The Peter Capaldi Era has been my personal favourite era of the show, reinvigorating my love for the show after slowly losing my interest towards the end of Matt Smith's era with both Series 6 and 7, as well as helping me at a time when I lost both my grandparents so closely together. Series 8-10 held up on their own thanks to the great characters, the darker edge, more character-based stories, and an arguably more cinematic feel than before and now. But most of all, this was all down to the legendary Peter Capaldi who is my personal favourite Doctor to this day, and I'm still sad that he's gone. I think as time goes on, this era will be looked back on as a misunderstood golden age for the show. Special mention also goes Steven Moffat, who is an underrated talent that has cast excellent Doctors and written so many outstanding stories; from 'Blink' to the 'Silence in the Library' two-parter, 'The Eleventh Hour' to 'Day of the Doctor'. Plus, 'Heaven Sent' is probably my favourite story of the show's history. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed his era as showrunner (despite Series 6 and 7, and 'Hell Bent'). Having met both Capaldi and Moffat at a convention, it was clear that these two are awesome people with kindness in their hearts that cared so much about the show they grew up with. My top 12 Twelfth Doctor stories are: 1. Heaven Sent 2. The Magician's Apprentice/The Witch's Familiar 3. World Enough and Time/The Doctor Falls 4. Twice Upon a Time 5. Face the Raven 6. So glad that extremis got a mention, it's such a brilliant story, unfortunately it gets dragged down by the rest of it's parts but, standalone, it's an absolutely genius episode of doctor who.
The ending speech before regeneration, is what hits it home for me. I struggle with being to serious and so come off rude and uncaring. On the flip side I'm sometimes so silly that the same thing happens. But that monologue actually instilled in me the you don't have to be nice but always be kind and make amends for mistakes. Carried with me forever in life now because an actor and his performance
There are some Doctor Who stories in which the Doctor is interchangeable - any incarnation would have worked just as well. Its very telling that so many stories in this list are _not_ that - they are very specifically 12th stories.
I’m not as big as fan of this era as ik others are but here’s my top 10; 10: the zygon invasion/inversion 9: deep breath 8: oxygen 7:flatline 6: under the lake/before the flood 5: listen 4:mummy on the orient express 3: the doctor falls 2: heaven sent 1:world enough and time
Been meaning to watch the Capaldi series for ages now, but these latest videos of yours have really bumped it up the list. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on these episodes, and everything else you do here.
I like your list. 😀 My 10 favorite Capaldi episodes, from last to first, are... 10) The Zygon Invasion/The Zygon Inversion 9) Twice Upon a Time 8) Thin Ice 7) Flatline 6) The Husbands of River Song 5) The Pilot 4) Deep Breath 3) World Enough & Time/The Doctor Falls 2) Oxygen 1) Heaven Sent
Yess, finally some Dark Water/Death In Heaven appreciation! Its not without its flaws (perhaps the concept is a little too dark for some people when it comes to what people want from Doctor Who, which is valid) but I find it criminally underrated as a whole
Thank you , I have just recently subscribed, so glad i stumbled across the channel, as a long time who fan, since way back as pertwee, I look forward to watching & catching up with all the content
I never liked seasons 8 or 9, save for a few episodes, but season 10 is my favourite since season 4. Capaldi is always the best part of most of the episodes he's in though!
10. Time Heist. We realiseThe Doctor has set it all up, then find he saves his compatriots and is also redeeming the villain. Didn't see that coming. 9. Smile. Keep smiling, keeeep smiling..... 8. Extremis. Loses points for Evil = Ugly, when the set up should dictate the opposite (Axons anyone?). 7. Magicians Apprentice/ Witches Familiar. Very, very funny a lot of the time. Apart from Missy's murders, obviously. 6. Zygon Invasion/Zygon Inversion. Extrapolation of: 'Hatred is always stupid Kindness is always wise' idea. 5. Oxygen. What you said. And making us mourn for bit part characters in the first five minutes. 4. Deep Breath. Fantastic introduction of the latest Doctor, kind despite his self doubt. 3. Twice Upon a Time. Proper goodbyes and a Mission Statement (which should have been taken onboard). 2. Mummy on the Orient Express. More Holmes than Poirot; Doctor risks regeneration to solve the mystery having appeared callous. 1. Heaven Sent/Hell Bent. The first is almost flawless and the second angry and quirky enough to be interesting.
10. The Husbands of River Song 9. The Pilot 8. Flatline 7. Mummy on the Orient Express 6. Under the Lake / Before the Flood 5. Hell Bent 4. Heaven Sent 3. World Enough and Time / The Doctor Falls 2. The Magician's Apprentice / The Witch's Familiar 1. Extremis
After my recent re-watch of series 8 and 9 and my first time watching series 10, Peter Capaldi is quickly becoming one of my favorite Doctors, if not my favorite. I grew up on David Tennant so he has a soft spot in my heart, and he had some great material, but I think I like the material Peter was given just as much. It just took me some time and getting a bit older to appreciate the ways in which it's different (as I'm 24 now compared to being 19 or so when I first watched s8 and 9). I think my favorite episode (two-parter) of his is actually Dark Water/Death in Heaven, because other than just being creative and enjoyable, those episode are like the culmination of the Twelfth Doctor settling into who he is and getting his confidence back after getting shaken up by the regeneration.
For me: 10) The Pilot 09) Oxygen 08) The Husbands of River Song 07) Dark Water/Death in Heaven 06) Listen 05) Twice Upon a Time 04) Extremis 03) The Mummy on the Orient Express 02) World Enough and Time/The Doctor Falls 01) Heaven Sent
1 The mummy on the Orient express 2 World enough and time/ The doctors falls 3 Oxygen 4Thin ice 5After the flood /Before the flood 6 The husbands of River Song 7 Death in heaven 8 Pilot 9 Flatline 10 Time heist
Lovely to see so such love for the era and the character, in the video and in these comments. I think my top 10 would have to be: 10. In the Forest of the Night 9. Listen 8. The Zygon Invasion/The Zygon Inversion 7. Extremis 6. Flatline 5. Oxygen 4. Robot of Sherwood 3. The Magician's Apprentice/The Witch's Familiar 2.World Enough and Time/The Doctor Falls 1. Heaven Sent/Hell Bent
Fantastic video & ranking! My top 10 is as follows: 10. Listen 9. The Zygon Invasion/The Zygon Inversion 8. Dark Water/Death in Heaven 7. The Return of Doctor Mysterio 6. Face the Raven 5. Last Christmas 4. Under the Lake/Before the Flood 3. Heaven Sent 2. Extremis 1. World Enough and Time/The Doctor Falls
Man, as perfect as Heaven Sent is, (and is my absolute favorite episode of Doctor Who period), i was sure it would be your no. 1. But you make a good point as to why World Enough/Doctor Falls is your favorite Capaldi story. But i have to say that the Zygon speech he gave in series 9 is what made Capaldi my favorite, and a high hurdle any future iteration has to clear to be that good.
12th is THE doctor. But Clara fits his character more than Bill in my opinion. And nothing can beat twice upon a time. No big bad, just ending the moffat run in an amazing way
YES! World Enough and Time/The Doctor Falls is number 1! (Then remembers that Vera changes her mind all the time and will probably put Heaven Sent higher next time she does a list)
Great video! My top 10 is: 1. Heaven Sent 2. World Enough and Time/The Doctor Falls 3. Oxygen 4. Under the Lake/Before the Flood 5. Extremis 6. Twice Upon a Time 7. Mummy on the Orient Express 8. Thin Ice 9. The Husbands of River Song 10. Flatline
My favourite Doctor! This is going to be a tough list to make, but here it goes. 10. Into the Dalek 9. Last Christmas 8. Oxygen 7. Face the Raven 6. Under the Lake/Before the Flood 5. Smile 4. World Enough And Time/The Doctor Falls 3. Flatline 2. Extremis 1. Heaven Sent
I think Capaldi is my favourite doctor. Its a close call with McGann, Big Finish has been so good to him. Pertwee was my first Doctor so he is coming up on third.
Definitely appreciate the distinguishing between WEAT/Doctor Falls as a better 12th Doctor episode than Heaven Sent, which is a better episode of Doctor Who. Personally I'd go with this: 1. Heaven Sent (still would rather watch) 2. World Enough and Time/Doctor Falls 3. Mummy on the Orient Express 4. Face the Raven 5. Flatline 6. Under the Lake/Before the Flood 7. Pyramid at the End of the World 8. Magician's Apprentice/Witch's Familiar 9. Zygon Invasion/Inversion 10. The Pilot
I used to think I hated Capaldi’s doctor but after watching & loving all of his episodes with Billie I realized I just didn’t like the stories with Clara & this isn’t a sleight against her. I think she is a wonderful actress I just never felt the magic with her & the doctor the way I felt with Billie
I don't miss the sonic screwdriver though...my heart belongs to the Eccleston-Tennant model. Partly because their names sound so good together...I'd probably buy an Eccleston-Tennant model anything.
What I also loved about Thin Ice is that it explored the "black companion in the past" anxieties WAY better than the Doctor's horrible treatment of Martha in the Shakespeare Code as well as the cartoonish space-racist approach to Ryan in Rosa. Still not perfect but it's really sad just how few actually thoughtful and well-written examples of those we get.
Well, change The Pilot with Deep Breath, and I totally agree with you! The 12th Doctor's era was to me very solid. This far, the best era of modern Who.
My top 10 1 WEAT / TDF 2 heavens sent 3 under the lake / before the flood 4 time heist 5 face the raven 6 mummy on the orient express 7 flatline 8 knock knock 9 thin ice 10 Oxygen
It's a shame my Sonic's busted. Then again, I lost my TARDIS in the local park, but I've been stranded on earth before. This is but a weekend to a time lord. 😎
I thought the Magician's Apprentice/The Witch's Familiar, and the Zygon Invasion/Inversion were exceptional stories. I did enjoy the Pyramid at the End of the World too.

I felt that while Capaldi himself had comedic moments a lot of the episodes went too dark for me. The only Capaldi episode as a whole that I really like is Robots of Sherwood.
Capaldi's first series (8) is his best. I hated the rocket Doctor change, and the switch from rocker to the Dracula coat Doctor was random and stupid in the later series. The hybrid RUINED his second series completely.

I’m not as big as fan of this era as ik others are but here’s my top 10;
10: the zygon invasion/inversion
9: deep breath
8: oxygen
7:flatline
6: under the lake/before the flood
5: listen
4:mummy on the orient express
3: the doctor falls
2: heaven sent
1:world enough and time
Been meaning to watch the Capaldi series for ages now, but these latest videos of yours have really bumped it up the list. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on these episodes, and everything else you do here.
The 12th doctor is my doctor.
Mine too!
The speech in The Doctor Falls is one of the best speech in the series and I use it as a guide on how to live my life.
Peter Capaldi, Tom Baker and Sylvester McCoy will always be my favourite three doctors :) comment on this with your top 3!
Tom Baker-Peter Capaldi (how I feel at the moemnt decides who is 1 and who is 1 LOL, Christopher Eccleston and John Pertwee.
Peter capaldi
Patrick troughton
Matt Smith
Peter Capaldi, Sylvester McCoy, & Patrick Troughton
Now I want to rewatch his era! Great list! He was a great Doctor!
I like your list. 😀
My 10 favorite Capaldi episodes, from last to first, are...
10) The Zygon Invasion/The Zygon Inversion
9) Twice Upon a Time
8) Thin Ice
7) Flatline
6) The Husbands of River Song
5) The Pilot
4) Deep Breath
3) World Enough & Time/The Doctor Falls
2) Oxygen
1) Heaven Sent
Yess, finally some Dark Water/Death In Heaven appreciation! Its not without its flaws (perhaps the concept is a little too dark for some people when it comes to what people want from Doctor Who, which is valid) but I find it criminally underrated as a whole
Thank you , I have just recently subscribed, so glad i stumbled across the channel, as a long time who fan, since way back as pertwee, I look forward to watching & catching up with all the content
I can listen you talk about capaldi all day
I love Capaldi and Clara and their arc in series 8 is my favourite of any doctor/companion evolution.
I have a 12th Doctor tattoo on my left arm. Capaldi is my favorite.
10. The Husbands of River Song
9. The Pilot
8. Flatline
7. Mummy on the Orient Express
6. Under the Lake / Before the Flood
5. Hell Bent
4. Heaven Sent
3. World Enough and Time / The Doctor Falls
2. The Magician's Apprentice / The Witch's Familiar
1. Extremis
To be honest, I liked Dany more than Clara.
And 12 is absolutely my favourite Doctor.
For me:
10) The Pilot
09) Oxygen
08) The Husbands of River Song
07) Dark Water/Death in Heaven
06) Listen
05) Twice Upon a Time
04) Extremis
03) The Mummy on the Orient Express
02) World Enough and Time/The Doctor Falls
01) Heaven Sent
1 The mummy on the Orient express
2 World enough and time/ The doctors falls
3 Oxygen
4Thin ice
5After the flood /Before the flood
6 The husbands of River Song
7 Death in heaven
8 Pilot
9 Flatline
10 Time heist
Lovely to see so such love for the era and the character, in the video and in these comments. I think my top 10 would have to be:
10. In the Forest of the Night
9. Listen
8. The Zygon Invasion/The Zygon Inversion
7. Extremis
6. Flatline
5. Oxygen
4. Robot of Sherwood
3. The Magician's Apprentice/The Witch's Familiar
2.World Enough and Time/The Doctor Falls
1. Heaven Sent/Hell Bent
Really gotta love when an era ends on such an overwhelming high.
Fantastic video & ranking!
My top 10 is as follows:
10. Listen
9. The Zygon Invasion/The Zygon Inversion
8. Dark Water/Death in Heaven
7. The Return of Doctor Mysterio
6. Face the Raven
5. Last Christmas
4. Under the Lake/Before the Flood
3. Heaven Sent
2. Extremis
Keep the Capaldi content coming!!
Great video! My top 10 is:
1. Heaven Sent
2. World Enough and Time/The Doctor Falls
3. Oxygen
4. Under the Lake/Before the Flood
5. Extremis
6. Twice Upon a Time
7. Mummy on the Orient Express
8. Thin Ice
9. The Husbands of River Song
10. Flatline
Such an underrated Doctor! He has some genuinely great episodes. My personal favorite is Heaven Sent.
1 Heaven sent 10/10
2 Doctor Falls 10/10
3 WEAT 9.5
4 TUAT 9.5
5 Face the Raven 9.5
6 Husbands of Riversong 9
7 Extremis 9
8 UTL/BTF 9
9 Oxygen 9
10 MOTOE 9
My favourite Doctor! This is going to be a tough list to make, but here it goes.
10. Into the Dalek
9. Last Christmas
8. Oxygen
7. Face the Raven
6. Under the Lake/Before the Flood
5. Smile
4. World Enough And Time/The Doctor Falls
3. Flatline
2. Extremis
1. Heaven Sent
What is it about enbies and our fascination with ravens? Why are we like this xD
Yeah, Dark Water/Death in Heaven is great.
I think Capaldi is my favourite doctor. Its a close call with McGann, Big Finish has been so good to him. Pertwee was my first Doctor so he is coming up on third.
Love this ranking!
Definitely appreciate the distinguishing between WEAT/Doctor Falls as a better 12th Doctor episode than Heaven Sent, which is a better episode of Doctor Who. Personally I'd go with this:
1. Heaven Sent (still would rather watch)
2. World Enough and Time/Doctor Falls
3. Mummy on the Orient Express
4. Face the Raven
5. Flatline
6. Under the Lake/Before the Flood
7. Pyramid at the End of the World
8. Magician's Apprentice/Witch's Familiar
9. Zygon Invasion/Inversion
10. The Pilot
Not sure if you’ve done it yet. But would love to see a top 10 list for Moffat era episodes (I.e. Smith and Capaldi)
It's all in the sunglasses!
I agree with the number 2 and 1 placements in this video
What? No Kill the Moon or Robot of Sherwood? :P
Wow didn’t expect hell bent to be your number 1!
been waiting for this!!
My top 10
1 WEAT / TDF
2 heavens sent
3 under the lake / before the flood
4 time heist
5 face the raven
6 mummy on the orient express
7 flatline
8 knock knock
9 thin ice
10 Oxygen
Curious what your opinion is on the cyberbrig
We already know Heaven Sent is number 1
Who is gonna tell them... 😨
I don't think I have a Top 10 for the 12th Doctor. My Top 3 though would be Oxygen, The Pilot and The Husbands of River Song.
Well we know what #1 is lol. Also, first, yay. Also, spoilers on season 13 please, season 13 is friggin region locked in australia ffs. By the way, nathaniel i absolute ADORE your new hair
Series 13 isn’t even out yet.
uh season 13 isnt out yet
@@dubbingsync isn't it? Right so any season 12 episodes i should avoid? And watch anyway cause i passionately hate midnight cause its the scariest thing in media and apparently a top 4 new who episode
I havent seen any season 12 episodes. Region locked out. Any of em worth it, besides the timeless child to see if the vitriol is worth it?
@@212mochaman Spyfall, Fugitive of the Judoon, The Haunting of Villa, Timeless Children and Revolution of the Daleks are all needed to understand the story, everything else can be skipped if you can't be bothered.
Yea of course, take your time.
Name of episode: heaven sent
Can't argue with this list
How...HOW isn't twice upon a time and husbands of river song not here...
Don`t we usually get a ranking og the seasons episodes???? 😁❤️
How is Flatline not on this list?

Ok placeholder bc i wanna post MY top 10 but I gotta think about it first!!!
For under the lake, when the death woman went on the ground to check the vibration, why didn’t she just turn around
Because she didn't know it was behind her
@@doctorllama8015 but then why would she check the floor for vibrations if she didn't know it was behind her and if she was just checking incase of something behind her, she should still just look around, it's a lot quicker
@@cyberemperor1435 fair enough. Imo the scene is awesome and I like the vibration check rather than a quick turn around.
@@doctorllama8015 I know ,it is still great but they could of just have the 'ghost' get really close up instead of the vibration check but ur right is is a great scene and it is a great 2 parter.
There’s plenty of reasons the floor could be vibrating, not just that someone is behind her
- an underwater current
- some technology in the base malfunctioning
She checks the floor and I assume she is able to tell that it’s coming from behind her (I can’t remember if she turns around and runs or if Clara saves her)
8:50 Oh you! Flattery will get you nowhere...
RIP Overdue/Take Two Reviews
Top Twelfth Doctor 10 Episodes
I felt that while Capaldi himself had comedic moments a lot of the episodes went too dark for me.
The only Capaldi episode as a whole that I really like is Robots of Sherwood.
Capaldi's first series (8) is his best. I hated the rocket Doctor change, and the switch from rocker to the Dracula coat Doctor was random and stupid in the later series. The hybrid RUINED his second series completely.
If Heaven Sent isn't number 1...
Edit: I thought you would have No.1 and No.2 swapped
I found Heaven Sent to be a tedious, repetitious bore on first viewing. Still do.
I love that episode but it really is a slow burn, I can 100 percent see how people wouldn't get into it
I totally agree, I can't stand that episode. Maybe if it was at 15 minutes thing? LoL Heaven Sent is awful.
Can always do top ten worst
Yeah but... I'm really not in the mood to be negative.
@@CouncilofGeeks ah right. Fairs. How about top ten outfits?
@@roguebritgravy1 I second that thought. A top 10 outfits ranking would be great!
@@maxieprodmoore7822 I third!!
Engage sarcasm mode: You found 10 - Well done you.
Mine would be a little shorter, closer to zero in fact.
