Baby flying-fox in care: this is Diego with Jo

- I visited Jo yesterday to see how Diego was going. He's 10 weeks now, and ready to go to a kind of minicreche with another pup his age, next week when he's weaned. The pups are weaned off milk feeds sooner than they would be in the wild, because their mums would continue to be a milk bar for them while the babies grow into juveniles, and until she's pregnant enough with her new baby to need the nutrition for herself and the growing embryo.
In care through creching, we need the babies to be feeding themselves; we replace the nutrition they'd get from their milk feeds high protein powder on their fruit. (sometimes yoghurt works well during the transition).
Once he's weaned he can go into the aviary with the adults and the other juvies his age and a bit older. - Домашні улюбленці та дикі тварини
I kept waiting for Diego to purr - lol. He looked so relaxed, so content. Then he morphed into an octopus! Funny how he's developed this very savvy personality. Thank you for sharing! Jo is adorable for her sense of humor and tenacity 😊
He definitely has a thing for his Mum lol.🖤🇨🇦
What an adorable little character Diego is. I hope he flies through creche and back into the wild for a long and happy life. 🦇💕
“Must make it to face, almost.. lady, STOP! *thumb swipe” stop wrapping me! *swipe* “
he's like, "kinda big for a battie momma but man, can you find a lot of room to hide under her wings!"😆🦇❣
It's nice to see the next generation carers.
He's a smart little ratbag, and absolutely gorgeous.
Diego (with Jo) i am too cute for you... babies
Such an adorable little troublemaker! I have a feeling that this young man will be a clever and successful little man once he's released, between his charm, his intelligence, and his determination. Plus he's just a cutie.
they are absolutely beyond smart, listening to the stories about them, and they are incredibly adorable 💗💕💕💕💕💕💕
I love bat feeties! They're just so cute.
Me too.🖤🇨🇦
Me too! Just something so charming about their feet 💖💕
Diego is so handsome, precious and adorable ❤️🦇❤️
That's a VERY wriggly sky puppy!
🦇😍❤️
Diego going to make lots of new friends soon, if he doesn't crank out on them all. He is going to do great in the wild.
CUTE!!!! SO CUTE! He reminds me of a toddler, the way they eat, ram around afterwards, refuse to take a nap. Then-wham!-they're zonked out.🦇🦇🦇❤❤❤❤
Or a puppy. 💙
Diego has a lick button, he is adorable…and he has his Mum all to himself again. He also has her wrapped around his little thumb. He has clearly decided that HE is the boss. What a precious little Mama’s boy. He will get a big wake-up call when he goes to crèche, but I’m sure he will find his way.🖤🇨🇦
Edit: Jo is a great bat Mum. She says, “you will behave.”, and he does…badly. Perfect.🖤🇨🇦
Yeah that behaving on command worked perfectly not ;-)
@@tinawitte420 He was behaving…just the way HE wanted too lol.🖤🇨🇦
Love love love how y'all care for them
That was darned amusing. 😂 Jo seems like a really sweet lady.
She is
Aaaw little cutie, butter wouldn't melt. He just wanted to curl up on her arm and go nighties ❤❤❤
A smart and spoiled cuddle bat. 😉
Sweet lady. He’s a cutie🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🥰🥰
Omg! I think I just fell in love with little Diego! That face and those eyes are just way too precious!
My female cat Lyric felt inspired to cuddle with me as we watched this!
You were honoured
@@Megabattie, more than you know. It's taken her awhile to warm up to us.
@@BaronessErsatz doubly special then - very honoured.
Thank you for the smiles! A very handsome and polite boy!
What she said about smells is so true among many animals.
Diego is so adorable & humorous to watch, he's definitely developing into a take charge of the situation kind of Lad .. Wishing him the best of luck when he goes to minicreche next week 💞💘💗💘💞
Diego is such a precious little squeaky puff ❤️ So frisky and licky!
I love the look of innocence this baby has too cute
How precious, boys smell like curry and the girls smell like Doritos. Dingo is a character, they all have their own personalities.
That bat was Diego, not Dingo. Jo named them all after footballers or soccer players
7:25 Awwww he's so cute in his mum's arm!
It's nice that he has his own landing stripe. :-)
That was a very sweet video with a very loveable little Diego. I think first-time mum Jo is bringing him up very well indeed. He's a happy, healthy boy. 🙂❤️🦇❤️
That is just too cute!!! Naughty little Diego didn’t want to get measured at all!
Diego wanted to play.
Jo would have wrapped him so he couldn't escape, but she was trying to keep him visible for the video.
She won't make that mistake again
Diego is just adorable. I was living vicariously through you both!
Love all the commentary, they are adorable, it must be hard to keep from picking them up, when they’re alone outside ❣️❣️❣️💓💓
I'm not exactly sure what you mean by that comment; they're only alone outside if they're wild and in need of rescue (and they bite so rescue without vaccination and experience isn't a good idea).
Out in the back on the airer Jo doesn't leave them alone because they could be predated upon by wild birds, so they have to be watched unless they're in a protective cage.
The sweetest thing
I remember Dingo! He was so precious! I have a picture of his sad face when he first turned into what you, Meg, call a "sookie". When you see that face it's like he told you what he was feeling. You did a great job with him, Meg! As you do them all🙂
The Sookie (with the ie) is the apron pouch; I just named them that because they're good for sooky babies when you need your hands for something.
The term is to be a sook, or to be sooky (or sooky la la).
This vid was Diego, but yes Dingo was also a complete sook for a while until he regained his mojo after Tutti Frutti arrived.
Ahh the little battie. You ladies are the bestest!!
Какие же они прелестные создания!!!!
Thank you for this video. Jo you are so gentle with Diego. The little orphan has grown into a confident little battie. Go Diego, live a great long life….❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Q fofura, olha só como ele abraço seu braço
Ah! So lovely! I m happy to see this child is okay ☺️❤️
what a cutie, loving his belly rubs 😀😀
This is the best entertainment ever.
Jo your batties are gorgeous. And being from South America I couldn’t agree more about Diego Armando Maradona😃. Cheers from Silvana from South America
Aw, this is a good start to the day. Thank you both for sharing this with us. 💙
Diego Is so cute ,i Like baby bats cause they are full of Energy, ,Diego Is a Happy batty and loves Jo so much
Well somebody is impossibly adorable 🥰! And named after a world class footballer to boot.
It was hysterical seeing him sticking his wing out from the airer 😂
Diego is such a handsome little laddie.. Lucky boy to have his surrogate mums.
What a cutie pie! I love it when you see the whites of their eyes. 🦇😍🌈❤
That is the best.🖤🇨🇦
He's gorgeous. How can people be afraid of these magnificent creatures? I wish I could smother them with kisses 💋. The pacifier sucking is the absolute best. I love them.
So cute.
Lol he's so funny. You two are doing a wonderful job with these babies.
awwwwwww, what a cutie!!!!
We love you 💐🇧🇷🦇🌻❤
Meg, I loved this video it was relaxed and Diego was an adorable
baby.Thankyou so much!💜🐾❤️
Such a handsome boy 💜
Beautiful babies!😍❤️💛💙🍼Thank you Meg🙏🏻🌟
Jo, you are going to miss this batty baby,,, what a cutie,,,,,wishing Diego a full life,,,,hi from the US !
❤️
I'm jealous!! I wanna take care of a baby flying fox 💛
You could, if you saved for a holiday to Australia and volunteered at the Tolga Bat Hospital. They will provide accommodation (you pay board), and license you.
You need to be vaccinated for rabies before you arrive with evidence of immunity (blood test to show your immunity levels).
Visit the website tolgabathospital.org and look at the volunteer tab.
Do you think the "lick button" is related to the way rabbits chatter their teeth in an quiet "purring" sound when you pet them? Happiness is expressed through "eating" movements?
I don't know, Joseph.
@@Megabattie I guess I've got a little research project.
@@josephwisniewski3673 I guess you have
This is hilarious 😂 love watching this baby
lol on his antics! He's a handful! 😂😂😂 Thanks for the adorable upload!
Aww cutie xx
So sweet 💕
❤️🥰❤️🙋🏻♀️
aw
So jealous of Jo getting to care for and love on this adorable little diva! ❤️ Maybe not so jealous of trying to wrangle him for measuring and weigh-in though! 😂
Jo was trying to do it so you could see him for the video, rather than just wrapping him and wrangling him with all the grabby and pointy bits contained.
She probably won't do that again.
So I now have a full and thoroughly complete understanding of how much a micro bat bite hurts. I got 7 in from a blown down very old barn. One is a voracious eater and decided the very fat pink worm that was delivering the small tan worms, looked so much tastier. I didn't expect any of them to drop down from the hide while I messing with the cage.
OUCH!! He thought you were finger licking good lol
Salutary lesson.
How did the 7 do? Survivors?
🥰🥰🥰🦇🦇🦇absolutely precious!!!
Bellissimo come è dolce Betty complimenti sono degli animali spettacolari ti ha riempito di baci.... ti prego fagli una coccola anche da parte mia... ciao un abbraccio
This was a great video to watch. You two girls are more entertaining then the bat. LOL
Awwwe Diego is adorable...I haven't had time for videos been doing outreach for a while with woman at risk here in Baltimore,Maryland! I'm taking a break... An this popped up... Thanks ladies for all you do. Your very appreciated ladies an grateful for all you do to help the creatures in need of extra love an attention!!
Thanks for sharing your lives with us and the lives of all the wee creatures. ✌🏼💗😊❣️ DK
Welcome back!
Beautifull and adorable 😘🦇😘🦇
How adorable. :)
Diego is not spoiled, not at all 😁. But he's adorable. Is he really Jo's first bat baby? I think she's doing a very good job.
When I was a kid I was also hanging upside down from those metal stands she mentioned.
Yes, she only joined wildlife rescue after the bushfires 2 years ago. She has been doing kangaroo joeys, possums, and birds and stuff and just started doing bats.
Very good!
Diego is so cute 😍 ❤ 💕 💗 💖 💓 😍 ❤
Gotta love those ears, battys are adorbs.🇨🇦🐘🍁🤗🦇
Smell -o- vision would tide me over until I get grandchildren..which according to my kids will be never LOL..Maybe I need to move to Australia to see Liam Hemsworth...I mean bats LOL
Jo doesn't smell baby, because she is with him all the time, but I come into her place and I can smell him immediately. A sweet smell.
Good luck with the Hemsworth plan
I have no idea why micro-bats freak me out but I find macro-bats so friggin' adorable! He's such an adorable boy! If you have an extra banana, I know an adorable little boy who could use a few bites.
We don't feed our babies or juvies banana - their guts aren't quite adapted for it at this stage and they can get bowel obstructions if they aren't adequately hydrated. As the babies wean, they're in charge of their own hydration, so it's not a great idea to give them something which may kill them if they're a bit dry.
I told my granddaughter that I am going to move to Australia so I can rescue bats. That little princess looked me dead in the eye and said “Meme they have really big spiders there”. Ok. My dream is over.
LOL - you don't see venomous spiders often if you live in the city.
People think Australia is full of stuff wanting to kill you. Sure there's lots of dangerous stuff, but it's no worse than anywhere. The US has various venomous snakes, cottonmouths and rattlers, and you have wolves, bears, rabid racoons and squirrels, yet you're not afraid to be in the USA? (I'm assuming you're in the US, sorry for the assumption, if you aren't)
In the cities the worst you're likely to see are huntsmen spiders - hairy legs but totally harmless.
I've seen maybe 5 snakes in the wild in 65 years, and I do go to the country a lot. I've never seen a funnel web spider, though I've seen plenty of red backs in people's sheds, but they don't attack you.
Basically the only real thing to be scared of are Drop Bears, and that's a total joke on the tourists.
@@Megabattie it’s true! I’m in the USA. Oddly I’m not afraid of any the animals you listed. I’m respectful of them, but not afraid. Now spiders…..I’m terrified of even the smallest of those. 😳
@@findingteresa8524 I really don't like spiders with hairy legs; they freak me out.
Awwh Jo is a lovely lady. I like her. Can we have more Jo in the future? We are lacking in the Maggie department recently after all 😊
Maggie is only around during baby season or if I have juvies and need a hand.
Jo will be around and about while she's learning but eventually she'll doing her own thing.
@@Megabattie looks like it's "just you and me kid" 😉🤣
He's such a mama's boy, he's going to have one heck of a fit come next week when he realizes his mum is going to be leaving him for his next journey! Bless him. 💞💕
He'll be fine - he's a wild baby and came in at 5 weeks, so he knows about other bats and life in the wild.
I'm here laughing
Diego😘❤️
I am, I’m the pretty boy!
👏✨💗🖤🦇
/|\(^• •^)/|\ Diego one of life's cutest babies.....🥰💕🦇
magnificent
If there’s anything sweeter than baby bat feeding, I don’t what is.
so glad i found your channel, subscribed immediately
Excellent Harridan; I love new subscribers.
Welcome to Megabattie,
I put information in the descriptions under the videos - so if you have questions, look for the answers there first. I also put the fate of the animal if I know it, in the descriptions. I may put updates there later if I find out what happened to the animal after it has left my care.
There is also a Happy Outcomes playlist if you want to only watch videos where the bat survives; this is a real life channel and you get the good, the bad, the ugly and distressing, and even my oopsies.
You can find further videos on an individual bat by searching in the YT search bar for Megabattie/and the name of the bat you want to follow.
There is a community tab (like a mini Facebook page) on my channel - if you go to Megabattie home page, there is a menu bar across the top under the cover pic. Home, Videos, Playlists, Community, About. If you click on the community tab there are posts there where I can share pix and talk about some of the videos I put up and answer questions.
@@Megabattie thank you for all the information, i shall enjoy looking through it!
i don't see many bats here in new mexico, however when i was young i would hike with a friend up to the top of the mountain overlooking albuquerque where we would sit on a cliff edge and sing the night away and bats would fly around our heads until dawn.
@@harridan. Sounds idyllic
You don't have flying-foxes on the USA mainland, but your Mexican Freetails are amazing.
@@Megabattie i recall that they weren't very big. that was a fun summer. i had a friend who lived 30 miles to the south of that mountain, he lived in a corner of an enormous barn which of course had bats in the rafters, and it used to terrify me when they flew around my head in the daytime because the only rabid bat found in New Mexico last year was in the Manzano Mountains where my friend lived.
i am from Texas where rabies is rampant and if you see a nocturnal animal out in the daytime then it's not well, most likely rabid. mostly skunks where i lived, though it was found in damn near every domestic animal people keep. i am downright phobic about rabies, however bats don't frighten me anymore thanks to people like you who make informative videos, though i have no desire to catch or keep one, they belong in the wild, where they are needed
@@harridan. There is no rabies in Australia in the terrestrial native wildlife, the domestic pet population, or the livestock population, only in the bat population; bats are canopy dwellers.
Watching a zoo program on Animal Planet,I found out a Binturong smells like buttered popcorn.
well there you go...
@@Megabattie I know. I have all these bits of information floating around in my brain but I can't remember what I came into the room for.
@@keldaogg2157 Well buttered popcorn is interesting but what you came into the room for isn't. Your brain recognises this so it drops the boring stuff and concentrates in the interesting stuff.
I like not remembering why I came into the room because my brain takes me on an interesting journey into something totally unexpected as I forget what I was doing and find something more interesting.
Sometimes when you're looking for your keys it's not particularly convenient though
Your his surrogate mum now Jo
😍👍❤️🦇💋💋💋💋💋
What’s Diego smell?
Grey baby smell is like vanilla syrup, musk sticks (a pink candy which tastes like opaque pink lifesavers), and baby powder.
Bratty batty
Is this a monkey or a bat?
Sometimes it's hard to tell.
It's as the title says: a baby flying-fox. Flying-foxes are a kind of fruit bat.

No
No it's Diego - he's a bat
Reza, you can't catch Covid from a bat, only from a human.
It's not the fault of a horseshoe bat in China that humans provided a way for the virus to get into another animal where the virus mutated so it became infective to humans and between humans. It's not the bat's fault that we have global air travel and economically it's bad for the country's economics to be quarantined; it's not the fault of the bat that the governments refused to quarantine before the virus was a pandemic.
This video is of a bat in Australia, a flying-fox. They don't carry CoVid and you can't catch anything from them unless you are bitten or scratched by a bat who has rabies.
All bat carers are vaccinated for rabies.
Welcome to Megabattie, Reza.
