This reminds me about 14 years ago the day I quit skating for years until now. I was having a picnic with my girl at a park and had my skateboard in the car so I pull out the board and start trying to re-learn how to Ollie again after not skating since I was a teen, so I do a few decent Ollie's and my girl goes "see, you can still skate even though it's been so long...." So I decided to Ollie off the curb, it goes good, Ollie back up, also goes good. Somehow I managed to get a little crowd of kids all sitting in the grass by my girl like 6 little boys about 8-10 and they are going "ooooh", "awwww", "WOAH!", just like the kids in this video, all of a sudden I decided to really give em a show and attempted a kickflip off the curb and it looked pretty cool, until I landed primo and rolled my ankle 😂😂😂
I hopped up threw my board in the car and said"hey babe we gotta go I forgot I have to do something!".... So we get in the car and start driving out of the park and she said "dude, are you okay? The kid's were enjoying you skate... What happened?"
I said "I twisted my ankle so bad I had to leave while things were still chill, I need to cry SO BAD, I just didn't want those kids to see because they were vibing and I didn't want to switch the vibes!" 😂😂😂
I quit skating then 14 years ago but recently thought about that day and how the kid's thought I was good even though all I can do is Ollie lol but I am 40 now and just recently bought a new board because I had a dream I was skating and shredding shit up hahaha, I was flipping over everything, hitting every rail, I woke up and told my girl "We gotta go to the skate shop, I need a board!"... She said "But you have your old one still!" I'm like "Dude that old world industries board is so old I need some new shit, and NOW!" 😂😂😂
I got a new board and I'm trying to learn new stuff so I can do more than an Ollie and a deadly kickflip 🤣

I’ve been to Shrimptown once while visiting Sykesville. Nearby Montgomery County is building five new skateparks, which I’m helping with as part of the public input.

Dan how different are eastcoast and westcoast styles ? And then theres Texas and Ohio styles. lol I know in the late 90's early 2000s eastcoast was gnarly dirty ruff street stuff. I guess now a days most of these kids development a park style until there old enough for the wild. The first video I seen of you back in the van days, I knew you were a eastcoast guy. I think it was just your mission state of mind. California skaters are like 200 miles for a long curb with a bump ? Theres a spot 5 min from my house. Stay Golden Danboy.

shrimptown's alright but it's pretty small and not maintained super well, especially compared to the parks in the balt/wash corridor. landsdowne, laurel, and shaw are my favorites when i have time to make the trip. surprised to see local spots on a big channel like this, knew i recognized the weird volcano in the thumbnail.
kids at shrimptown tend to be pretty clueless but i cant really blame them since western MD is really lacking in skateparks so im not surprised there aren't a lot of skate dads/moms. like it or not it's a public space and id rather see a regular flow of new skaters keeping the culture healthy than have skateparks all to myself for the rest of time.
All those scooter, kids and roller skaters were giving me anxiety. I don't understand why parents would take a kid to a skatepark just to let them get in everyone's way then complain if they get run over. I'd be cool with it if they were trying to actually do tricks. But they're just going back and forth like they would in front of their house. Drives me bonkers!

As a father and a skater I can promise you I’m teaching my kids that the skate park is not a play ground and that when it’s being used it needs to be used properly and by skill as well not everybody can walk in but you gotta start somewhere and also learn I hate parents that throw them in and expect nothing to happen when in reality they should be right there teaching them to wait turns watch all around and be ready for anything ❤
As crazy as it is, that's the next gen right there. The next legend is rolling thru a skatepark today on a scooter with a dinosaur helmet on.
