You know L is far superior to light because he was quickly killed after touching the notebook. If L would have been allowed to test the Death Note once, he would have dismantled all of Light's work from the beginning. Even still, after touching the death note, he was able to immediately deduce Light's plan.
I don’t get why people assumed and wanted Light to win. He tried to kill L because he called him evil. He was going to lose from the start in some fashion. The main character isn’t always the hero of the story.

In truth no. Originally it was supposed to end manga here, with kira winning, the author only continued because of pressure from the publisher

there was a Live action where L won by writting his own name on the deathnote to prevent Light writing his name there. That was the best ending imo.
