Great box, and excellent job explaining what you did!! I would be interested in the plans for this project.
Hello Troy... thanks for the comments! Here you go - release.vectric.com/gentlemans-valet-box/
Great work Todd, love the compass design...
Thanks, Marcel!!! Hope all is well!!!
I can't wait to make one of these.
Thanks, let us know how it goes!
@@CNCminiProjects I am 90% finished. It turned out OK. Once I finish this first "prototype," I will use better wood. I bought some lovely Poplar. I had to tweak the design to work with the local wood I could source. The 3d Top looks amazing.
Cool, thank you!
No problem! Thanks for your kind comment!
I would like the plans. Great design!
Thanks for the comment! It is almost ready for release so keep your eyes peeled!!! Ill make a post when it is ready,
Excited... here is a link to the free project so you can download it and "Make It Your Own"! release.vectric.com/gentlemans-valet-box/
Very nice I'd like the plans,Thanks
Took a moment to understand what was going on at 12:32. I reckon you are putting a support block under the base/floor. Thanks for the view! I like the concept of laying it out first. I will need to incorporate that in my planning.
Hi Billy, that is a test bit of wood we had to check the pocket holes are big enough for it to all slot together. Hopefully this makes sense. Thanks
Thanks to those who made the files available.
You are very welcome David! Enjoy!
I would like the files to make my own. thanks.
I would like the files to make my own . thanks
Thank for the comment!!! Love that there are so many that would like the plans so they can "Make it their Own"!!!
Thanks for the comment!!! We will see what we can do!

I use stainless screws first to create a thread for the brass screws then your not as app to break one. Nice video!
That is a great idea... I really should have given that a go. Next time... :) Thanks for the incite and comment!
Hi, I would love the files to make this! I appreciate you showing the mistakes and what you suggest to fix it.
Here you go - release.vectric.com/gentlemans-valet-box/ :)

5 thumbs down...? I guess it's true. Some men just want to watch the world burn. :) Nice video, thank you. :)
I noticed that you are using the CraftCNC offered on Design and Makes web page, did you build this yourself? If so I would like to discuss the construction of it with you, if you didn't build it do you know who did? I am going to build one and it would be nice to get feedback from someone who has already gone through the process.
Hello, Clyde thanks for the comment. I did build it using the free plans and a bit of help from the "CraftCNC Guru" at Vectric. If you email me I will see if I can answer your questions and if not he can... :)
Nice Job and video Todd. It's rare when things turn out perfect, But that's ok, as long as we love what we do, who cares...
Thaks for that!!!! Yup... I sure like this kind'a stuff!!!

Nice project. I would try and make one if the plans were free. Do you or did you work for Vectric?
Thanks for the comment. Design and Make is a Vectric Company so yup... I do.

That's a really nice project, think I'll add it to my list.
And the cork looks great 👍
Thank you Acer!
Please consider posting the cutting files, or at least the dimensions and angles used
Thanks, David!!! We will have a chat about the best way to get this to you all if we can. Excellent comment... Thanks :)

Not sure if you saw but the files have been available for a bit now. Enjoy!!!
Great looking box. Would like to make one as with everyone else that has commented. I do share your pain with the screws, it’s happened to most of us. Thanks for making the files available, I saw them on your web site and plan on making one. Oh, just a hint with the screws, I roll the screws on a wax candle, makes them go in easier. Thanks again.
Wax... yes... I should have tried that... darn it!!!! Thanks, for the great comment!!!
Thanks for the mistakes, I beat myself up on every project when, not if, I make my collection of them. Glad to know someone else has the same problem.
:)
Glad to know even the experts have trouble sometimes, I always wonder if what I see in the in the preview will actually turn out in the wood I have to use or will be using. I am still very new to cnc routing, and have constant mistakes or broken bits from hitting a hold down I was sure would be out of the way.
Believe me... I make mistakes all the time. I'd like to say I learn from each and never make them again... but well... I've made many of my mistakes more then once... :)
I was looking for a project to test out wood filament for my 3D printer, and I think that would be a great way to make internal components (change slots, cellphone cradle etc..) This has totally inspired me to do a valet box. Cork lining was a genius stroke I never would have thought of. +1 thanks for the awesome video!
Thanks for that great comment!!! Please be sure to share your finished box, with the extra 3D printed bits... that would be a great upgrade!!! Thanks again.
I would love to make one. Count me in on the plans. Thanks in advance Jim
Excellent!!!! They are almost done... so keep your eyes peeled!!!
Have they released the plans yet?
Almost there... should be very soon!

Lovely project. As ex navy guy, i cann't thing of better project for myself and would appreciate a copy of the files if available. Keep up the you tube side as I'm learning a lot.
Hi Andy the files are here along with some more information on the project: www.vectric.com/vectric-community/free-projects/in-the-labs/GentlemansValetBox hope this helps, thanks!
7”???? Is that a cnc for ants?
Hello Al... with lots of people having "small" shops, nowadays, a tiny CNC is perfect from making crafts, appliques for projects, last-minute gifts or just seeing if it fits into their woodworking workflow. Hey, I totally get that having a larger format machine opens doors to production style work and of course larger projects. One thing that you do get from a small format CNC is the ability, normally, to use smaller cutters so finer detail is possible. In the end... if I had space a nice 4'x8' machine would have been nice!!! :) Thanks for the comment.
Design and Make CNC Projects noted.... it was just a joke from a movie though. Don’t take it so serious.
@@TPNL1 LOL... I did not get the reference... :)
I’d be interested in the file
Great video. Beautiful box. Would love it if you could share those files.
Hello Edgardo, thank you for the comment. The project is available through this link - www.vectric.com/vectric-community/free-projects/in-the-labs/GentlemansValetBox
very nice project. If you decide to make the plans available would be great.
Thanks for sharing your process and the results.

Very nice instructional video. Appreciate the discussion about what you would do differently. Thank you for posting.
Thanks, Dave! I always like to share my mistakes... because I assume if I'm going to make them, then someone else sure will. Also, it is a great way to get a discussion going on how to deal with the problems I ran into. Thanks again for the comments!

Thank you.
Not a problem! Enjoy!
Very nice project. Something I learned when installing brass screws, drill pilot hole then use a steel screw to make a threaded hole then install the brass screws.
Hello Ronald... never thought of using the steel screws to make the treads... well done! I'll use that approach next time! Good tip.
And use a wax on the threads as well!
@@sappoman626 Thanks for that... yeah... that would have helped for sure. My Father always used to rub the screws on a bar of soap... wish I had thought of that one!
Awesome project, very nice. My son-in-law in a Navy man. Currently out to sea. He will be home for Christmas and this will be perfect gift. I am thinking the Anchor instead of the compass. Either would be appropriate.
Very nice project, well presented and I will be making one or more of these.
Wow, what a great Christman present... not the box but having your son-in-law home for the holidays. I know it is early... but enjoy the time!
Thanks for the comment!!! Please send us a few pictures of the finished boxes we would love to see them!
Very nice I would like the plans

Great video. Good looking final build, love the finish sheen on it. Varnish or hard wax/oil?
Neat little CNC, shame the size constraints, but considering you were carving hard maple. Your Dremel/Spindle handled it well!
I often think time spent contour cutting full panel shape from a piece of wood would be better spent 2 mins on table saw, but the ability to do precision cuts/rebates or dadoes without specific Dado set is bonus itself
Hello John, and thanks for the comment. It was varnish... and I have to say it does look nice (I'm not a finisher, so when something I make turns out with a nice finish, I'm pretty happy). Yes, that little CNC did a good job, I needed to be patient, but it was worth the wait. I am a big fan of using your CNC like another tool in the shop, so if you have a table saw and can prep the panel before putting it on the CNC, that would have saved time. These little CNCs are perfect for adding little details, not making a full kitchen table.. LOL. Thanks again... ~Todd
I'd like to make the box.

I would love to have the files for this box, good job. It's really helpful that you pointed out all of the things you would do different next time. Seems you never finish tweaking things,
Hello Ken... you can download the files from here - www.vectric.com/vectric-community/free-projects/in-the-labs/GentlemansValetBox
Hope that helps... and you are 100% correct... always room for a few tweaks... next time.. :) ~Todd

Hey Russ... Welcome to the exciting world of CNC!!!! You can get the files from this link - www.vectric.com/vectric-community/free-projects/in-the-labs/GentlemansValetBox
Have fun!!! ~Todd
The hinge screw problem is well-known among woodworkers. It's very common because most brass hinges use brass screws, which are very soft and weak. Screw the hinges on with the same size STEEL screw, going in almost full depth. Then back out the steel screw (which you can use again and again) and drive in the brass hinge screw. It will hold and you won't break it or strip it out. Cheers.
Thanks for that. Live and learn I say!!! I should have done that for sure.
I would be interested in these files. Just a note you could remove the lid and plane down the underside a bit to bring the top down even with the legs. Just saying! Great video
Excellent idea and I did think of that but all I have is a hand planer and I'm not so good at using that (need some practice) ;) Also I could have taken a bit off the back panel... seeing as I saw the error when I was dry fitting it all together. Thanks for the comment!!!

Very nice project.... but you talk too much
Thanks for the comment. I have been told I do tend to "ramble" on every now and again. Sometimes it is hard to get across all of the information in the video and I don't want to leave anything important out. Ill keep your comment in mind. :)
