I really like how Spirited Away is, at its core, a simple story of a plain girl trying to get her parents back. So many movies nowadays are about extraordinary people taking on massive stakes, so it's nice to sit back and enjoy a simple story every now and then.
I agree. Some movies can just ruin a movie with a lot of potential by getting carried away with the plot. Spirited Away is perfect because you can either choose to get caught up in all of the ancient lore or just enjoy it for what it is.

Sure the story is simple but the lore for example...
It's also a No True Antagonist story since even Yubaba in the end shows definite signs that she is only pretending to dislike Chihiro in order to save face.
Spirited Away is the first Studio Ghibli film I ever saw, and I was very impressed with it. It shows quality work.

Same. There's something so hauntingly beautiful about its message and also sad when you reminisce about the passing of youth. And this song ties up that ending perfectly.

I love Spirited Away's soundtrack. It's so relaxing and always fits the theme and tone of a scene. A masterful adaptation like this one brings back that same feel of the strange and new world!

Thank you. I love Studio Ghibli and the Ghibli films were my first ever contact with anime. I waited just so I could watch Spirited away, Howl's moving castle, Princess Mononoke, Castle in the sky, Totoro and Kikis delivery service every Saturday evening as a child and I will never forget the beauty those films have shown me. They introduced me to anime and they formed my music taste and my strong love for music so much and partly make me what I am today. I can't put in words how thankful I am for Hayao Miyazaki and Joe Hisaishi for creating these beautiful and great works of art. I do not understand people who are saying that Ghibli films aren't as good as most say. Partly they are not wrong because they're probably even better but then again, who would even judge this work of art and why. Anyways, I hope there are some other Ghibli fans here who share my opinion and my love for those films.
I grew up with Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle, as I always watched them in the weekends with my sisters when we were little kids (and still do sometimes now that we've grown up), destroying the DVDs in the process 😂😂. Recently, as I acquired Netflix, I've watched other Ghibli movies I knew about but never had a chance to watch. Princess Mononoke was my absolute favourite (mostly because I love animals and nature in general), but I've enjoyed Porco Rosso, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind and My neighbor Totoro. Their gorgeous drawings and spectacular soundtrack always make me happy.
I first saw this movie when I was 5 and I absolutely fell in love with it (or at least what I saw of it because I would always fall asleep in the middle because it was late at night and I would only remember the pig scene at the beginning and the last bit where Chihiro reunites with her parents). It was the first time I was ever exposed to anime. I could never remember the name of the movie and never got to see the whole thing in its entirety and I eventually sort of forgot about it and my memory of it just pretty much faded into obscurity and just sat there in the back of my head.
Then one day, 12 years later, I was in high school in my Junior year and the teacher is about to play a movie for us. The movie was called Spirited Away. I had never heard of it, but I was curious. Right when we got to the part where Chihiro and her family entering the theme park, in my head, I was like "Why do I feel like I've seen this before?" Each second that went by, everything started feel more familiar as that memory sitting in the back of my head started to quickly make its way to the front. We then get to the part where Chihiro's parents start to smell food and follow the scent and at this point, red flags are going off for me. The second we got to the scene where her parents turn into pigs, everything just instantly clicked. It was at that moment that I realized I was watching that same film I saw 12 years earlier. It was also the first time I actually got to see the film in its entirety and I loved every bit of it.
Since then I've seen it at least 4 times all the way through and even dove more into Studio Ghibli by watching Howl's Moving Castle, Graveyard of the Fireflies, My Neighbor Totoro, Ponyo, Tale of Princess Kaguya, and Princess Mononoke. I also plan on watching Castle in the Sky, Kiki's Delivery Service, and Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind.
i grew up watching them too and i really loved them, i think you should watch naussica of the valley of the wind if you haven't already

@@lasigna0212 Yes, I can totally agree on that. I also just got Netflix like some weeks ago and found out that there are Ghibli movies. I just finished watching Howl's Moving Castle again and it's just as good as I remembered it.

this song gives me such a good vibe, a calm vibe, but it also reminds me of happy moments with people i no longer have today.
I have so many memories tied to ghibli. The moment the green notes started playing I couldn't stop myself from tearing up, I miss when I was little and I watched the movie for the first time. It was such an amazingly well drawn, animated, and musically talented made movie and it still is, as well as all the other ghibli films.
I don't even know what "Spirited Away" is, but this is a banger.

it is not actually a film, but an anime. Quite a cute, "cozy" and a bit of a touching story about a young girl who had to work hard to get her parents back from the realm of spirits. And her parents stuck there in a shape of pigs because they were greedy people.
I guess it worth the time spent on watching. Especially as it is one of Hayao Miyazaki's works (he's a pretty big deal in terms of anime).

The magic of Ghibli movies is pretty much unmatched. I’ve never cried, laughed, gotten frustrated, and learned something from any movies outside of these.

And I watched it last night (cause damn HBO Max was too tempting) and I was getting misty throughout the ENTIRE movie.
