  • Elements of various projects I have shot here in Japan, for Discovery Channel and others, cut to the iconic music of Gheorghe Zamfir's "The Lonely Shepherd".
Features the amazing Hino Sensei, who teaches martial arts at his own handbuilt dojo in the beautiful mountains of Kumano Prefecture, Japan.
You can read more about Hino Sensei at his website:
    www.hino-budo.com
All footage was shot using the Red One 4K digital cinema camera (both original and Mysterium-X sensor), using Canon EF stills lenses.

An amazing fusion between two cultures. Two Grand Masters, one of the Japanese sword and the other the Romanian pan flute. Congratulations Paul Leeming!

At first I was going to say the music took me out of the film. But I honestly feel that if I hadn't heard it before I wouldn't have had such bias. The cinematography more than made up for the sample music from that action movie. I got into it and enjoyed the visual atmosphere. Great job!

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it. And you are very correct that the piano is not just there for decoration - Hino sensei used to be a jazz musician!

Oh... really ? Fantastic. In fact, i am not truly surprised but i am glad to read this. Wich would mean that, fundamentally, he does not do two different things, althought the applications are different... Wich would suggest that his work as a musician and his work as a martial artist build upon similar principles... Interesting and inspiring. Thank you very much once again. Best regards.

Poetic and inspiring video. You sense a very precise and subtle work. Quite curiously I would tend to think that the piano is not only there to look pretty, that the music is not only there for the atmosphere, . Loosening of the body'stension, total contrôle, rythm, economy of means... I like to think that this master moves as a musician. Thank you for posting.
