All have 4.0-litre V8 engines with two turbochargers attached, and all are big executive cars, and all have four-wheel drive, but beyond that they go about things in slightly different ways, as we'll explain.
But only one can be quickest through 60mph, 100mph, a standing 1/4 mile and a standing 1/2 mile. Question is, which one?

Very poor start on the M5. If you're going to upload these type of videos at least make sure you upload a drag with a fair start and all cars driven by competent drivers. This is coming from an E63s fan
ASRmann the E63 had the worst start of them all, but made up for it immediately. You can check the replays in slow motion
The thing is the M5 has a inferior launch control that seriously puts the torque converter and transmission at risk if you hold it too long. It got spanked fair and square.
I thought the same thing until the slow motion replay. They all got off the line petty much the same time, the Porsche just walked them. As mentioned, the LC in the M5 is pretty weak. The E63S is just a monster.
ASRmann 3:19 you can see lots of wheel spin in the M5 at the front axle... The AWD system search poorly the traction sending too much power to the front axle.
ASRmann seriously. Like why do all the other Motorsport reviews get a 0-60 time of under 3 sec and they are over 3 sec for both the M5 and the e63s 🤔🤔
M5 - 1/4 tank of fuel
Panamera - ~ 1/2 tank of fuel
E63 - 3/4 tank of fuel
Let’s standardize that in the future for accuracy fellas.
M5 is under 11s on 1/4 mile.. Competition is even faster. E63s is also 11.1s 1/4 mile. Bad start, low grip and maybe bad settings.. Both E63s and M5 are doing 0-60 under 3 seconds. There are many videos in youtube M5 vs E63s and most of the times the M5 is a bit faster, but sometimes is the E63s. From what i saw on the internet, the M5 is a bit faster from stand to 1/4 mile and E63s is faster on higher speed rolling starts. M5 is lighter but E63s has more torque.. And they are really close to each other. Both cars are great, but this is the slowest time i've ever seen for both cars... You guys are doing something wrong :D

The Bmw launch control had not even shifted the car's weight when the voice said go. The Porsche left the line first and the BMW last.

You just Ran M5 slower than M760Li to quarter mile.
M760li does is 11.6 or 7~ seconds
11,3 and it's faster than RS6 Xd
M5 is capable of driving quarter mile on 11.1 secs. so this result is definitely not representable. check out other more serious comparisons for that.
People have done 10.9s, even on the road. It depends on the surface but 11.58s is definitely much slower than the car is capable of on a sunny day unless it's uphill

Very poor start from the M5 driver, useless posting a drag race video if you can't launch properly and do a fair test. Porsche was definitely quicker, but between the M5 and E63S it would have been a closer battle if M5 driver had launched properly. To be fair Matt, you seem to lose every drag race in the car you're driving!

an f10 m5 has a DCT ( double clutch gearbox) , so it can hold the revs while one clutch is disengaged, and the other clutch holds first gear, so it keeps the engine at the right rpm's for the best launch... foot of the brake an go at the exact right rev's.
the new m5 has an automatic wit torque converter, meaning it cant hold the car in first gear, while having the other clutch disengaged for building revs at the optimum level for a launch.
it's actually a kind of line lock, it holds the front brakes, and let's the rear wheels start to spin a little for a better launch, so if you launch it, you still have to feather and match the throttle at the exact moment for the best launch.
its not a "real" launch control, thats just not possible with a torque converter, it's mimicking a launch control system.

The m5 wasn’t launched properly I don’t think the e63 was either, they both have had much faster launch times (in other publications for example m5 has been clocked at 2.8 to 60mph)

A S yes I did watch the carwow video. That’s when it started looking fishy to me. Other than this video and carwow almost every other video shows the M5 to be faster. Either the drivers messed up the launch , maybe Matt was biased or maybe it was just luck. But the M5 is lighter and has the same amount of power but the Mercedes has more torque. In the real world I’m sure the M5 is faster. But it all comes down to the launch. Which is clearly messed up here.

I own an E63 S Estate and for Race start [launch control] you put it in Sport, Sport + or race and you just floor the brake and the throttle for the people reviewing this car to get this wrong really shows how much they actually reviewed the car.
These are all super quick… but 54 years ago in 1970, the Porsche 917 got to 125mph in 5.4s.

Horrible launch by the driver of the M5. It and the Merc are always much closer.
Saw the video and went straight to the comments to see if I was the only one who felt that the test was unfair nice to see people agree.
BM fanboys were let down a bit by the "uber M5" displaying the worst, breakable launch control due to it not being a real clutch disengage - more like a torque load and then finally the 4 wheel drive system with the front wheels spinning displaying poor torque vectoring, not to mention it is supposed to be a rear wheel bias 4wd....back to the drawing board.
why are you guys racing an E63S with a regular M5? Why not an E63 vs an M5? Why not against an M5 competition? I smell bias

The Competition is just released so it couldn't make it...Also the m5 and the 63s cost the same...comp. pack is more expensive..Also the 63s was released in 2016 so it's been a long wait for the Merc..

Electric power delivery is no joke. Plus, at higher speeds the weight doesn't matter that much, but the power does. And Panamera has a good advantage on that.
Mzn T true. In fact at high speeds the extra weight makes the car more stable. I see now why AMG are working on their own V8 Hybrid “73” powertrain.
It will be the intermediary step until the inevitable. Full electric. Everyone is getting or will be getting on-board with that.
I know, lets enjoy combustion engines whilst we still can :( Although with cars like the Porsche Taycan, the electric future doesn't seem all that bad either. I'm sure Porsche/Mercedes/BMW/etc.... will make some fun electric sports cars.
Plus, unless regulators will ban the internal combustion engine, there are plenty of older, used cars to choose from. I can quickly name a few tens that I would own in a heartbeat, if I had the chance :). So, I'm not concerned that I will run too soon out of options. Add to that the fact that I'm not a big fan of post 2000s cars anyway.

So many people fighting over which car is faster. E63s or M5.... Does it really matter if one is 0.1 seconds faster 0-100 than the other? Just appreciate how good both of these cars are and enjoy them!
Every other race I've seen, launch or rolling, the M5 has beat the E63S. Pretty poor test I must say

Shane D An airfield isn't exactly the ideal surface for a drag race so it doesn't surprise me that the cars here posted slower times than some reviewers get on a drag strip.
But the mercedes was good too
You can clearly see (in the SloMo shot) that the M5 bogged down immediately after setting off.
The Porsche did a headstart so of course it did well in this run ;)

What a terrible launch from M5. If you upload this type of video, please at least repeat the test once more. To draw conclusions from a single (and badly timed) Lauch is not trustworthy. That's all 🙂
In so many words the M5 driver said that he was going to have a hard time launching the M5 properly. With that said, that’s why it was so far behind.

Porsche were too scared to send the normal combustion engine of the Panamera Turbo because they knew it would loose so they sent the version that is not a direct competitor to the BMW or the Merc.
NM I think it’s more a case of sending the “S” variant of their car just like Mercedes also did. Which Means the m5 competition pack would be more of a fair comparison really.
