Edsel, earlier than 1957, 'cause sadly, the Edsel was as poorly-timed, which people wanted compact and fuel-efficient cars. You also should have made Edsel compact cars and fuel-efficient cars, Ford. That's kind of all my reasons why Ford is so dumb, he can't take care of a new car company, after he made the new car company. Ford, more like Foolish On Receiving Dollars.
Fun fact: the 1960 Comet(not Mercury) was to be the next Edsel. But Ford had enough with the negativity surrounding the Edsel so they pulled the plug on it in Nov. of '59. Also the Edsel was to be a bridge model between the Ford and the Lincoln. That didn't work because the cheapest Edsel was the same price as the most expensive Ford and the most expensive Edsel cost as much as the cheapest Mercury.
@@richardrice8076 It would be nice if the Edsel car brand didn't die.
@@IAmAnAdowablePanto2190 you'd have to talk to the blue oval folks. The Mark II and the Edsel were two major Fomoco missteps in the '50's. It would have been interesting if they chose to carry on with the Edsel, would people have fallen in love with a compact version of that car?
People did not buy the car because they were junk.
YOU ARE SO HANDSOME
Looking at it from today's eyes that is a gorgeous looking car. And that two tone colour scheme looks stunning. So many features that were ahead of the time, including the custom radio built into the dash, that alone must have been 30+ years ahead of the times.
