For chocolate cakes, dust the cake pans or ramekins with Cocoa powder. The flour may leave a white residue whilst the Cocoa powder will leave a chocolate residue. 💜🌞🌵

Guys...please do yourselves a favour...don't listen to all those videos claiming to make a perfect lava cake with just 2 teaspoons of water and some air...I tried out a lot of those recipes and everything ended up in disaster.Just when I thought all hope was lost, this video showed up in my recommendations.Followed this recipe to a tee and what resulted was the most delicious, decadent and heavenly tasting lava cake that I've had in my entire life.Congratulations brother, you've earned yourself a new subscriber.

    INGREDIENTS:
1/2 cup butter unsalted
6 oz bittersweet chocolate
2 eggs
2 egg yolks
1/4 cup sugar
1 pinch salt
2 tbs flour
    INSTRUCTIONS:
    * Preheat oven to 450F. Butter and flour your ramekins.
    * Melt the butter with the chocolate on low heat in a double boiler or in the microwave. Whisk until smooth.
    * In a medium bowl, beat the eggs with the egg yolks, sugar and salt until thickened and pale. An electric mixer will work best.
    * Fold the chocolate mixture and flour into the egg mixture. Pour the batter into the ramekins and bake at 450 for 6-8 minutes, it really depends on your oven.
    * Let the cakes cool in the ramekins for a minute, then cover each with an inverted dessert plate. Carefully turn each one over, let stand for 10 seconds and then unmold. Sift powdered sugar on top and garnish with berries if desired. Serve immediately.

Just made this for my wife since it is her favorite desert and it was a huge hit. I actually used a ladle to transfer the chocolate to the ramekins which made it much easier than pouring it from the bowl.

I tried this today as a birthday cake and, it turned out amazing. I melted the chocolate (50% dark and 50% plain milk chocolate with butter and about 2 Tbsp oil) on a double burner, pre-heated the oven, and, baked at 225 degree C for 13 minutes in a 2 lb bread loaf tin, dusted with cocoa powder. I let it rest for about 10 minutes in the tin itself before taking it out and decorating. Decorated with strawberries and icing sugar :) I am someone who doesn’t know baking much and, have only made simple sponge cake before & that too only thrice in my life so far!! It was a hit! Thank you chef!! :)

“ Made out of chocolate dream clouds” OMG, that was hilarious. For melting the chocolate I always use the Julia Child method of just leaving the chocolate with the butter in a sauce pan, cover with its lid and placing that pan in hot water for about 7 minutes. The chocolate will never ever burn. I’ve forgotten and left it in for longer and it is always perfect.

Okay I tried this recipe and it actually turned out good. I didn’t have a lot of chocolate so I added the coco powder and cooked for 6 minute just like in video. I was surprised that it was very liquidy on the inside and tasted great. The trick is to whisk the eggs until they are fluffy. I bet it will taste even better with the melted chocolate.

Wow-Thought I would share this-friends randomly dropped by and I had nothing to serve for dessert-I had only 2 eggs and some yolks in the fridge-ironically from your Swiss buttercream meringue I made for a cake I gave to another friend earlier this week-long story short, despite the following changes-I used my Miele combination steam oven on convection mode at 425, I used a popover tin, I added vanilla extract, I baked 7 minutes, and I dumped these out onto a rimmed baking sheet loosing only one (which I ate!)-these came out perfectly-we had them with ice cream. Neat batter pouring: place your hand under the bowl to catch the dribble. Move to the next ramekin, lick your hand clean, and repeat.

My hints for filling small baking container- use a ice cream scoop instead of pouring from bowl. Or pour the batter into a light, easy to hold large measuring cup or use a smaller one multiply times then pour into ramekins and scrape spout area with a knife. Works for me filling muffins and cupcakes.

When I was in med. school and needed a break from studying, I'd occasionally make a simplified version of this cake. Suddenly everyone seemed to need a break, too, and the cake was gone.

@@claryfray4434 Hopefully that isn't true. If it is, you should rethink your pathway in life.
I really liked med. school. Internship, residency, fellowship and practice were, in many ways, more challenging. I would not encourage anyone to consider a career in medicine or surgery who wasn't strongly motivated and capable of enjoying the process.

I made these for Christmas for my cousin and they turned out pretty good. I just used muffin tins since I didn’t have ramekins and then I made sure to put cocoa powder or flour with the butter in the pan to try to prevent sticking and it sort of worked. I was able to get them all or in one piece although I had to pry them out a little. I think these were great tasting, but since the recipe called for bittersweet chocolate that’s what they end up tasting like so since my family likes chocolate that’s a little sweeter I added the powdered sugar on top and served it with some vanilla ice cream. Otherwise next time I’ll just use semi sweet chocolate instead. Also the baking time is super critical cause I tried to leave them in for a shorter time since I was using a muffin tin and even one minute made the difference between what I imagine would have been a lava cake vs. a fudgy sort of gooey cake. Still delicious never the less. My cousins and I had fun cutting into each of them to see if they oozed. Still super easy recipe and delicious. I definitely recommend making this with whatever chocolate you prefer. Granted adding ice cream sounds good to me either way

Your just the best ever. Funny AND cooks like a pro. I still watch your pumpkin shaped cakes every fall. Secret hint to pouring batter is 1. Use a rubber spatula to direct n control batter or 2. a mix n pour bowl. I have 2 of them...one lame plastic and a 2 spout pyrex bowl... different size pour spouts. Find pyrex at second hand places and yard sales.
