I love when you do these. This is EXACTLY where all beginner pilots NEED to start.
Thank you! I appreciate that. Yes, every pilot needs to start with the basic boring orientations that nobody likes to do, but it is a huge, huge stepping stone.
Very nice to see I am not the only one who flies with thumbs and index fingers like that :D
I personally call it hybrid flying, but to me that’s the most precise and accurate way to fly, but everybody has their own opinion and what feels best for them.
Thank you Jeff. This a a staple of heli flight and even though it doesn't have the glitter that 3d does, people seem to forget just how much they have learned just being able to keep it in 1 spot. It aint easy. These videos are great for everyone. Stick cam makes it even better.
100% agree!! What 3D pilots call the basics is still challenging and fun flying for us average heli guys ( like me lol).
Thank you for watching! Yes, everybody has their own skill level and what their goal is in the hobby. Some guys want to learn to smack some fly scare is wrong or way for what you enjoy flying.
Keep them coming, I would love to get a better grasp on how to do more maneuvers.
Very good video! But can you zoom a bit closer to the transmitter please, it a bit too small
Thank you! I will definitely zoom (or put the camera lower) for the following videos in the series.
I needed this so bad, but inverted lol😂 hopefully you consider that as well, also perhaps piroflips but the sim is good enough. Thanks man! 👍
I’m glad you enjoyed this video! I will definitely do a inverted video. The next one is going to be understanding combinations combining your Rudder with cyclic.
@westhobbiesrc8051 rudders always been a challenge for me but I've got the hang of slower movements, definitely look forward to your tutorial!
Great video Jeff this is needed, us novice flyers need all the help we can get
I would like to see a video of where you transition from positive to negative pitch when doing flips and inverted?
That is in the plans! Next video will be about combining your turns in that kind of thing and then after that will go into inverted flight and then flips
Great video bro. Perfect for beginners and heck for anybody flying. Boring for sure so so important. Thanks again for the great video.
Thank you! I appreciate it, it can definitely be boring, but it is very important and critical for anybody wanting to learn how to fly or to just practice.
Keep em coming, great advice for all levels of pilots. thanks for your videos
Thank you for watching! I will definitely make more videos to come!
This is going to be a great video series, thank you for sharing you’re amazing skills sir, thank you sir
I need this more than ever! I’m constantly trying but to no avail. If you do a series. Is it possible for the stick cam to be bigger? Maybe split the screen 50/50 so there’s more focus on the sticks
I will definitely make the stick cam bigger and move the camera closer so it is easier to see. Not sure if I will split screen 50-50 just because it would take away a lot of the flight, but I will see what I can do!
Hi, I agree to do full beginner series. Up to advanced maneuver. I personally struggle with circles
Jeff, the multi part series is a good idea and would be helpful, to many I’m sure, it was difficult to see the joystick 🕹 movements, perhaps 🤔 is was the low resolution I used watching, or maybe zoom in a little on the transmitter. 😊
I will definitely do a series! I’ll make sure to make the stick cam closer on the next one!
I remember those days my friend l , vividly .
So funny I can do this on my omp m2 but with my 400 size heli I’m only hovering 😂😂 gonna push myself a bit this weekend
Me too! My 420 definitely reacts quicker than my S1. The 420 still scares me lol
If you can do it with your M2, you can do it with any helicopter. The difference and problem becomes the size and you become scared of it. So I always recommend just keeping it a little farther away until you get used to it.
Thanks, great video. What would also be helpfull is discussion stick movements to counter drift, i.e., taps vs holding the stick in a specific direction. Also, what impact right stick movements have on altitude and how to counter with the left stick as well as the impact rudder movements have on the altitude, left/right, forward/backward
Thanks for this Jeff !
My opinion is that this type of videos are great for those starting in this hobby. I can tell you think and react very fast, for a begginer its a bit too fast. I know its boring but please bare with us and try to slow it down a bit. Just like the moment at 8:17 when you say to add a little forward at the end of the stall turn. Its details like this prevent us begginers from progressing faster.
Great video Jeff, a basic setup comparison between vbar and IX14 would be great 😊
One beginner mistake I made was with my quick release lanyard on the radio. I disconnected the lanyard and replaced the heli pack. I then just picked the radio up and began round 2 and the quick connector found it's way to block my left stick. Thankfully i only had to replace the landing skids and I always make sure to reconnect now😅
I really enjoyed this video and would like to see more. Maybe, as others have mentioned make the stick cam bigger and closer. Also I would like to know what heli and details like the blade speed please. I looked for these in a playlist but haven't found them yet. Thank-you for all you do for the hobby.
Thanks again for your time! These are essential and probably YOU have some of the furthest reach of anyone. The bailout plan is awesome, don't think ANYONE has done that....😮
I would buy ya coffee if I could!
And, if there were more individuals like you....side note: in the future hopefully you can delve into Rotorflight. I understand if it isn't in your wheel house yet. There are a couple dudes who do Rotorflight right now, but being a beginner FPV guy, your reach would be incredibly. Not saying you have to be into FPV, but this cross-pollination is exciting.
Thank you, Eric! I greatly appreciate that. My whole goal when I started this channel 2 1/2 years ago was to spread my knowledge and help each and everyone of you becomes successful at flying helicopters and being in the greatest hobby on this earth! I definitely want to get into Rotorflight, I have just been extremely busy getting ready for IRCHA and not had the time to sit down and learn and do it. But when I get back, I will definitely be digging into that. Having a bail out plan is very critical and will save you so much money and crashes.
@@westhobbiesrc8051 I appreciate you. One of the guys at the field let go of an Align 300X Dominator that he maintained and installed a FlyDragon F722 V2. In excellent condition and a good tune. I just put my rates and did a once through on the ELRS. It is awesome! I got it on a RadioMaster Zorro with a Jumper ELRS module. I am perhaps the oddest dude out there. I repurposed that controller for Helicopter use. To that end I also repurposed a TBS Tango 2 for Helicopter use too. Eventually I will use that Tango 2 with Crossfire on a Heli with TBS Crossfire, LoL.
I would really like a step by step. I am very new to rc helis and that would really help alot
Heya Jeff. Long time! Just happened to see this video. I got out of the game because I just couldn't get the hang of it. Crashes cost $$ and i have trouble building and setup a heli anyway. I wouldn't mind it if the crashes were..... less frequent lol. So needless to say.... a 20 parter would be awesome.
The thing that wasn't immediately obvious when I started, was you have to coordinate the sticks. So like when you want to turn or do circles, it's not just the rudder or ailerons, but the rudder and the ailerons, and pushing the stick forward and throttle and pitch, all of which need to be coordinated. Once I realised I needed rudder and ailerons, I was really pleased with myself, doing those scale turns, lol.
Yes sir! That is very critical and important to learn. That is actually going to be the next video is combining your turns and what that looks like.
I would absolutely love to get into 3d. Even had some mini's capable of 3d. Problem was it's just to expensive. Also after something broke I just didn't have the ability to repair it cause the 1 hobby shop we did have bout 40 miles away closed down. Now I just watch videos of people tearing it up!
I would recommend Freddy can fly flight school on UA-cam to see how small the stick commands are, when you panic you input bigger commands and get in a mess something to overcome.
I’m curious does realflight simulator work ? Also do you recommend starting on a small helicopter or does it matter.
Definitely! A simulator is a great tool to have no matter how good of a pilot you are or if you’re just starting. You will always go back to the same to practice new things before going out and doing it in real life. Have you flown before? Are you brand new to the hobby? my recommendation is always the goosky S2 RTF if you are just starting out. It is a fantastic little helicopter that you can grow with. It will do anything and everything from brand new hover to insane 3-D. What I always tell people is start on a smaller scale and then work your way up helicopters are not only expensive to fix in a crash but extremely dangerous and deadly.
Hey Jeff. Whats your preference radio stick tension ?
@@tannerdennard9647 hey Tanner, that’s really a personal preference but I like my sticks looser then most people do.
Recommend your viewers to NOT move from say 12 o'clock to 3 o'clock (or 90 degrees right) hover where the helicopter goes from tail in, to nose right. But instead, just move a few degrees to the right to where they are almost still seeing the helicopter at the 12 o'clock position. If we break up that 360 degrees to right 90, and break that down to right 45 and break that down to right 20, 10, 5 you are using minimal offsets to keep getting proficient. And they can also turn the copter, and turn the BODY a little so it almost still feels like tail in. This is good to mind trick you into being comfortable.
Yes, breaking up your four-point hover is critical but I highly recommend doing it at 90° increments as just kicking the tail 10 to 15° at a time is better in the long run but as you are learning can be a little bit more complicated. Not a terrible idea, but that first four points is the most important thing to learn, as you progress, especially with piros that you can start breaking down the increments of your flat hovering upright and inverted to better understand a piro hover
Actually the nose-in orientation was the easiest after tail-in, for me at least. Side ones were more confusing.
Also keep a good distance away from you and prepare to go tail in if you panic
Goblin Raw or Goblin Piuma, in your opinion?
@@jctgf they really are two different helis, what is your goal/flying style? If you want a light weight 700 for a 6s-12s setup go with the Piuma. If you want a true 700 for 12s or 14s then go with the regular RAW 700. Also, remember Piuma is only good for 2000 RPM and under.
Hey there!! I have a small issue that I could be just being dumb about, I’m building a mini comet and it’s the latest version. I have finished setting it up mechanically and I put a 4s in it, (I know it’s a 6s heli) I just wanted to used a smaller battery to have a nice relaxed flight for setup. For some reason it won’t spool up with 4s, it’s all Sab electronics, how do I make it so I can run 4s and 6s? Or is it just 6s?
@@The.Daily.Commuter hello! So the mini comet is a 6s only heli. The battery does meaning having a relaxed flight, that’s all in setup and head speed. The motor is KV low to accommodate the 6s voltage. The ESC is set to 6s so a 4s Lipo even fully charged will make the ESC think it’s in LVC and motor will not spin. Has to be 6s 1050mAh- 6s 1200mAh.
@@westhobbiesrc8051 thank you so much!!! I love your videos! I watch them every time you post, again thank you and happy flying friend!!!
Thanks Jeff And I want really a 20 video serie!
You’re welcome! Thank you for watching, I’ll see what I can do and how many videos I can make lol
