It's really cool that you included Sonic 3D Blast, many people exclude it from the list, despite it not being a "real 3D" game it has 3D movement and 3D models (even if pre-rendered), I think it deserves to be included, not to mention that many of the things in this game served as the basis for Sonic Adventure, such as the homing attack.
I really enjoy Sonic 3D Blast. First played it on Mega Collection for Gamecube back in the day and finally beat it on the actual Genesis last year. Still got to get around to playing through the Saturn version of the game.
I just realized sonic jam and the hedgehog engine 2 have similar lighting styles, the way the colors reflect on sonics skin when the sun hits, specially noticeable in shadiw generations the most Sonic team was always goated at graphics, like games like unleashed and all
Sonic Unleashed had some pretty awesome levels. I wasn't particularly a fan of the Werehog levels though. I never played Spnic 3D Blast until the Sonic Mega Collection came out for the Nintendo GameCube. I also never had a Sega Dreamcast so it was great to see Sonic Adventure get a rerelease on the GameCube. Sonic Generations was great but I haven't played the Sonic X Shadow Generations yet. I also remember Sonic Boom Rise of Lyric. That game was not meant to run on the Nintendo Wii U. And it used CryEngine 3, which was too underpowered for that console. One thing I heard about that game was that the developer studio, Big Red Button Entertainment, was made up of ex-Naughty Dog developers who worked on the Crash Bandicoot, Jak and Daxter, even the Uncharted series.
Sonic X-treme was canceled. I wish it would have released. Sonic Fighters is a spin-off fighting game. I plan to make a separate video that will show the evolution of Sonic racing/fighting/sports/party games.
@weirdface1846 average forces fan👆 Skill issue? Chek what it means dude. Accept that Unleashed is still best looking Sonic game, especially with the best CGI
@ДенисОррлов i said shadow generations, what are you, blind or just stupid? and it really isn't, the 2000's cgi is an old thing shadow generations models are clean as hell
Look up GameHut. He's the developer who did it, it's fascinating, basically a combination of compression and horizontal interrupts to stretch the small video size up to the full screen at a fraction of the memory cost
I understand where you're coming from. I've played and completed both the Wii and Xbox 360 versions of the game, and I actually enjoyed the Wii version just as much. Being that they follow the exact same story and have (almost) all of the exact same locations, I wouldn't personally call them entirely different games. One has exploration in villages, and the level layouts vary. Since this video is supposed to show the evolution of graphics within the series, I felt the HD version was all that needed to be shown since it was the best-looking version of the game.
I could play Blue Sphere for hours lol. Sonic Heoes released in January of 2004 in North America, and all release dates shown here are the North American release dates.
sonic generations and shadow generations both look better lol. even with lost world, the visuals didn't "regress", it just has a different art style. and frontiers only looks worse cuz of pop-in
That generalization can't be made for every single game after Unleashed. Anyways, it was seemingly regressed in Generations so the game could be more stable than Unleashed, a game that was overly ambitious at the time. Colors is a Wii game, so that speaks for itself. Same for Lost World. Frontiers has superior visual fidelity over anything that came before it. What people constantly, constantly get twisted is that Frontiers just lacked style. Unleashed and Frontiers are basically on the extreme opposite ends of the stylization spectrum. Hopefully Frontiers 2 takes inspiration from like SA1 (DC) and Black Knight and then goes beyond.
I just wish we could have seen a full Sonic game with its graphics on the Sega Saturn. I genuinely enjoy seeing the different graphics from each generation, and personally, I would have loved to see a full game like that.
I didn't. This is just his home console evolution of non spin offs such as sports/racing/party games. Sonic Jam is in there bc it does give you a 3d space to run around and explore as an actual 3d Sonic. There are so many Sonic spin offs and handheld games that I decided to save them for separate videos of their own, so this one didn't run for an hour, lol.
When it came out, it was considered 3d. We know nowadays it's not true 3d. The same way we know the original doom games were not true 3d. But with the use of pre-rendered graphics and an isometric view that allows you to explore this 2d plane in a 3d fashion coupled with the fact that it was considered 3d in its time, I believe it deserves to be recognized as where 3d Sonic started.
forgot sonic the fighters sonic x treme sonic r sonic shuffle sonic riders trilogy and sonic dash and sonic dash 2 sonic boom and sonic speed simulator and sonic forces SB
I've actually addressed this in response to a couple of other people who thought the same thing, but I dont mind saying it again. I did not forget any games. I didn't include spin-off titles such as sports/party/racing games. This is the evolution of Sonic games on home console since that's where the series started, and that's obviously where the series focus is/always has been. I plan to make a spin-off evolution video as well. Thank you for watching!

I played sonic 3D the first time in sega mega drive classic on the switch
Special stages SEGA Saturn
I mean they're pre-rendered 3D images, so I think it should be included
I loved that game as a kid.
I was terrible but still.

Man Sonic Generations was my favorite sonic game in terms of gameplay. Story wise I loved '06. I seriously hope they remake that game one day.
have you played project 06?
Yes? The concept of the story was good & introduction of some cool characters. The gameplay sadly wasn't good & buggy.
Games were SO much more colorful back then no wonder my life is so dull as an adult 😰
I used to play Sonic World for hours just to play as 3D Sonic back in the Saturn days

I wish Sonic World was a full game.
It’s the demo to sonic adventure

Sonic X-Treme & Sonic The Fighters was the first 3D game

@@indominus_Bmeh, sonic x green prolly would’ve been the sonic 06 of the 90’s.

How in the hell were they able to create a full 3d intro on a Sega Genesis?
Definitely created on a computer, but it's still mind-blowing that they could even compress it to fit and run on a Sega Genesis at all.
Look up GameHut. He's the developer who did it, it's fascinating, basically a combination of compression and horizontal interrupts to stretch the small video size up to the full screen at a fraction of the memory cost
Sonic adventure have musics from Sonic blast
Windy Valley and Twinkle Park
You missed out Sonic R on the Sega Saturnfrom 1997! First one I ever played... good times 🦔🔵
6:20 I think the game "shadow the hedgehog" was not a lost media. It only exists since 2005
Really good video but im bummed out you left out the PS2/Wii version of Unleashed since it's an entirely different game to the hd version
