In this video, I try out xTool's newest laser, the M1 Ultra. This is a diode laser that you can purchase with a 10 or 20 watt laser head. The thing that makes this laser different from others is that it has several functions - laser cutting and engraving, blade cutting, pen marking, foiling, and even printing. Check out my video to see how it worked for me.
Hello, what settings did you use for foiling? I could not find any information on xtool website related to foiling, and my foiling on pu leather turned out mediocre. I am using xtool foiling sheets with my M1 ultra.
I just used the settings that the machine set for me when I selected foiling. Since the PU Leather is thicker and kinda smushy, I would increase the pressure from what you used last time. Do you have any scraps you can use for testing out settings?
Why is the diode laser not preferable?
A diode laser can do a lot of different things. However, CO2 lasers are faster and can cut/engrave clear/light colored acrylics whereas diode lasers cannot. But, the price of a CO2 laser is a LOT more than a diode laser. I have been using another diode laser that came with air assist and I have been very happy with it for a diode laser.
Thanks Marilyn, that's a really useful look at the M1 Ultra.
Thank you so much!
THE XTOOL COMPANY NEED TO HIRE YOU TO SPEAK ON THERE PRODUCTS. SEE YA ON THE NEXT ONE.
How does the laser know where to cut around the printed area?
When you are working in the software, you place your cut file around the image and the computer/laser communicate to let the laser know where to cut. I could do a video showing this on the software.
@@MakingwithMarilyn that would be awesome and so very helpful! I have my notifications on!
I wonder if the wood was primed with some white paint if the image would show up better?
Yes, I believe it would. It says it paints on porous surfaces, so I would probably use something like a chalk paint.
@@MakingwithMarilyn I will have to try it. Maybe you could make a video trying different techniques. I just ordered mine and am so excited to start. I have the Xtool P2 so I will primarily use this as the printing on items and maybe cutting vinyl etc. I agree with you on not wanting to use the laser in the same area as the "clean" stuff. Plus the P2 is soooo much faster.
@@JACQUELINECYR I LOVE my P2!
Very thorough demo and insightful thoughts on this. It would be very handy for crafty-type hobbies, such as board game designing.
Thanks Gene!!!
Great and informative video. i would like to know if the company offers customer support. What happens if something is not working.?
I have never had a problem with any of their products so have not tried to contact their customer service. I see they have a Customer Service hotline, but I can't say how responsive they are since I've never had to use it. Maybe someone else in the comments has had experience with them.
@@MakingwithMarilyn Thanks.
Well I've ordered the M1 ultra package, the second tier one and it's been sent in 4 different deliveries (not ideal at all). The customer service responded within 8 hours of sending an email complaint, but I'm in the d UK.
@@bcynical thanks for sharing your experience with xTool
Ashlee Falco used Liquitex Gesso Surface Prep on wood printing with her M1 Ultra review and achieved really good results.
Thank you Lance!

Hi Marilyn great explanation of the machine! It did a really good job cutting the black acrylic earrings. But, it would be a "not right" for my craft room.

xTool packages really well!
They really do, don't they? Love their packaging.
Your very clever in what you do. I don't do this and have never seen a machine like this, but I loved watching this video. Thank you Marilyn.
Thank you very much!
Thank you for the video Marilyn.. I’m using a different laser but this was a great tutorial. ❤
@@Ladybear06 thanks Stacy!
Your opinions were good, especially the size of the space for cutting compared to an actual cutter, allowing 2ft of cutting space. That is definitely something to consider.
@@MsBecky7227 thank you MsBecky.
Hey Marilyn, catching the replay Hun!
@@passionatelyintriguedarts hi Tracy! Thanks for checking out the video!
