It's incredibly disappointing that SI still hasn't improved that dreadful interface. Every time I have to set up set pieces, it feels like I'm fighting against the game
They've made it worse this year by enlarging the players and making them overlap, covering each other. It was much easier before with the smaller tshirts. I thought it was because I'm on a laptop but I'm pretty sure Zealand is on a larger screen and they still look the same and you can't see what instruction is given on half the team unless you hover.
Yeah, It's the thing when I start at a new team that I absolutely dread and It shouldn't be like that. I mean I don't mind looking for staff and things which might be supposedly the less interesting aspects of the game but yeah the set pieces I just want to get it over with...But I know how important it is too?
No kidding. The amount of shuffling players around I sometimes have to do in order to get them to the right position is ridiculous. Oh you can't put a player there, there's no spot to drop him into! But if I put the player in another spot and pick him up again, suddenly the spot I want to drop him into comes into existence! And when I finally get him where I want, I go to change his instructions and POOF, all of a sudden he's warped to another place entirely!
Great tips, just for FM to bug out and put the players in the wrong places and 1 sub throws every single offensive and defensive routine out of wack and it'll take half an hour to sort, and sometime players will glitch and be 2 in 1 shirt space which has been in the game for some years now.
Zealand wearing my teams kit is a big W. As far as FM set pieces, I wish they introduced the ability to shout instructions to tell your players to mark an opposing team player etc.
Hey Zealeand! I have been following your channel for years now, even though this is my first comment but I really think that the amazing FCPorto shirt that you have on really deserves an highlight, and, as a FCPORTO Fan it really brings some nostalgia on!
A few points from my experience with FM in general and this years version: 1. I cannot believe that SI still sticks with the same set-piece UI for so many years. If they'd ask me "we'll change and improve just one area of the game, which one do you want that to be", I'd say set-pieces. 2. I agree that countering is less effective this year but having players up front during defensive set pieces, especially corners is still VERY useful. Even if the counter does not work it still helps to have players up there who would hold the ball or immediately pressure the opposition who is trying to recycle the ball. This helps the team to get out of the box and prevents the opposition to settle in our box. Also... The AI is still going to try to counter the numbers you have waiting up front with its own players. If you put 1 player up front they will keep 2 at the back. If you put 2 players up there, they would keep 3 at the back. So having players up front who are not useful at defending corners due to low height / jumping reach etc is going to help defensive set pieces by forcing the opposition to send less players into our box. I sometimes even keep 3 guys up front and force the opposition to have 4 guys waiting at the back. Count the set piece taker and the goalkeeper and that only leaves 5 players to attack us which we can defend with 7. Great work, thumbs up Team Z.
Idk about not marking GK, my Dan Burn keeps getting consistent goal from corner, he's the third best scorer of the team so far with 40 apps and 20+ goals lol
There are some systems they should take away so to speak or have a general strategy setting for until they improve them. Set pieces but also training feedback comes to mind. I suspect they main reason they don't is people will say the game has got less interactive but I don't think the way they have them now adds anything.
Hey Z, would love a video on how to react to red cards. My 11v11 tactic seems to get worse when the opponents have a guy sent off. And when we go down to 10 men we get destroyed of course. I tried a lot of adjustments but none seem to work
Whatcha talking about, 10 man is op. I even managed to lose to bayern when they were 2 down, once. But seriously tho, is feels way more erratic this year, if you are going to dominate, or the opposition is going to feels like a coin flip after a red card. That shouldn't be.
If the opp is a man down, play wider and slower, more patient. If you're a man down depends on your team, but generally play faster and defend deeper and more compact. Those are the general guidelines.
I can't score any set pieces this year. Got James Ward Prowes and two strikers with 17 JR minimum and we've scored like one corner in a season. For sure corners were over powered last year but I feel like when you've got the perfect personnel set up for them they should be a lot stronger
Hot Take: FM23 match engine is overall worse than FM22. Sure there are nice things like the the dribbling animations etc but it seems to make much less sense and the set pieces interaction is just full on insane.
I am constantly caught out with no midfielders sitting outside the box, despite there clearly being 2 on my routine. Then, 2 or three attackers break on me and have a 2 on 2 or 3 on 2 where they score or come close. Driving me mental.
A very unfortunate choice with the Lukaku defending free kicks example...Inter lost the Europa League final in 2020 thanks to a very clumsy own goal from Lukaku on a wide indirect free kick....
I literally can't replicate the wide indirect free kick defense cuz the interface won't let me replicate those player positions. God, this is a nightmare
Bit off topic, but how to defend against those cheesy short throw in goals where they do a short throw, pass it back to the taker who crosses the ball to the back post where the unmarked player has all the time in the world to score? It feels like 1/3 goals that i both score and concede are scored like this and it bugs me because that's not a realistic way to reliably score goals.
I have never seen one of my players on the post defending corners do anything useful. Seen them out of position or completely ignore the ball heading straight at them. Because of this I no longer have players on the posts. I have a line of players and my two CBs on mark tall player. Fast guys on edge of box and one up top.
Thanks Z. I like FM, but I don't have the patience to sit & watch all my set pieces & figure out where everyone is actually running. Maybe I would if there was some kind of match engine for training, so I could actually see what's happening like, I dunno, an actual football manager, but this is what we have.
I'm sure everyone would have had it as well when your defender loses a header against a 6ft 5 guy and you think why wasn't my tallest defender picking him up instead? Then you look closer and find they have 2 or 3 players EVEN taller than him! I guess therre's not much you can do but argh!!! lol
Because of this I don’t bother with set pieces anymore. Waste of time I feel. Also free kicks do my head in can always tell when opposition are going to score by position of goalkeeper. SI GET YOUR FINGER OUT!!
It's so annoying that set pieces in this game sucks for so many years now. I want to actually *create* something, i want to be able to give them specific instructions. "you do the fake run, you do the block for that guy, you pass it from far post to the middle" etc. Not this "yeah bro, just kick it where the tall guy is" bullshit...
Hi there Zealand, how about talking of Will still? (Please no cringy memes about his name), he is a FM fanatic and he was an sub 15 coach for Chester when he had 20! Now 10 years later he is Reims coach without License, the club paying 25,000 each Game because of it, its a wonderfull story what he have. About stadistics this season, Oscars García Reims in 10 games had 8 of 30 possible points (Bad stat) with 12 goals (mediocre) but 19 conceaded goals (horrible, only way to won against ir is making more than 2 goals per Game in stats). After Oscar García sacking, Will still takes the command and in other 10 games he Made 18 points of 30 possible (Maybe not perfect or the ideal of 20 but it's a fantastic upgrade in permofance), 10 goals (which is mediocre and worse than before) and only 5 conceaded goals!, that are signs of a fantastic defensive mentality, a wonderfull defense, 5 Conceaded goals in 10 games are the perfect stats for only the best teams!! A fantastic upgrade from 19 to only 5

I like far post corners, Saliba got 11 prem goals in a season, including 4 set piece goals in one match (3 corners one deep free kick)
