I just used hot water from my kitchen sink with the sprayer nozzle and that blasted the entire jar clean Then I used a soapy-glass tool that people use to wash inside of glasses has a long handle and that did the trick for me

Your method works fine I'm sure ... thanks for the reply and good ideas!. I'm just trying to do it with a very minimal amount water. Although, with my method, you must be very careful and don't over heat the water ... just get it like bath water.

Hi Mary, The only reason I used the microwave with a cup or two of water was to save water / energy, etc. Glad your method works for you.

    Okay...
So, if you're planning on reusing the jar and want the rim to stay intact, you *_must_* make certain that there is no foil still attached to the rim. The foil will overheat in the microwave almost instantly and melt the plastic.
Also, don't pour that oily crap down your kitchen sink drain. That oil will stick in the drainpipes.

You are correct and good point! My intent is just for recycling the jars.

If you choose to use my method to clean out peanut butter (glass and PET) jars, please be extremely careful as shaking the jar with hot water can cause the water to leak out. Don't overheat the the water in the microwave. It just needs warm enough (like your coffee) to dissolve the peanut butter. Disclaimer: I take no responsibility for any injuries caused by using the method outlined in this video.

Yeah. If you exceed 140 degrees, you will begin to warp the plastic. Maybe you don't care if you're just tossing it anyway.
