Orcs, who were originally added into fantasy by Tolkein (who openly stated he despised allegory), were stated to be a corrupted form of another type of being, elves. They were literally to be an incarnation of evil and corruption, they were not meant to be derived from a real world equivalent, which, I'll reiterate again, Tolkein went out of his way to avoid.

Iirc orcs if they could be more closely compared to a real human group isnt a particular race but the group of the huns, who were known for their conquest, murder, and destruction they brought from what I remember.

Yeah despite Tolkien having Orcs in appearance look like Mongol raiders (for that matter why do people defend those particular people despite Mongols like Ghengis Khan being mass murderers? Not Mongolians in general but the Mongol raiders from ancient times?) but his other discussions and writings show that his Orcs are a metaphor more of the human condition and bloodthirst. He described soldiers and officiers he met during both World Wars as being Orcs. In his scrapped sequel for Lord of the Rings he had Orcs and people glorifying and playing as them to be a thinly veiled allegory for Nazis and Neo Nazis.

"Of the orcs, the Uruk-Hai are described as "black and a smaller orc, a tracker, is described as "black-skinned". All orcs are often described as "slant-eyed" and the Uruk-Hai at least refer to the Rohirrim as 'white skins.' In Letter 210, Tolkien described Orcs as "...squat, broad, flat-nosed, sallow-skinned, with wide mouths and slant eyes; in fact degraded and repulsive versions of the (to Europeans) least lovely Mongol-types"
Whilst humans in fantasy stories, are depicted as 'normal', medieval Europeans, particularly with Tolkien. Tolkien based this on pseudo-science and based it on real life races. It doesn't really diminish that it's kind of racist and alot of people base their fantasy works on Tolkien's works and the format of races from Tolkien without question.

There are quite a few examples, such as Baal becoming Beelzebub, so taking the concept of daemons and twisting it into something evil to keep the believers away from the older religions would be par for the course.

Nuance is good... if not overblown and everywhere.
You can enjoy Tabitha or Marcus since they are an odd element in equation. Especially Tabitha with the general idea of Nightkin being grafted with stealth boys and generally created especially to be a stealth boy users - which in long term proved to be faulty. EC seems to claim it as a bad writing as 'all Nightkin were literally created to eradicate or assimilate humanity and their very nature leads to inevitable schizophrenic mental deficiencies, paranoia and enhanced aggression' - but here lies the problem - NO. Nightkin in F:NV are interesting since we can see multiple ways they deal with their general issues and their ability to potentially (at times) even overcome them in one way or another, despite said issues still being there to haunt them.
Had we been going EC route - then even idea of Super Mutants being bigger, stronger and immune to radiation and illnesses would be already 'lazy idea', despite it being a very reason for their creation and thus enforced general characteristic of species.
Same way orcs, trolls, dragonborn, undead etc - all do have some inherent racial raison d'être as to origin of their creation and evolution. Those are their defining characteristics which make them differ from humans.
There is that weird tendency in newcomers in RPG community to basically make EVERYONE human in a way as any form of general racial distinction is apparently bigoted (no matter that we often speak about fully different species or entities!)
My big problem with EC is that he proposed that instead of one 'lazy idea' he proposed an alternative that is even more of a lazy and flawed idea - which many, many people already pointed out. I would rant for way too long trying to bring all the reasons why but let's sum it up in: no, not everyone just wearing particular uniform or insignia deserves to die by the default, and you have to be a psycho to assume such thing.

Well, to be fair, the koopas are not an evil race: many games throughout the Mario series have shown they can be quite friendly when not in fighting mode. You just fight them because most of the time they are at war with the Mushroom Kingdom.
A better example would be the Shroobs, from Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time. Those are what you would call an evil race, to the point the only word the regular ones ever say is “destroy”. And that’s not a bad thing, especially if it makes for a serious and legitimate threat. In the words of Joshscorcher, “more than deserving to be the darkest Mario moment, for perfectly depicting an absolute evil”.

Elves haven’t solely been the good guys since...well probably D&D. The Orcs haven’t been solely bad guys for a while now as well, however there generally is a bit of a rift between them and other races for various reasons. Demons as the go-to for evil races because that’s generally the case of real world mythology. Appearances are down to perception, so a race can be ugly to us and probably aren’t ugly to themselves.
I’m not sure if this Extra Credit has made me the angriest or if it was the WW2 one, but I’m mad. Sure evil races can be a little lazy in regards to writing, because you don’t have to expand upon the bad guys much when you can just “it’s just what they are”. However they work as a good foundation that can be expanded on, and can give a game/plot a head-start. Frankly if a person equates fictional races to real life, that’s their problem.

Whether they be sexual, emotional, etc. Who's to say other sapient species would have those same leanings and inclinations. White people and black people only differ i the colour of their skin but are otherwise biologically the same, both human. A human and an orc are biologically different and so those biological leanings won't be the same or work i the same ways. And since we have no other sapient species that we know of to compare to there's no reaso to think another *species* couldn't be inclined towards a specific moral alignment.

Stereotypes ARE okay. and more often than not they are at worst, exaggerations of actual truths. stereotype is a useful way to start the process of making choices. because often there are just FAR too many to process and fully calculate one at a time. so using stereotype to filter your options is an incredibly helpful time saving tool. where the problems arise is when your entire thought processes begin and end with exclusively stereotype, utilizing zero other factors. to say stereotypes are "at least partially true most of the time" is not the same as saying "stereotypes are completely true all of the time" and it's that distinction that needs to be addressed. it's a flawed idea that ever using any stereotype for any reason is always wrong. there is nuance even in this.

Extra Credits has this Black and White perspective that specific species or race are evil because for the sake of evil. Even though most Medieval Fantasy themes and story give a lot of depth as to why a specific species are “bad”.
Goblin Slayer: Goblins are portrayed evil by the main-protagonist, but in the first episode we discover that Goblins rape women because there are no female goblins. So they aren’t just harming because “they want to”, but it’s simply because they are biologically programmed to survive whatever means necessary.
BNA: As it’s not really clear, Humans fear beastmen because if they are emotionally unstable they can become dangerous, thus explaining why they want to make a “beastmen vaccine” to literally biologically exterminate beastmen. Sure, it’s literally evil and eugenics text book 101, but their reason behind it is understandable.
Skyrim: Imperials vs Stormcloak, this is by far the most bizarre way to introduce 2 ideologues by making the Stormcloak seem like the good side and the rebellion and the Imperials the fascist tyranny. You never got the chance to understand both sides of their political views at the start of the game, because what reason do you have to listen to the Imperial that almost chopped your head-off? PLUS, when you first enter Solitude, the Imperial Capital of Skyrim, the first thing you witness is the crowed witnessing the executioner chopping off a thief’s head, which gives more reason to NOT join the imperial.

When orcs pillage and burn villages then the villagers might see it as evil, while the orcs won't. In their mind they are doing the good thing by following their code of honor, pleasing their gods, furthering their warlord's goals, etc.. People simply act, only if their actions are looked upon by someone with a differing moral view they can seem "evil".
But really, does anyone here know somebody that actually draws the connection between evil fantasy races and real life peoples? I mean, wtf? The people who want to draw these connections are racist to start with and in all my years of loving LOTR, even before I started to get itnerested into politics and social issues, I never, NEVER, thought to compare these hideous creatures called "orcs" to any group in the real world. These people WANT to see connections. And that is racist.
