  • My garden is being carefully nurtured for 11 years already. Today I am giving you a tour of this very private space where my family loves to spend time together. Our garden has many strong vertical structures and an unusual handmade wattle fence. Plants are fairly mature and developed. Enjoy! I hope you will get some ideas for your own gardens!

    Dear Olga, I loved this video. I'm so glad it popped up on the home page for me. I was absolutely charmed by your attitude and description of your garden. When you spoke about your new pathway (which I need to create somehow) and how you watched your daughter in the morning, my heart nearly burst. How lovely. If I have grandchildren, I hope I can do that too. You also gave me the great Idea of putting sedums in the patio pots. Only today I decided to move them because they are so happy, they are pushing other plant around! And I have a couple of empty pots to fill. I'm looking forward to seeing your flowers in the near future.

    I appreciate that you let us see your garden. I especially like the unique things you have made such as the branches that you used to make a pergola, and the really good idea of making a woven fence of branches. It does fit in with the natural look of the garden. What a really good idea for covering the chain link fence. I think the yew has become really beautiful. I've never seen one in a smaller garden that wasn't trimmed. It's lovely. The little boxwood plants add a nice touch as borders. Love your roses. I'm just getting in to roses. So thank you for your kind tour!

    Absolutely stunning! I love all your greenery. I wish I had more. I'm new to gardening really, so I will enjoy learning from you. I'm also learning about roses as I bought many David Austin roses last year. One of which is the generous gardener. It has 2 main canes only and I cut one by mistake 😳. But the laterals this rose puts out are huge! It's so hard to train on a wall. I think an arch would have been easier, but I will persevere. (even though its too big for me to manage as a beginner haha)

    • @OlgaCarmody
      @OlgaCarmody  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Davena, the Generous Gardener is a big climber with stiff stems. A must is to train those canes young while they are still burgundy. I have my other GG growing on a fence and I just cut everything what is growing in the wrong direction. Plant produces new shoots and if they are right, I keep them. I know it is a tough business to cut fresh new growth away, but this way you can train your stiff climber on the wall.

      @@OlgaCarmody I definitely need to learn for this rose. Its caused me a headache this year haha. I did watch your GG video where you are training it on your fence. It's going ro look fantastic. I can't wait for an update on all your roses next year. X

    I have been gardening for nearly 40 years now and like you love nature. I have been using sticks around my gardens for years. I love making trellises and arbors with them, and also use them to hold up my tall flowers. What zone do you live in? I am zone 4 and would love to have boxwoods, but it is too cold here for many of them. I’ll have to do my research…

      Thank you, Nadia. I did receive 2 Shropshire Lads and planted at th3 front of my house, that’s why you didn’t see it in my back garden tour. Your azalea is just gorgeous! The entire garden is lush and green. You mentioned in the video that it's good to cut back an older rose to give it new energy and life. I wonder what you would think about cutting a climbing rose (that has been very neglected) all the way to the ground next early spring?

    • @OlgaCarmody
      @OlgaCarmody  2 роки тому +1

      Hm, what I would think… You will not kill your rose, but I would choose the youngest, greenest stems (several of them) and leave them. The rest I would cut out. The reason is , you want to enjoy some presence from your rose that season. Since your rose will not need to support all that unproductive wood, it will burst with energy and will give you wonderful blooms. And if you decide to cut your rose all the way to the ground, you will get long green stems which might not flower that season.

    Olga, your garden is so beautiful! I planted my sedums in pots last year after watching your video I have voles they like to snack with their roots. My sedums grew so fast this year became leggy and separated in the middle and i see yours are nice and bushy. I used liquid fertilizer which I should cut back for now. Do you have a secret how to grow sedums in pots, how often you divide them?

    • @OlgaCarmody

    I wanted to ask you does it happened sometimes to your roses is that A button forms but it doesn’t get to open just like if it got burned by the sun. Well that’s what’s happening to my roses a button forms it doesn’t get to open but I move the pedals from the very top little white sort of mosquito kind come out and then it finally gives a chance to open the bloom I am thinking it’s sort of like a fungus because the little white mosquito come out as soon as I move the first layer . Would you know by any chance with those little white things can be and if it’s a fungus and what do you recommend???

    • @OlgaCarmody
      @OlgaCarmody  2 роки тому +1

      There can be several reasons why rose bud doesn’t open. Look into rose botrytis. Also, roses with very full flowers with many petals will refuse to open when they get very wet and dry fast under strong sun. Hope it helps.
