Hi! A few questions... First- did you fold the fabric in half before the accordian folding to make it easier because of the size of the fabric? Or is this the beginning technique for accordian folding? I ask because I am trying to use this method for a king-sized bedspread, and I only did the accordian fold without folding in half first. I wonder if it will still come out with a similar pattern, or if I should go back and restart... Second- if it's new, do I still need to prewash the fabric? I just bought the quilt and haven't washed it yet, I thought it would be ok, but now I'm unsure. Third- do you have any tips or ideas on where I could dye my kingsized bedspread? It will definitely not all fit in a 5 gallon container. I'm wondering if I could use one of those large plastic storage bins?
Lovely! I’ve been wanting to dye a larger piece so thanks for this video. I’m looking to add a gathered layer of fabric to make a skirt using an old pair of jeans.
Does anyone know if I can rinse the piece while it's still tied up? I dyed a king sized-quilt so I'm dreading having to untie it and rinse it before washing 😅
Hi yes you can rinse it while tied up still. For such a large piece I would rinse/ wash it multiple times for best results. You might enjoy my indigo tie dye shibori online course- where I go more into detail about everything indigo dyeing.
@OnyxArtStudios thanks for the response!! I ended up untying and doing a rinse cycle in my washing machine which went well, but unfortunately the moment I started washing on hot, I saw the color start to bleed (even with prewashing & washing with Synthrapol)... I will definitely check out your course so I can learn everything I need to know! One last question- is it ok to wash on cool instead next time, do you think that would have prevented the color from bleeding into the white? I had the same issue with an indigo blanket I bought- started out nice and white and then with every wash, the white got more and more blue. Major bummer!
Hi, I use the Jacquard kit quite often. I did some dying a couple of days ago but my Vat lost its green fairly quickly. The colour is still very deep. Is there anything I can do to bring it back?
There is definitely a shelf life of pre reduced indigo. Sometimes I punch up my thiox vats with a little more of each chemical in the respective ratios. I’ve never tried it with hydro. How many days do you usually keep your vats?
