Thank you so much! Gave me the ability to stream from my phone in stereo pair. Learning to use Sonos and appreciate it abilities along with its limitations is a real experience but once you get used to using the pairs in this way, it’s a game changer for me.
Just want to mention, and what I am weighing in terms of Airplay vs. Sonos, is that you can Airplay from a Mac computer to Sonos speakers and use your mobile device as a "controller" via the Apple remote app. The main difference with this method being you would open the different apps to control the music as opposed to opening the Sonos app.
Ben, we are working on video explaining your options however I have no timeframe for that to be finished. For now, the "On my iPhone/iPad" section is gone since it has become unreliable with recent iOS changes. See the Sonos support article support.sonos.com/s/article/2922?language=en_US You do have a few options for Podcasts. You can load them on a computer through iTunes, then they are available under the Music Library option. Or you can subscribe via another app (tune in, iHeart, Stitcher and others support podcasts). Finally if you have a newer Sonos speaker you can use Airplay to send the podcast to a sonos speaker directly in the Podcast App on your iPhone. Hope this helps.
So for the Apple TV you wouldn't be able to airplay Atmos, however that would be an unusual setup. For the Apple TV 4K you should connected it to the TV, then the Sonos Arc to the HDMI ARC port. If your TV is newer and supports eARC it should pass the Atmos sound from the Apple TV to the Sonos Arc, if not you would be limited to 5.1 sound. Our demo TV is a Samsung Q90T and I can confirm it does pass Atmos from the Apple TV 4K to the Sonos Arc.
It was not 100% clear to me: if I combine a HomePod with Sonos speakers in the Home app, will it continue to play music when my iPhone is not connected? And secondly can I use two Sonos speakers in stereo mode?
If it is grouped with a HomePod then they should follow whatever the HomePod does. So if you activate the music via siri to the HomePod then it should keep playing just like the HomePod does.
These videos are great but this is why it’s not true airplay 2 on Sonos which has annoyed me. Unlike HomePod or Apple TV which are true airplay 2. Spotify Connect works fine. A good work around is to airplay from an Apple TV (or HomePod) to your Sonos and you can close and reopen your music app. The HomePod solution is less ideal as you get audio delay between the two but Apple TV no issues as wont play unless TV/Amp is on.
What's the difference? As far as I'm aware, the HomePod works the same way with AirPlay 2. If you get out of wifi range, the music will stop after it's reached its max buffer.
Cand Lurn no. The HomePod streams directly from the cloud if you’re using Apple Music. It means in the same way with Spotify connect your phone is just a remote control and it doesn’t matter where you are once you start it. Also this means you’re not draining battery life of your phone by streaming from it.
This is exactly the info I was looking for in this videos, having the Apple TV streaming without the phone is awesome, I was thinking about getting a Sonos Beam, but now I think getting a "dumb" soundbar + apple tv is the way to go... do you think or know if any other Airplay2 speaker is capable of doing this "true" Airplay? or is it limited to Apple devices?
Beto RN only Apple devices at the moment in terms of true AirPlay 2. You could hook up a Apple TV to the beam via hdmi direct but that’s expensive! Currently the best way to get true airplay 2 is to get hold of an airport express last version. Of course now these have gone up like £100 because of that on eBay in the UK. Might have more joy elsewhere! CEX here still selling at £35 but obviously haven’t any in most of the time!
Beto RN I’ve gone that route with a sky soundbox and Apple TV. As long as your sound bar has multiple inputs it will work. Shame older Apple TV with optical not got airplay 2 as loved splitting off the audio (or Apple had kept optical on this one!) as not many amps are 4 k hdr compatible

Best part was you knowing all the Disney tunes :)
This put my daughter to sleep! Cheers!

What if you lock the screen of the phone after connecting to sonos, playing UA-cam video. Will it still play
Can you do a video to help explain the recent changes; no longer able to play podcast from an iPhone. Thanks

Congratulations, you were half right on how this works.
Great explanation. Thanks for the follow-up!
Can you airplay from Apple TV 4K to Sonos arc and send Dolby Atmos signal from Apple TV 4K to Sonos Arc. Did you able to test this feature?

Is there is there anyway you can watch youtube videos on a pc computer and have the sound come through the new sonos one SL
no, and this is why Sonos sucks

That was painful to watch
Am I able to to hook up homepods with the beam
Hi iZaia, Yes, through Airplay you can select both the Beam and the HomePod and play the same music to both simultaneously.
ComputerAdv and how do you do that? And also can you add them both for a more immersive experience watching movies?
I’m pissed that my $700 Playbar was not upgraded to support AirPlay!!! Such BS!
So true.
Pair with one of those cheap IKEA speakers - old speakers can piggy back of airplay 2 speakers
Thanks
It’s Airplay 2.
can you not afford a microphone ?
ZZZZzzzzzzzz.......
