If you watch the full footage, she's actually not covering it up. She just saw her Sgt there and wanted him to intervene. (Which is what he did.) She kept her camera on the whole time and talked to the guy a little bit and has a bit of a sad life story so I feel for her.

He resigned? If this isn't grounds for firing, what the hell is? Now he'll just get another job a couple towns over. Disgusting.
He's also facing criminal charges. He resigned before they could fire him. Government is slow.
He can also get a job at the correctional facility in Salisbury
They allow officers to resign because after a criminal trial if he is found not guilty he can fight to get his job back. His defense attorney could make the case more about how the suspect acquired so much money other than the officer stealing. If there is no criminal charges only a failure of department policy some officer fight it after a cooling off period, and they realized that can’t make the same money & benefits with their skill set.
As a matter of fact many officers fired for misconduct sue to get their job and more than you think are reinstated. From claiming improper training to alcohol use on duty claiming ADA- American Disability Act (alcohol is a disease). Allowing them to resign they cannot fight to get their job back. Here they elected for criminal charges on top of resignation, which will hold him accountable. When found guilty or a plea he won’t be able to carry a gun.
I don’t know if the prosecution can use the fact he resigned so show a level of accepting the charge against him.
I think resignation should require the revoking of Peace Officer rights so he cannot work somewhere else. Some UA-cam creators have the full video where he confesses to superiors. He won’t be able to overcome that in this case.
They don't get fired, resigning is getting fired.
The incident why he got fired is a permanent marking in the records.
So, in this case, his career is done, which is good news.
Especially with making news like this. No one is going to hire him anymore.
