It was so frustrating to watch, because he could've easily lived if he walked right, but he INSISTED on trying to path through the minions, and died for his stubbornness.

He is suppose to miss the cannons so they don't focus him when fights are super close on a few HP. it's a trade off.
Morg mid has always been like this. The opponent just doesn't get to do whatever they were planning to do. You strictly enforce a farm lane. You can't be poked really, you can't be pushed in, and you almost can't be ganked due to Black Shield. Ever since they changed Galio, she has been 100% the safest mid laner in the game.
What about Teemo? he can poke her pretty good and evade the pool with his move speed
Her and malz tilt enemy laners by just farming

Start with Doran's ring for the extra AP early, then sell later. Max Q>W>E. Ult is actually not that influent, but you may throw in a Demonic Embrace to ramp up its damage.
Generally the strategy would be to stack Grasp and Heartsteel as much as possible while dealing a ton of damage with the empowered auto. Swain gets a lot of bonus HP from its passive, and also it heals every time for 9% total health at level 18.
You should do a full AP Ahri someday too ^^
