That poor little old harmonica..He done ripped the guts outta that thing with that performance! The man has phenomenal control, chops and above all else, unshakeable poise. I hope to become one hundredth as good as him in my lifetime.
He's performing tonight at Rosa's Blues Bar in Chicago on Armitage Avenue. Great place to check out if you're ever in the city. I was there once when Eric Clapton dropped in unexpectedly and joined in on stage after a few drinks. Sugar Blues show starts at 10 PM
Saw this guy here in Brazil about 25 years ago; same weird leather belt full of harps, same incredible musicality. One of the best gigs I ever saw. Sugar Blue is definitly a master of his craft.
Blues harp wizard ! I saw him play live a long time ago (prob late 70s) in Osaka. I still remember him as a mind-boggling harpist. He was already dubbed as the Hendrix of harmonica then. And I remember he was such a friendly guy that he came over to our table after the show and we had a pleasant chat. But I don't remember him as such a good singer as well. The Little Walter of today.
tayskat! You have heard this guy before. He was the harp player on Rolling Stones "Miss You" Pure, rarified G E N I O U S!!! Thanks Sugar! KennyBe, harpin' since '66.
Holy macaroni! That... that is amazing! Sometimes, I wish I was born during this time. Just 14 and I wish I could listen to this without being called weird. :)
Sugar ,,mate im an aussie harp player 25 years on the circuit,,man you just inspired me as if i was in my first year of playin all over again,,man you need to come downunder,,Pete
I used to play this guy alot on a blues radio show I had awhile back...rippin....good to see some video...He was one of John Popper's mentors from Blues Traveler....what's great about SB is that he slows down, uses dynamics as opposed to Poppers relentless barrage of note...thanks for putting this up..I hear that Asian guitar player is a killer too...
This proves why Sugar Blue is one of the greatest harp players who ever lived. In terms of rapid-fire versatility, speed and clarity of hitting each note, the only person I can compare him to as being on the same level is John Popper of Blues Traveler.
Why haven't I heard about this guy before? I'm CEO of a charity who inspires young kids into music and we do harp jams for kids. This guy is killing me!
Yesterday I heard a guy playing the most beautiful melodies on a harmonica I have ever heard. And I had to ask him if there's some way I could listen more to his music. He said he had uploaded some songs to youtube. If you like the sound of the harmonica, search for Patrik Bergström Like everything else, this may change. I just wanted to share this with you.
@WhateverIsCatchy You are not weird, you just have too much class for your age. Merry Christmas and keep listening to the blues as American as the Zydeco.
@tayskat [in the late 1970s Blue traveled to Paris, France. This led to him playing on several The Rolling Stones tracks ("Some Girls", "Send It to Me" and the aforementioned "Miss You"). ]
The ARTIST IS SUGAR BLUE! Get his name straight! It's SUGAR BLUE! The comments here are mind blowing. He's my friend, blues brother and a fellow harmonica player. So if you don't know by now, learn it and remember it. SUGAR BLUE!
Sugar Blue is the Master, I first heard him on vinyl many yeas ago. Never saw anything by him in music shops in England so I sent to the U.S. I was told by a blues 'expert' that he had died of a drugs overdose over 20 years ago, which was a bit of an exageration. He's still alive an playing in Chigago.

I hope to become one hundredth as good as him in my lifetime.
He has the breath to take yours away! Thanks for the pleasure.
